2 Yo os he amado—dice el SEÑOR^a—. Pero vosotros decís: ¿En qué nos has amado? ¿No era Esaú hermano de Jacob?—declara el SEÑOR—. Sin embargo, yo amé a Jacob^b, 3 y aborrecí a Esaú, e hice de sus montes desolación, y di su heredad a los chacales del desierto^a. 4 Aunque Edom dice: Hemos sido destruidos^a, pero volveremos y edificaremos¹ las ruinas^b, el SEÑOR de los ejércitos dice así: Ellos edificarán, pero yo destruiré^c. Y los llamarán territorio impío² y pueblo contra quien el SEÑOR está indignado³ para siempre^d. 5 Vuestros ojos lo verán, y vosotros diréis: Sea engrandecido^1a el SEÑOR más allá de la frontera² de Israel.

6 El hijo honra a su padre^a, y el siervo a su señor. Pues si yo soy padre, ¿dónde está mi honor? Y si yo soy señor, ¿dónde está mi temor^b?—dice el SEÑOR de los ejércitos a vosotros sacerdotes que menospreciáis mi nombre^c—. Pero vosotros decís: «¿En qué hemos menospreciado tu nombre?». 7 Ofreciendo sobre mi altar^a pan inmundo^b. Y vosotros decís: «¿En qué te hemos deshonrado?». En que decís: «La mesa del SEÑOR es despreciable^c». 8 Y cuando presentáis un animal ciego para el sacrificio, ¿no es malo? Y cuando presentáis el cojo y el enfermo^a, ¿no es malo? ¿Por qué no lo ofreces¹ a tu gobernador^b? ¿Se agradaría de ti o te recibiría con benignidad?—dice el SEÑOR de los ejércitos. 9 Ahora pues, ¿no pediréis el favor¹ de Dios, para que se apiade de nosotros^a? Con tal ofrenda de vuestra parte^2b, ¿os recibirá Él con benignidad?—dice el SEÑOR de los ejércitos. 10 ¡Oh, si hubiera entre¹ vosotros quien cerrara las puertas para que no encendierais mi altar en vano! No me complazco en vosotros^a—dice el SEÑOR de los ejércitos—ni de vuestra mano aceptaré ofrenda^2b. 11 Porque desde la salida del sol hasta su puesta, mi nombre será grande entre las naciones^a, y en todo lugar se ofrecerá incienso^b a mi nombre^c, y ofrenda pura de cereal; pues grande será mi nombre entre las naciones^d—dice el SEÑOR de los ejércitos^e. 12 Pero vosotros lo profanáis, cuando decís: «La mesa del Señor es inmunda, y su fruto, su alimento despreciable^a». 13 También decís: «¡Ay, qué fastidio^1a!». Y con indiferencia lo despreciáis^b—dice el SEÑOR de los ejércitos^c—y traéis lo robado, o cojo, o enfermo; así traéis la ofrenda². ¿Aceptaré eso de vuestra mano?—dice el SEÑOR^d. 14 ¡Maldito sea el engañador^a que tiene un macho en su rebaño, y lo promete^b, pero sacrifica un animal dañado al Señor! Porque yo soy el Gran Rey^c—dice el SEÑOR de los ejércitos—y mi nombre es temido¹ entre las naciones^d.

2 “I have ^aloved you,” says the LORD. But you say, “How have You loved us?” “Was not Esau Jacob’s brother?” declares the LORD. “Yet I ^bhave loved Jacob; 3 but I have hated Esau, and I have ^amade his mountains a desolation and appointed his inheritance for the jackals of the wilderness.” 4 Though Edom says, “We have been ^abeaten down, but we will ^1breturn and build up the ruins”; thus says the LORD of hosts, “They may ^cbuild, but I will tear down; and men will call them the ²wicked territory, and the people ³toward whom the LORD is indignant ^dforever.” 5 Your eyes will see this and you will say, “^aThe LORD ¹be magnified beyond the ²border of Israel!”

6 “‘A son ^ahonors his father, and a servant his master. Then if I am a ^bfather, where is My honor? And if I am a master, where is My ¹respect?’ says the LORD of hosts to you, O ^cpriests who despise My name. But you say, ‘How have we despised Your name?’ 7 You are presenting ^adefiled ^1bfood upon My altar. But you say, ‘How have we defiled You?’ In that you say, ‘The ^ctable of the LORD is to be despised.’ 8 But when you present the ^ablind for sacrifice, is it not evil? And when you present the lame and sick, is it not evil? ¹Why not offer it to your ^bgovernor? Would he be pleased with you? Or would he receive you kindly?” says the LORD of hosts. 9 “But now ¹will you not ^aentreat God’s favor, that He may be gracious to us? ²With such an offering on your part, will He ^breceive any of you kindly?” says the LORD of hosts. 10 “Oh that there were one among you who would ^ashut the ¹gates, that you might not uselessly kindle fire on My altar! I am not pleased with you,” says the LORD of hosts, “^bnor will I accept an offering from ²you. 11 For from the ^arising of the sun even to its setting, ^bMy name will be ^cgreat among the nations, and in every place ^dincense is going to be offered to My name, and a grain offering that is pure; for My name will be ^egreat among the nations,” says the LORD of hosts. 12 “But you are ^aprofaning it, in that you say, ‘The table of the Lord is defiled, and as for its fruit, its food is to be despised.’ 13 You also say, ‘¹My, how ^atiresome it is!’ And you disdainfully sniff at it,” says the LORD of hosts, “and you bring what was taken by ^brobbery and what is ^clame or sick; so you bring the offering! Should I ^dreceive that from your hand?” says the LORD. 14 “But cursed be the ^aswindler who has a male in his flock and vows it, but sacrifices a ^bblemished animal to the Lord, for I am a great ^cKing,” says the LORD of hosts, “and My name is ^1dfeared among the ²nations.”

But you say, ‘How have we defiled You?’ By thinking that the ^ctable of the LORD is contemptible and may be despised. 8 When you priests present the ^1ablind animals for sacrifice, is it not evil? And when you present the lame and the sick, is it not evil? Offer such a thing as a blind or lame or sick animal to your ^bgovernor as a gift or as payment for your taxes. Would he be pleased with you? Or would he receive you graciously?” says the LORD of hosts. 9 “But now will you not ^aentreat God’s favor, that He may be gracious to us? With such an offering from your hand as an imperfect animal for sacrifice, will He ^bshow favor to any of you?” says the LORD of hosts. 10 “Oh, that there were even one among you whose duty it is to minister to Me who would ^ashut the gates, so that you would not kindle fire on My altar uselessly with an empty, worthless pretense! I am not pleased with you,” says the LORD of hosts, “^bnor will I accept an offering from your hand. 11 For ¹from the ^arising of the sun, even to its setting, ^bMy name shall be ^cgreat among the nations. In every place ^dincense is going to be offered to My name, and a grain offering that is pure; for My name shall be ^egreat among the nations,” says the LORD of hosts. 12 “But you priests ^aprofane it when you say, ‘The table of the Lord is defiled, and as for its fruit, its food is to be despised.’ 13 You also say, ‘^aHow tiresome this is!’ And you disdainfully sniff at it,” says the LORD of hosts, “and you bring what was taken by ^brobbery, and the ^clame or the sick animals; this you bring as an offering! Should I ^dreceive it with pleasure from your hand?” says the LORD. For I am a great ^cKing,” says the LORD of hosts, “and My name is to be reverently and greatly ^dfeared among the nations.”
