^aSe acercaba la fiesta de los panes sin levadura¹, llamada la Pascua^b. 2 Y los principales sacerdotes y los escribas buscaban cómo dar muerte a Jesús^1a, pues temían al pueblo.

3 ^aEntonces Satanás entró en Judas, llamado Iscariote^b, que pertenecía al¹ número de los doce; 4 y él fue y discutió con los principales sacerdotes y con los oficiales^a sobre cómo se lo entregaría. 5 Ellos se alegraron y convinieron en darle dinero. 6 Él aceptó, y buscaba una oportunidad para entregarle, sin hacer un escándalo¹.

7 ^aLlegó el día de la fiesta de los panes sin levadura¹ en que debía sacrificarse el cordero de la Pascua^b. 8 Entonces Jesús envió a Pedro y a Juan^a, diciendo: Id y preparad la Pascua para nosotros, para que la comamos. 9 Ellos le dijeron: ¿Dónde deseas que la preparemos? 10 Y Él les respondió: He aquí, al entrar en la ciudad, os saldrá al encuentro un hombre que lleva un cántaro de agua; seguidle a la casa donde entre. 11 Y diréis al dueño de la casa: «El Maestro te dice: “¿Dónde está la habitación, en la cual pueda comer la Pascua con mis discípulos?”». 12 Entonces él os mostrará un gran aposento alto, dispuesto; preparadla allí. 13 Entonces ellos fueron y encontraron todo tal como Él les había dicho; y prepararon la Pascua.

14 Cuando llegó la hora, se sentó¹ a la mesa, y con Él los apóstoles^a, 15 y les dijo: Intensamente he deseado comer esta Pascua con vosotros antes de padecer; 16 porque os digo que nunca más volveré a comerla hasta que se cumpla en el reino de Dios^a. 17 ^aY habiendo tomado una copa, después de haber dado gracias, dijo: Tomad esto y repartidlo entre vosotros^b; 18 porque os digo que de ahora en adelante no beberé del fruto de la vid, hasta que venga el reino de Dios^a. 19 Y habiendo tomado pan, después de haber dado gracias, lo partió^a, y les dio, diciendo: Esto es mi cuerpo que por vosotros es dado; haced esto en memoria de mí. 20 De la misma manera tomó la copa después de haber cenado, diciendo: Esta copa es el nuevo pacto^a en mi sangre^b, que es derramada por vosotros. 21 ^aMas he aquí, la mano del que me entrega está conmigo en la mesa. 22 Porque en verdad, el Hijo del Hombre va según se ha determinado^a, pero ¡ay de aquel hombre por quien Él es entregado! 23 Entonces ellos comenzaron a discutir entre sí quién de ellos sería el que iba a hacer esto.

24 Se suscitó también entre ellos un altercado, sobre cuál de ellos debería ser considerado como el mayor^a. 25 ^aY Jesús les dijo: Los reyes de los gentiles se enseñorean de ellos; y los que tienen autoridad sobre ellos son llamados bienhechores. 26 Pero no es así con vosotros; antes, el mayor entre vosotros hágase como el menor^1a, y el que dirige como el que sirve^b. 27 Porque, ¿cuál es mayor, el que se sienta¹ a la mesa, o el que sirve^a? ¿No lo es el que se sienta² a la mesa? Sin embargo, entre vosotros yo soy como el que sirve^b. 28 Vosotros sois los que habéis permanecido conmigo en mis pruebas^a; 29 y así como mi Padre me ha otorgado un reino^a, yo os otorgo 30 que comáis^a y bebáis a mi mesa en mi reino^b; y os sentaréis en tronos juzgando a las doce tribus de Israel^c.

31 Simón, Simón, mira que Satanás os ha reclamado^a para zarandearos^b como a trigo; 32 pero yo he rogado por ti^a para que tu fe no falle; y tú, una vez que hayas regresado, fortalece a tus hermanos^b. 33 ^aY Pedro le dijo: Señor, estoy dispuesto a ir contigo tanto a la cárcel como a la muerte. 34 Pero Jesús le dijo: Te digo, Pedro, que el gallo no cantará hoy hasta que tú hayas negado tres veces que me conoces.

35 Y les dijo: Cuando os envié sin bolsa, ni alforja, ni sandalias^a, ¿acaso os faltó algo? Y ellos contestaron: No, nada. 36 Entonces les dijo: Pero ahora, el que tenga una bolsa, que la lleve consigo, de la misma manera también una alforja, y el que no tenga espada, venda su manto y compre una. 37 Porque os digo que es necesario que en mí se cumpla esto que está escrito: «Y CON LOS TRANSGRESORES FUE CONTADO^a»; pues ciertamente, lo que se refiere^b a mí, tiene su cumplimiento. 38 Y ellos dijeron: Señor, mira, aquí hay dos espadas^a. Y Él les dijo: Es suficiente.

39 Y saliendo, se encaminó, como de costumbre^a, hacia el monte de los Olivos^b; y los discípulos también le siguieron. 40 ^aCuando llegó al lugar, les dijo: Orad para que no entréis en tentación^b. 41 Y se apartó de ellos como a un tiro de piedra, y poniéndose de rodillas^a, oraba, 42 diciendo: Padre, si es tu voluntad, aparta de mí esta copa^a; pero no se haga mi voluntad, sino la tuya^b. 43 ¹Entonces se le apareció un ángel del cielo, fortaleciéndole^a. 44 Y estando en agonía, oraba con mucho fervor^a; y su sudor se volvió como gruesas gotas de sangre, que caían sobre la tierra. 45 Cuando se levantó de orar, fue a los discípulos y los halló dormidos a causa de la tristeza, 46 y les dijo: ¿Por qué dormís? Levantaos y orad para que no entréis en tentación^a.

47 ^aMientras todavía estaba Él hablando, he aquí, llegó una multitud, y el que se llamaba Judas, uno de los doce, iba delante de ellos, y se acercó a Jesús para besarle. 48 Pero Jesús le dijo: Judas, ¿con un beso entregas al Hijo del Hombre? 49 Y cuando los que rodeaban a Jesús¹ vieron lo que iba a suceder, dijeron: Señor, ¿heriremos a espada^a? 50 Y uno de ellos hirió al siervo del sumo sacerdote y le cortó¹ la oreja derecha. 51 Respondiendo Jesús, dijo: ¡Deteneos! Basta de esto. Y¹ tocando la oreja al siervo, lo sanó. 52 Entonces Jesús dijo a los principales sacerdotes, a los oficiales del templo^a y a los ancianos que habían venido contra Él: ¿Habéis salido con espadas y garrotes como contra un ladrón^b? 53 Cuando estaba con vosotros cada día en el templo, no me echasteis mano; pero esta hora y el poder de las tinieblas son vuestros¹.

54 Habiéndole arrestado, se lo llevaron y le condujeron a la casa del sumo sacerdote^a; mas Pedro le seguía de lejos^b. 55 ^aDespués de encender ellos una hoguera en medio del patio, y de sentarse juntos, Pedro se sentó entre ellos^b. 56 Y una sirvienta, al verlo sentado junto a la lumbre, fijándose en él detenidamente, dijo: Tambiéneste estaba con Él. 57 Pero él lo negó, diciendo: Mujer, yo no le conozco. 58 Un poco después, otro al verlo, dijo: ¡Tú también eres uno de ellos^a! Pero Pedro dijo: ¡Hombre, no es cierto¹! 59 Pasada como una hora, otro insistía, diciendo: Ciertamenteeste también estaba con Él, pues él también es galileo^a. 60 Pero Pedro dijo: Hombre, yo no sé de qué hablas. Y al instante, estando él todavía hablando, cantó un gallo. 61 Entonces el Señor^a se volvió y miró a Pedro. Y recordó Pedro la palabra del Señor, cómo le había dicho: Antes que el gallo cante hoy, me negarás tres veces^b. 62 Y saliendo fuera, lloró amargamente.

63 Los hombres que tenían a Jesús¹ bajo custodia, se burlaban de Él y le golpeaban^a; 64 y vendándole los ojos, le preguntaban, diciendo: Adivina¹, ¿quién es el que te ha golpeado^a? 65 También decían muchas otras cosas contra Él, blasfemando^a.

66 Cuando se hizo de día, se reunió el concilio de los ancianos^1a del pueblo, tanto los principales sacerdotes como los escribas, y llevaron a Jesús^2b ante su concilio^3c, diciendo: 67 Si tú eres el Cristo^1a, dínoslo. Pero Él les dijo: Si os lo digo, no creeréis; 68 y si os pregunto, no responderéis. 69 Pero de ahora en adelante, EL HIJO DEL HOMBRE ESTARÁ SENTADO A LA DIESTRA del poder DE DIOS^a. 70 Dijeron todos: Entonces, ¿tú eres el Hijo de Dios^a? Y Él les respondió: Vosotros decís que yo soy^b. 71 Y ellos dijeron: ¿Qué necesidad tenemos ya de testimonio? Pues nosotros mismos lo hemos oído de su propia boca.

^aNow the Feast of Unleavened Bread, which is called the ^bPassover, was approaching. 2 The chief priests and the scribes ^awere seeking how they might put Him to death; for they were afraid of the people.

3 ^aAnd ^bSatan entered into Judas who was called Iscariot, ¹belonging to the number of the twelve. 4 And he went away and discussed with the chief priests and ^aofficers how he might betray Him to them. 5 They were glad and agreed to give him money. 6 So he consented, and began seeking a good opportunity to betray Him to them ¹apart from the crowd.

7 ^aThen came the first day of Unleavened Bread on which ^bthe Passover lamb had to be sacrificed. 8 And Jesus sent ^aPeter and John, saying, “Go and prepare the Passover for us, so that we may eat it.” 9 They said to Him, “Where do You want us to prepare it?” 10 And He said to them, “When you have entered the city, a man will meet you carrying a pitcher of water; follow him into the house that he enters. 11 And you shall say to the owner of the house, ‘The Teacher says to you, “Where is the guest room in which I may eat the Passover with My disciples?”’ 12 And he will show you a large, furnished upper room; prepare it there.” 13 And they left and found everything just as He had told them; and they prepared the Passover.

14 ^aWhen the hour had come, He reclined at the table, and ^bthe apostles with Him. 15 And He said to them, “I have earnestly desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer; 16 for I say to you, I shall never again eat it ^auntil it is fulfilled in the kingdom of God.” 17 ^aAnd when He had taken a cup and ^bgiven thanks, He said, “Take this and share it among yourselves; 18 for ^aI say to you, I will not drink of the fruit of the vine from now on until the kingdom of God comes.” 19 And when He had taken some bread and ^agiven thanks, He broke it and gave it to them, saying, “This is My body which is given for you; do this in remembrance of Me.” 20 And in the same way He took the cup after they had eaten, saying, “This cup which is ^apoured out for you is the ^bnew covenant in My blood. 21 ^aBut behold, the hand of the one betraying Me is with ¹Mine on the table. 22 For indeed, the Son of Man is going ^aas it has been determined; but woe to that man by whom He is betrayed!” 23 And they began to discuss among themselves which one of them it might be who was going to do this thing.

24 And there arose also ^aa dispute among them as to which one of them was regarded to be greatest. 25 ^aAnd He said to them, “The kings of the Gentiles lord it over them; and those who have authority over them are called ‘Benefactors.’ 26 But it is not this way with you, ^abut the one who is the greatest among you must become like ^bthe youngest, and the leader like the servant. 27 For ^awho is greater, the one who reclines at the table or the one who serves? Is it not the one who reclines at the table? But ^bI am among you as the one who serves.

28 “You are those who have stood by Me in My ^atrials; 29 and just as My Father has granted Me a ^akingdom, I grant you 30 that you may ^aeat and drink at My table in My ^bkingdom, and ^cyou will sit on thrones judging the twelve tribes of Israel.

31 “Simon, Simon, behold, ^aSatan has ¹demanded permission to ^bsift you like wheat; 32 but I ^ahave prayed for you, that your faith may not fail; and you, when once you have turned again, ^bstrengthen your brothers.” 33 ^aBut he said to Him, “Lord, with You I am ready to go both to prison and to death!” 34 And He said, “I say to you, Peter, the rooster will not crow today until you have denied three times that you know Me.”

35 And He said to them, “^aWhen I sent you out without money belt and bag and sandals, you did not lack anything, did you?” They said, “No, nothing.” 36 And He said to them, “But now, ¹whoever has a money belt is to take it along, likewise also a bag, and ²whoever has no sword is to sell his ³coat and buy one. 37 For I tell you that this which is written must be fulfilled in Me, ‘^aAND HE WAS NUMBERED WITH TRANSGRESSORS’; for ^bthat which refers to Me has its ¹fulfillment.” 38 They said, “Lord, look, here are two ^aswords.” And He said to them, “It is enough.”

39 ^aAnd He came out and proceeded ^bas was His custom to ^cthe Mount of Olives; and the disciples also followed Him. 40 ^aWhen He arrived at the place, He said to them, “^bPray that you may not enter into temptation.” 41 And He withdrew from them about a stone’s throw, and He ^aknelt down and began to pray, 42 saying, “Father, if You are willing, remove this ^acup from Me; ^byet not My will, but Yours be done.” 43 ¹Now an ^aangel from heaven appeared to Him, strengthening Him. 44 And ^abeing in agony He was praying very fervently; and His sweat became like drops of blood, falling down upon the ground. 45 When He rose from prayer, He came to the disciples and found them sleeping from sorrow, 46 and said to them, “Why are you sleeping? Get up and ^apray that you may not enter into temptation.”

47 ^aWhile He was still speaking, behold, a crowd came, and the one called Judas, one of the twelve, was preceding them; and he approached Jesus to kiss Him. 48 But Jesus said to him, “Judas, are you betraying the Son of Man with a kiss?” 49 When those who were around Him saw what was going to happen, they said, “Lord, shall we strike with the ^asword?” 50 And one of them struck the slave of the high priest and cut off his right ear. 51 But Jesus answered and said, “¹Stop! No more of this.” And He touched his ear and healed him. 52 Then Jesus said to the chief priests and ^aofficers of the temple and elders who had come against Him, “Have you come out with swords and clubs ^bas you would against a robber? 53 While I was with you daily in the temple, you did not lay hands on Me; but ¹this hour and the power of darkness are yours.”

54 ^aHaving arrested Him, they led Him away and brought Him to the house of the high priest; but ^bPeter was following at a distance. 55 ^aAfter they had kindled a fire in the middle of ^bthe courtyard and had sat down together, Peter was sitting among them. 56 And a servant-girl, seeing him as he sat in the firelight and looking intently at him, said, “This man was with Him too.” 57 But he denied it, saying, “Woman, I do not know Him.” 58 A little later, ^aanother saw him and said, “You are one of them too!” But Peter said, “Man, I am not!” 59 After about an hour had passed, another man began to insist, saying, “Certainly this man also was with Him, ^afor he is a Galilean too.” 60 But Peter said, “Man, I do not know what you are talking about.” Immediately, while he was still speaking, a rooster crowed. 61 ^aThe Lord turned and looked at Peter. And Peter remembered the word of the Lord, how He had told him, “^bBefore a rooster crows today, you will deny Me three times.” 62 And he went out and wept bitterly.

63 ^aNow the men who were holding ¹Jesus in custody were mocking Him and beating Him, 64 and they blindfolded Him and were asking Him, saying, “^aProphesy, who is the one who hit You?” 65 And they were saying many other things against Him, ^ablaspheming.

66 ^aWhen it was day, ^bthe ¹Council of elders of the people assembled, both chief priests and scribes, and they led Him away to their ^ccouncil chamber, saying, 67 “^aIf You are the ¹Christ, tell us.” But He said to them, “If I tell you, you will not believe; 68 and if I ask a question, you will not answer. 69 ^aBut from now on ^bTHE SON OF MAN WILL BE SEATED AT THE RIGHT HAND of the power OF GOD.” 70 And they all said, “Are You ^athe Son of God, then?” And He said to them, “^1bYes, I am.” 71 Then they said, “What further need do we have of testimony? For we have heard it ourselves from His own mouth.”

^aNow the Festival of Unleavened Bread, which is called the ^bPassover, was approaching. Lev 23:4, 5; Ezek 45:21; Matt 26:2-5; Mark 14:1, 2 2 The chief priests and the scribes ^awere looking for a way to put Him to death; for they were afraid of the people who listened devotedly to His teaching, and who respected His spiritual wisdom.

3 ^aThen ^bSatan entered Judas, the one called Iscariot, who was one of the twelve disciples. 4 And he went away and discussed with the chief priests and ^aofficers how he might betray Him and hand Him over to them. 5 They were delighted and agreed with him to give him money. 6 So he consented, and began looking for a good opportunity to betray Jesus to them at a time when He was separated from the crowd because the people might riot or stop them from seizing Him.

7 ^aThen came the preparation day of ¹Unleavened Bread on which ^bthe Passover lamb had to be sacrificed. Ex 12:18-20; Deut 16:5-8; Matt 26:17-19; Mark 14:12-16 8 So Jesus sent ^aPeter and John, saying, “Go and prepare the Passover meal for us, so that we may eat it.” 9 They asked Him, “Where do You want us to prepare it?” 10 He replied, “When you have entered the city, a ¹man carrying an earthen jar of water will meet you; follow him into the house that he enters. 11 And say to the owner of the house, ‘The Teacher asks, “Where is the guest room in which I may eat the Passover with My disciples?”’ 12 Then he will show you a large upstairs room, furnished with carpets and dining couches; prepare the meal there.” 13 They left and found it just as He had told them; and they prepared the Passover.

14 ^aWhen the hour for the meal had come, Jesus reclined at the table, and ^bthe apostles with Him. 15 He said to them, “I have earnestly wanted to eat this Passover with you before I suffer; 16 for I say to you, I will not eat it again ^auntil it is fulfilled in the kingdom of God.” 17 ^aAnd when He had taken a cup and ^1bgiven thanks, He said, “Take this and share it among yourselves; Matt 26:26-29; Mark 14:22-25; 1+@Cor 11:23-25 18 for ^aI say to you, I will not drink of the fruit of the vine from now on until the kingdom of God comes.” 19 And when He had taken bread and ^agiven thanks, He broke it and gave it to them, saying, “This is My body which is given for you; do this in remembrance of Me.” 20 And in the same way He took the cup after they had eaten, saying, “This cup, which is ^apoured out for you, is the ^bnew covenant ratified in My blood. 21 ^aBut listen, the hand of the one betraying Me is with Mine on the table. Ps 41:9 22 For indeed, the Son of Man is going ^aas it has been determined; but woe (judgment is coming) to that man by whom He is betrayed and handed over!” 23 And they began to discuss among themselves which one of them it might be who was going to do this.

24 Now ^aa dispute also arose among them as to which of them was regarded to be the greatest. 25 ^aJesus said to them, “The kings of the Gentiles have absolute power and lord it over them; and those in authority over them are called ‘Benefactors.’ Matt 20:25-28; Mark 10:42-45 26 But it is not to be this way with you; on the contrary, ^athe one who is the greatest among you must become like ^bthe youngest and least privileged, and the one who is the leader, like the servant. 27 For ^awho is the greater, the one who reclines at the table or the one who serves? Is it not the one who reclines at the table? But ^bI am among you as the one who serves.

28 “You are those who have remained and have stood by Me in My ^atrials; 29 and just as My Father has granted Me a ^akingdom, I grant you the privilege 30 that you may ^aeat and drink at My table in My ^bkingdom, and you will ^csit on thrones judging the twelve tribes of Israel.

31 “Simon, Simon (Peter) , listen! ^aSatan has demanded permission to ^bsift all of you like grain; Job 1:6-12; Amos 9:9 32 but I ^ahave prayed especially for you Peter, that your faith and confidence in Me may not fail; and you, once you have turned back again to Me, ^bstrengthen and support your brothers in the faith.” 33 ^aAnd Peter said to Him, “Lord, I am ready to go with You both to prison and to death!” Matt 26:33-35; Mark 14:29-31; John 13:37, 38 34 Jesus said, “I say to you, Peter, before the rooster crows today, you will utterly deny three times that you know Me.”

35 And He said to them, “^aWhen I sent you out without a money belt and provision bag and extra sandals, did you lack anything?” They answered, “Nothing.” 36 Then He said to them, “But now, he who has a money belt is to take it along, and also his provision bag, and he who has no sword is to sell his coat and buy one. 37 For I tell you that this Scripture which is written must be completed and fulfilled in Me: ‘^aAND HE WAS COUNTED WITH THE CRIMINALS’; for ^bthat which refers to Me has its fulfillment and is settled.” Is 53:12 38 They said, “Lord, look, here are two ^aswords.” And He said to them, “It is enough.”

39 ^aAnd He came out and went, ^bas was His habit, to ^cthe Mount of Olives; and the disciples followed Him. 40 ^aWhen He arrived at the place called Gethsemane, He said to them, “^bPray continually that you may not fall into temptation.” Matt 26:36-46; Mark 14:32-42 41 And He withdrew from them about a stone’s throw, and ^aknelt down and prayed, 42 saying, “Father, if You are willing, remove this ^acup of divine wrath from Me; ^byet not My will, but always Yours be done.” 43 ¹Now ^aan angel appeared to Him from heaven, strengthening Him. 44 And ^abeing in agony deeply distressed and anguished; almost to the point of death, He prayed more intently; and His ¹sweat became like drops of blood, falling down on the ground. Heb 5:7 45 When He rose from prayer, He came to the disciples and found them sleeping from sorrow, 46 and He said to them, “Why are you sleeping? Get up and ^apray that you may not fall into temptation.”

47 ^aWhile He was still speaking, a crowd came, and the man called Judas, one of the twelve disciples, was leading the way for them. He approached Jesus to ¹kiss Him. Matt 26:47-56; Mark 14:43-50; John 18:3-11 48 And Jesus said to him, “Judas, are you betraying the Son of Man with a kiss?” 49 When those who were around Him saw what was about to happen, they said, “Lord, should we strike with the ^asword?” 50 And ¹one of them struck the slave of the high priest and cut off his right ear. Matt 26:51; Mark 14:47; John 18:10 51 But Jesus replied, “Stop! No more of this.” And He touched the ear and healed him. 52 Then Jesus said to the chief priests and ^aofficers of the temple and elders of the Sanhedrin who had come out against Him, “Have you come out with swords and clubs ^bas you would against a robber? 53 Day after day when I was with you in the temple, you did not lay hands on Me; but this hour and the power and authority of darkness are yours.”

54 Then ^athey seized Him, and led Him away and brought Him to the elegant house of the Jewish ¹high priest. And ^bPeter was following at a safe distance. 55 ^aAfter they had kindled a fire in the middle of ^bthe courtyard and had sat down together, Peter sat among them. Matt 26:69-75; Mark 14:66-72; John 18:16-18, 25-27 56 And a servant-girl, seeing him as he sat in the firelight and looking intently at him, said, “This man was with Him too.” 57 But Peter denied it, saying, “Woman, I do not know Him!” 58 A little later ^asomeone else saw him and said, “You are one of them too.” But Peter said, “Man, I am not!” 59 After about an hour had passed, another man began to insist, “This man was with Him, ^afor he is a Galilean too.” 60 But Peter said, “Man, I do not know what you are talking about.” Immediately, while he was still speaking, a rooster crowed. 61 ^aThe Lord turned and looked at Peter. 63 ^aNow the men who were holding Jesus in custody were mocking and ridiculing Him and treating Him with contempt and beating Him. 64 They blindfolded Him and asked, “^aProphesy, who is it that struck You?” 65 And they were saying many other evil and slanderous things against Him, ^ablaspheming speaking sacrilegiously and abusively about Him.

66 ^aWhen day came, ^bthe Council of the elders of the people (Sanhedrin, Jewish High Court) assembled, both chief priests and scribes; and they led Jesus away to the ^ccouncil chamber, saying, 67 “^aIf You are the Christ (the Messiah, the Anointed) , tell us.” But He said to them, “If I tell you, you will not believe what I say, 68 and if I ask a question, you will not answer. 69 ^aBut from now on, ^bTHE SON OF MAN WILL BE SEATED AT THE RIGHT HAND of the power OF GOD.” Ps 110:1 70 And they all said, “Are You ^athe Son of God, then?” He replied, “^1bIt is just as you say.” 71 Then they asked, “What further need of testimony do we have? For we ourselves have heard it from His own mouth.”
