Humillación de Edom

Visión de Abdías.Así dice el Señor DIOS1 acerca de Edoma:Hemos oído un mensaje del SEÑORb,y un mensajero ha sido enviado a las nacionesc, diciendo:Levantaos y alcémonos contra él en batallad.

2 He aquí, te haré pequeño entre las nacionesa;despreciado eres en gran manera.3 La soberbia de tu corazón te ha engañadoa,tú que habitas en las hendiduras de la peña1b,en las alturas de tu morada;que dices en tu corazón:«¿Quién me derribará por tierrac?».4 Aunque te remontesa como el águila,y aunque entre las estrellasb pongas tu nido,de allí te derribaré—declara el SEÑOR.5 Si vinieran a ti ladroneso salteadores de noche1a(¡cómo quedarías arruinado!),¿no robarían hasta que les bastara?2Si vinieran a ti vendimiadores,¿no dejarían rebuscosb?6 ¡Cómo será escudriñado Esaúa,y rebuscados sus tesoros escondidos!7 Hasta la frontera te echarántodos tus aliados1a;te engañarán, te dominaránlos que están en paz contigo;los que comen tu pantenderán emboscada contra tib.(No hay entendimiento en él2c.)8 ¿No destruiré en aquel día—declara el SEÑOR—a los sabios de Edomay el entendimiento del monte de Esaú?9 Entonces tus valientes serán atemorizadosa, oh Temánb,de modo que todo hombre será cortado del monte de Esaú con muerte violentac.
10 Por la violencia contra tu hermano Jacoba,te cubrirá la vergüenza,y serás cortado para siempreb.11 El día que te pusiste a un ladoa,el día en que extraños se llevaban su riqueza,y extranjeros entraban por su puertay sobre Jerusalén echaban suertesb,tú también eras como uno de ellosc.12 No te alegres1 en el día de tu hermano,en el día de su exterminioa;no te alegres de los hijos de Judáben el día de su destrucción;sí, no te jactes2cen el día de su angustia.13 No entres por la puerta de mi puebloen el día de su ruinaa.Sí, no te alegres tú de1 su desgraciaen el día de su ruina;no te apoderes de sus riquezasben el día de su ruina.14 No te apostes en la encrucijadapara exterminar a sus fugitivosa,y no entregues a sus sobrevivientesen el día de su angustia.
Restauración de Israel
15 Porque se acerca el día del SEÑOR sobre todas las nacionesa.Como tú has hecho, te será hechob;tus acciones recaerán sobre tu cabezac.16 Como vosotros bebisteisa en mi santo monteb,así beberán continuamente todas las naciones.Beberán y tragarán1c,y serán como si no hubieran sido.17 Pero en el monte Sión quedará un remanente,y será lugar santoa,y la casa de Jacob volverá a tomar sus posesionesb.18 Entonces la casa de Jacob será un fuegoa,y la casa de José una llama,y rastrojo la casa de Esaú.Los1 quemarán y los2 consumirán,y no quedará sobrevivienteb alguno de la casa de Esaú—porque el SEÑOR ha hablado.19 Entonces los del Neguev1 poseerán el monte de Esaúa,y los de la Sefela2b la llanura de los filisteosc;poseerán también el territorio de Efraín y el territorio de Samariad,y Benjamín poseerá Galaad.20 Y los desterrados de este ejército de los hijos de Israelque están entre los cananeos hasta Sareptaa,y los desterrados de Jerusalén que están en Sefarad,poseerán las ciudades del Neguevb.21 Y subirán libertadoresa al monte Siónpara juzgar al monte de Esaú,y el reino será del SEÑORb.

2 “Behold, I will make you asmall among the nations;You are greatly despised.3 “The aarrogance of your heart has deceived you,You who live in the clefts of 1the brock,In the loftiness of your dwelling place,Who say in your heart,‘cWho will bring me down to earth?’4 “Though you abuild high like the eagle,Though you set your nest among the bstars,From there I will bring you down,” declares the LORD.5 “If athieves came to you,If 1robbers by night—O how you will be ruined!—Would they not steal only 2until they had enough?If grape gatherers came to you,bWould they not leave some gleanings?6 “O how Esau will be aransacked,And his hidden treasures searched out!7 “All the amen 1allied with youWill send you forth to the border,And the men at peace with youWill deceive you and overpower you.They who eat your bbreadWill set an ambush for you.(There is cno understanding 2in him.)8 “Will I not on that day,” declares the LORD,“aDestroy wise men from EdomAnd understanding from the mountain of Esau?9 “Then your amighty men will be dismayed, O bTeman,So that everyone may be ccut off from the mountain of Esau by slaughter.
10 “Because of aviolence to your brother Jacob,1You will be covered with shame,bAnd you will be cut off forever.11 “On the day that you astood aloof,On the day that strangers carried off his wealth,And foreigners entered his gateAnd bcast lots for Jerusalem—cYou too were as one of them.12 “aDo not 1gloat over your brother’s day,The day of his misfortune.And bdo not rejoice over the sons of JudahIn the day of their destruction;Yes, cdo not 2boastIn the day of their distress.13 “Do not enter the gate of My peopleIn the aday of their disaster.Yes, you, do not 1gloat over their calamityIn the day of their disaster.And do not bloot their wealthIn the day of their disaster.14 “Do not astand at the fork of the roadTo cut down their fugitives;And do not imprison their survivorsIn the day of their distress.
The Day of the LORD and the Future
15 “For the aday of the LORD draws near on all the nations.bAs you have done, it will be done to you.Your cdealings will return on your own head.16 “Because just as you adrank on bMy holy mountain,All the nations cwill drink continually.They will drink and 1swallowAnd become as if they had never existed.17 “But on Mount aZion there will be those who escape,And it will be holy.And the house of Jacob will bpossess their possessions.18 “Then the house of Jacob will be a afireAnd the house of Joseph a flame;But the house of Esau will be as stubble.And they will set 1them on fire and consume 2them,So that there will be bno survivor of the house of Esau,”For the LORD has spoken.19 Then those of the 1Negev will apossess the mountain of Esau,And those of the 2Shephelah the bPhilistine plain;Also, cpossess the territory of Ephraim and the territory of Samaria,And Benjamin will possess Gilead.20 And the exiles of this host of the sons of Israel,Who are among the Canaanites as far as aZarephath,And the exiles of Jerusalem who are in SepharadWill possess the bcities of the Negev.21 The adeliverers will ascend Mount ZionTo judge the mountain of Esau,And the bkingdom will be the LORD’S.

2 “Behold Edom, I shall humiliate you and make you asmall among the nations;You are greatly despised. Ezek 353 “The apride and arrogance of your heart have deceived you,You who live in the clefts and lofty security of the brock (Sela) ,Whose dwelling place is high,Who say boastfully in your heart,‘cWho will bring me down to earth?’4 “Though you abuild your nest on high like the eagle,Though you set your nest among the bstars,I will bring you down from there,” says the LORD.5 “If athieves came to you,If robbers by night—How you will be ruined!—Would they not steal only until they had enough?If grape gatherers came to you,bWould they not leave some grapes for gleaning? Jer 49:96 “How Esau (Edom) ashall be ransacked by men who come to ravage with divine approval!How his hidden treasures shall be searched out!7 “All the amen allied with youShall send you on your way to the border;The men who were at peace with youShall deceive you and overpower you;Those who eat your bbread those you trustShall set a hostile ambush for you.(There is cno understanding of it.)8 “Will I not on that day,” says the LORD,“aDestroy the wise men from Edom removing all wisdomAnd understanding from the 1mountain of Esau?9 “And your amighty men shall be dismayed and demoralized, O 1bTeman,So that everyone from the mountain of Esau may be ccut off in the slaughter.
Edom Denounced
10 “Because of the aviolence you did against your brother Jacob,Shame shall cover you completely,bAnd you shall be cut off forever.11 “On the day that Jerusalem was destroyed you astood aloof from your brother Jacob—On the day that strangers took his forces captive and carried off his wealth,And foreigners entered his gatesAnd bcast lots for Jerusalem dividing the city for plunder—cYou too were like one of them collaborating with the enemy. Num 20:18-20; Amos 1:11, 1212 “aDo not gaze and gloat in triumph over your brother’s day,The day when his misfortune came.bDo not rejoice over the sons of JudahIn the day of their destruction;cDo not speak arrogantly jeering and maliciously mockingIn the day of their distress.13 “Do not enter the gate of My peopleIn the aday of their disaster;Yes, you, do not look with delight on their miseryIn the day of their ruin,And do not bloot treasuresIn the day of their ruin.14 “Do not astand at the crossroadTo cut down those of Judah who escaped;And do not hand over to the enemy those of Judah who surviveIn the day of their distress.
The Day of the LORD and the Future
15 “For the judgment aday of the LORD draws near on all the nations.bAs you have done, it shall be done to you in retribution;Your evil cdealings will return on your own head. Ps 137:7-9; Is 2:10-22; Zeph 3:8-20; Zech 12:1-14; Rev 19:11-2116 “Because just as you Edom adrank on bMy holy mountain desecrating it in the revelry of the destroyers,So shall all the nations cdrink continually one by one, of My wrath;Yes, they shall drink and swallow the full measure of punishmentAnd become as though they had never existed. Rev 16:14-1617 “But on Mount aZion in Jerusalem there shall be deliverance for those who escape,And it shall be holy no pagan will defile it;And the house of Jacob shall bpossess their former possessions. Ezek 36; Joel 2:3218 “Then the house of Jacob shall be a afireAnd the house of Joseph a flame in executing God’s wrath;But the house of Esau will be like stubble.They (Jacob) shall set them on fire and consume them (the Edomites) ,So that there shall be bno survivor of the house of Esau,”For the LORD has spoken. Ezek 25:12-1419 Then those of the Negev shall apossess the mountain of Esau,And those of the Shephelah shall possess the bPhilistine plain;Also, they shall cpossess the fields of Ephraim and the fields of Samaria,And Benjamin will possess Gilead across the Jordan River. Amos 9:12; Zeph 2:720 And the exiles of this host of the sons (descendants) of IsraelWho are among the Canaanites as far as aZarephath,And the exiles of Jerusalem who are in 1SepharadShall possess the bcities of the Negev.21 The adeliverers shall go up on Mount ZionTo rule and judge the mountain of Esau,And the bkingdom and the kingship shall be the LORD’S.
