Antes de la fiesta de la Pascua^a, sabiendo Jesús que su hora había llegado^b para pasar de este mundo al Padre^c, habiendo amado a los suyos que estaban en el mundo, los amó hasta el fin¹. 2 Y durante la cena, como ya el diablo^a había puesto en el corazón de Judas Iscariote, hijo de Simón, el que lo entregara^b, 3 Jesús, sabiendo que el Padre había puesto¹ todas las cosas en sus manos^a, y que de Dios había salido^b y a Dios volvía, 4 se levantó* de la cena y se quitó* su manto, y tomando una toalla, se la ciñó^a. 5 Luego echó* agua en una vasija, y comenzó a lavar los pies^a de los discípulos y a secárselos con la toalla que tenía ceñida. 6 Entonces llegó* a Simón Pedro. Este le dijo*: Señor, ¿tú lavarme a mí los pies? 7 Jesús respondió, y le dijo: Ahora tú no comprendes lo que yo hago, pero lo entenderás después^a. 8 Pedro le contestó*: ¡Jamás me lavarás^a los pies! Jesús le respondió: Si no te lavo, no tienes parte conmigo^b. 9 Simón Pedro le dijo*: Señor, entonces nosolo los pies, sino también las manos y la cabeza. 10 Jesús le dijo*: El que se ha bañado no necesita lavarse, excepto los pies, pues¹ está todo limpio; y vosotros estáis limpios^a, pero no todos. 11 Porque sabía quién le iba a entregar^a; por eso dijo: No todos estáis limpios.

12 Entonces, cuando acabó de lavarles los pies, tomó su manto^a, y sentándose¹ a la mesa otra vez, les dijo: ¿Sabéis lo que os he hecho? 13 Vosotros me llamáis Maestro^a y Señor^b; y tenéis razón¹, porque lo soy. 14 Pues si yo, el Señor^a y el Maestro, os lavé los pies, vosotros también debéis lavaros los pies unos a otros. 15 Porque os he dado ejemplo^a, para que como yo os he hecho, vosotros también hagáis. 16 En verdad, en verdad os digo: un siervo no es mayor que su señor^a, ni un enviado^b es mayor que el que lo envió. 17 Si sabéis esto, seréis felices si lo practicáis^a. 18 No hablo de todos vosotros^a; yo conozco a los que he escogido^b; pero es para que se cumpla la Escritura^c: «EL QUE COME MI PAN HA LEVANTADO CONTRA MÍ SU CALCAÑAR^d». 19 Os lo digo desde ahora, antes de que pase, para que cuando suceda, creáis^a que yo soy^1b. 20 En verdad, en verdad os digo: el que recibe al que yo envíe, me recibe a mí; y el que me recibe a mí, recibe al que me envió^a.

21 Habiendo dicho Jesús esto, se angustió en espíritu^a, y testificó y dijo: En verdad, en verdad os digo que uno de vosotros me entregará^b. 22 Los discípulos se miraban unos a otros, y estaban perplejos sin saber de quién hablaba^a. 23 Uno de sus discípulos, el que Jesús amaba^a, estaba a la mesa reclinado en el pecho de Jesús^b. 24 Por eso Simón Pedro le hizo* señas, y le dijo*: Dinos de quién habla. 25 Él, recostándose de nuevo¹ sobre el pecho de Jesús, le dijo*: Señor, ¿quién es^a? 26 Entonces Jesús respondió*: Es aquel a quien yo daré el bocado que voy a mojar. Y después de mojar el bocado, lo tomó* y se lo dio* a Judas, hijo de Simón Iscariote^a. 27 Y después del bocado, Satanás^a entró en él^b. Entonces Jesús le dijo*: Lo que vas a hacer, hazlo pronto. 28 Pero ninguno de los que estaban sentados¹ a la mesa entendió por qué le dijo esto. 29 Porque algunos pensaban que como Judas tenía la bolsa del dinero^a, Jesús le decía: Compra lo que necesitamos para la fiesta^b, o que diera algo a los pobres^c. 30 Y Judas¹, después de recibir el bocado, salió inmediatamente; y ya era de noche^a.

31 Entonces, cuando salió, Jesús dijo*: Ahora es¹ glorificado^a el Hijo del Hombre^b, y Dios es glorificado en Él^c. 32 Si Dios es glorificado en Él¹, Dios también le glorificará en sí mismo^a, y le glorificará enseguida. 33 Hijitos^a, estaré con vosotros un poco más de tiempo^b. Me buscaréis, y como dije a los judíos, ahora también os digo a vosotros: adonde yo voy, vosotros no podéis ir^c. 34 Un mandamiento nuevo os doy^a: que os améis los unos a los otros^b; que como yo os he amado^c, así también os améis los unos a los otros. 35 En esto conocerán todos que sois mis discípulos, si os tenéis amor los unos a los otros^a.

36 Simón Pedro le dijo*: Señor, ¿adónde vas? Jesús respondió: Adonde yo voy, tú no me puedes seguir^a ahora, pero me seguirás después^b. 37 Pedro le dijo*: Señor, ¿por qué no te puedo seguir ahora mismo? ^a¡Yo daré mi vida por ti! 38 Jesús le respondió*: ¿Tu vida darás por mí? En verdad, en verdad te digo: no cantará el gallo sin que antes me hayas negado tres veces^a.

Now before the Feast of ^athe Passover, Jesus knowing that ^bHis hour had come that He would depart out of this world ^cto the Father, having loved His own who were in the world, He loved them ¹to the end. 2 During supper, ^athe devil having already put into the heart of ^bJudas Iscariot, the son of Simon, to betray Him, 3 Jesus, ^aknowing that the Father had given all things into His hands, and that ^bHe had come forth from God and was going back to God, 4 *got up from supper, and *laid aside His garments; and taking a towel, He ^agirded Himself.

5 Then He *poured water into the basin, and began to ^awash the disciples’ feet and to wipe them with the towel with which He was girded. 6 So He *came to Simon Peter. He *said to Him, “Lord, do You wash my feet?” 7 Jesus answered and said to him, “What I do you do not realize now, but you will understand ^ahereafter.” 8 Peter *said to Him, “Never shall You wash my feet!” Jesus answered him, “^aIf I do not wash you, ^byou have no part with Me.” 9 Simon Peter *said to Him, “Lord, then wash not only my feet, but also my hands and my head.” 10 Jesus *said to him, “He who has bathed needs only to wash his feet, but is completely clean; and ^ayou are clean, but not all of you.” 11 For ^aHe knew the one who was betraying Him; for this reason He said, “Not all of you are clean.”

12 So when He had washed their feet, and ^ataken His garments and reclined at the table again, He said to them, “Do you know what I have done to you? 13 You call Me ^aTeacher and ^bLord; and ¹you are right, for so I am. 14 If I then, ^athe Lord and the Teacher, washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another’s feet. 15 For I gave you ^aan example that you also should do as I did to you. 16 Truly, truly, I say to you, ^aa slave is not greater than his master, nor is ^bone who is sent greater than the one who sent him. 17 If you know these things, you are ^ablessed if you do them. 18 ^aI do not speak of all of you. I know the ones I have ^bchosen; but it is ^cthat the Scripture may be fulfilled, ‘^dHE WHO EATS MY BREAD HAS LIFTED UP HIS HEEL AGAINST ME.’ 19 From now on ^aI am telling you before it comes to pass, so that when it does occur, you may believe that ^bI am He. 20 Truly, truly, I say to you, ^ahe who receives whomever I send receives Me; and he who receives Me receives Him who sent Me.”

21 When Jesus had said this, He ^abecame troubled in spirit, and testified and said, “Truly, truly, I say to you, that ^bone of you will ¹betray Me.” 22 The disciples began looking at one another, ^aat a loss to know of which one He was speaking. 23 There was reclining on ^aJesus’ bosom one of His disciples, ^bwhom Jesus loved. 24 So Simon Peter *gestured to him, and *said to him, “Tell us who it is of whom He is speaking.” 25 He, ^aleaning back thus on Jesus’ bosom, *said to Him, “Lord, who is it?” 26 Jesus then *answered, “That is the one for whom I shall dip the morsel and give it to him.” So when He had dipped the morsel, He *took and *gave it to Judas, ^athe son of Simon Iscariot. 27 After the morsel, ^aSatan then ^bentered into him. Therefore Jesus *said to him, “What you do, do quickly.” 28 Now no one of those reclining at the table knew for what purpose He had said this to him. 29 For some were supposing, because Judas ^ahad the money box, that Jesus was saying to him, “Buy the things we have need of ^bfor the feast”; or else, that he should ^cgive something to the poor. 30 So after receiving the morsel he went out immediately; and ^ait was night.

31 Therefore when he had gone out, Jesus *said, “Now ¹is ^athe Son of Man ^bglorified, and ^cGod ²is glorified in Him; 32 ¹if God is glorified in Him, ^aGod will also glorify Him in Himself, and will glorify Him immediately. 33 ^aLittle children, I am with you ^ba little while longer. ^cYou will seek Me; and as I said to the Jews, now I also say to you, ‘Where I am going, you cannot come.’ 34 A ^anew commandment I give to you, ^bthat you love one another, ^ceven as I have loved you, that you also love one another. 35 ^aBy this all men will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.”

36 Simon Peter *said to Him, “Lord, where are You going?” Jesus answered, “^aWhere I go, you cannot follow Me now; but ^byou will follow later.” 37 Peter *said to Him, “Lord, why can I not follow You right now? ^aI will lay down my life for You.” 38 Jesus *answered, “Will you lay down your life for Me? Truly, truly, I say to you, ^aa rooster will not crow until you deny Me three times.

Now before ^athe Passover Feast, Jesus knew that ^bHis hour had come and it was time for Him to leave this world and return ^cto the Father. Having greatly loved His own who were in the world, He loved them and continuously loves them with His perfect love to the end (eternally) . 2 It was during supper, when ^athe devil had already put the thought of betraying Jesus into the heart of ^bJudas Iscariot, Simon’s son, 3 that Jesus, ^aknowing that the Father had put everything into His hands, and that ^bHe had come from God and was now returning to God, 4 got up from supper, took off His outer robe, and taking a servant’s towel, He ^atied it around His waist.

5 Then He poured water into the basin and began ^awashing the disciples’ feet and wiping them with the towel which was tied around His waist. 6 When He came to Simon Peter, he said to Him, “Lord, are You going to wash my feet?” 7 Jesus replied to him, “You do not realize now what I am doing, but you will fully understand it ^alater.” 8 Peter said to Him, “You will never wash my feet!” Jesus answered, “^aUnless I wash you, ^byou have no part with Me we can have nothing to do with each other.” 9 Simon Peter said to Him, “Lord, in that case, wash not only my feet, but also my hands and my head!” 10 Jesus said to him, “Anyone who has bathed needs only to wash his feet, and is completely clean. And ^ayou My disciples are clean, but not all of you.” 11 For ^aHe knew who was going to betray Him; for that reason He said, “Not all of you are clean.”

12 So when He had washed their feet and ^aput on His outer robe and reclined at the table again, He said to them, “Do you understand what I have done for you? 13 You call Me ^aTeacher and ^bLord, and you are right in doing so, for that is who I am. 14 So if I, ^athe Lord and the Teacher, washed your feet, you ought to wash one another’s feet as well. 15 For I gave you this as ^aan example, so that you should do in turn as I did to you. 16 I assure you and most solemnly say to you, ^aa slave is not greater than his master, nor is ^bone who is sent greater than the one who sent him. 17 If you know these things, you are ^ablessed happy and favored by God if you put them into practice and faithfully do them. 18 ^aI am not speaking of all of you. I know whom I have ^bchosen; but this has happened in order ^cthat the Scripture may be fulfilled: ‘^dHE WHO EATS MY BREAD HAS RAISED UP HIS HEEL AGAINST ME as My enemy.’ Ps 41:9 19 From now on ^aI am telling you what will happen before it occurs, so that when it does take place you may believe that ^bI am He who I say I am—the Christ, the Anointed, the Messiah. 20 I assure you and most solemnly say to you, ^athe one who receives and welcomes whomever I send receives Me; and the one who receives Me receives Him who sent Me in that same way.”

21 After Jesus had said these things, He ^awas ¹troubled in spirit, and testified and said, “I assure you and most solemnly say to you, ^bone of you will betray Me and hand Me over.” 22 The disciples began looking at one another, ^apuzzled and disturbed as to whom He could mean. 23 ¹One of His disciples, ^awhom Jesus loved (esteemed) , was ²leaning against ^bJesus’ chest. 24 So Simon Peter motioned to him (John) and quietly asked him to ask Jesus of whom He was speaking. 25 Then ^aleaning back against Jesus’ chest, he (John) asked Him privately, “Lord, who is it?” 26 Jesus answered, “It is the one to whom I am going to give this piece of bread after I have dipped it.” So when He had dipped the piece of bread into the dish, He gave it to Judas, ^ason of Simon Iscariot. 27 After Judas had taken the piece of bread, ^aSatan ^bentered him. Then Jesus said to him, “What you are going to do, do quickly without delay.” 28 But no one reclining at the table knew why He said this to him. 29 Some thought that, since Judas as the treasurer of the group ^ahad the money box, Jesus was telling him, “Buy what we need ^bfor the feast,” or that he was to ^1cgive something to the poor. 30 After taking the piece of bread, he went out immediately; and ^ait was night.

31 So when Judas had left, Jesus said, “Now is the time for ^athe Son of Man to be ^bglorified, and ^cGod is glorified in Him; 32 [¹if God is glorified in Him,] ^aGod will also glorify Him (the Son) in Himself, and will glorify Him at once. 33 ^aLittle children, I am with you only ^ba little longer. ^cYou will look for Me and, as I told the Jews, so I tell you now, ‘Where I am going, you are not able to come.’ John 8:21 34 I am giving you a ^anew commandment, ^bthat you ¹love one another. ^cJust as I have loved you, so you too are to love one another. 35 ^aBy this everyone will know that you are My disciples, if you have love and unselfish concern for one another.”

36 Simon Peter said to Him, “Lord, where are You going?” Jesus answered, “^aWhere I am going, you cannot follow Me now; but ^byou will be able to follow later.” 37 Peter said to Him, “Lord, why cannot I follow You now? ^aI will lay down my life for You!” Matt 26:33-35; Mark 14:29-31; Luke 22:33, 34 38 Jesus answered, “Will you really lay down your life for Me? I assure you and most solemnly say to you, ^abefore a rooster crows you will deny and completely disown Me three times.
