Hubo un hombre en la tierra de Uz^a llamado Job^b; y era aquel hombre intachable¹, recto^c, temeroso de² Dios^d y apartado del mal^e. 2 Y le nacieron siete hijos y tres hijas^a. 3 Su hacienda era de siete mil ovejas, tres mil camellos, quinientas yuntas de bueyes, quinientas asnas^a y muchísima servidumbre; y era aquel hombre el más grande^b de todos los hijos del oriente. 4 Sus hijos solían ir y hacer un banquete en la casa de cada uno por turno, e invitaban¹ a sus tres hermanas para que comieran y bebieran con ellos. 5 Y sucedía que cuando los días del banquete habían pasado¹, Job enviaba a buscarlos y los santificaba, y levantándose temprano, ofrecía holocaustos^a conforme al número de todos ellos. Porque Job decía: Quizá mis hijos hayan pecado^b y maldecido a Dios en sus corazones^c. Así hacía Job siempre. 6 Hubo un día cuando los hijos de Dios vinieron a presentarse delante del SEÑOR^a, y Satanás¹ vino también entre ellos^b. 7 Y el SEÑOR dijo a Satanás: ¿De dónde vienes? Entonces Satanás respondió al SEÑOR, y dijo: De recorrer la tierra y de andar por ella^a. 8 Y el SEÑOR dijo a Satanás: ¿Te has fijado¹ en mi siervo Job^a? Porque no hay ninguno como él sobre la tierra, hombre intachable² y recto, temeroso de³ Dios y apartado del mal^b. 9 Respondió Satanás^a al SEÑOR¹: ¿Acaso teme Job a Dios de balde? 10 ¿No has hecho tú una valla alrededor de él, de su casa y de todo lo que tiene, por todos lados^a? Has bendecido el trabajo de sus manos^b y sus posesiones han aumentado en la tierra^c. 11 Pero extiende ahora tu mano y toca todo lo que tiene^a, verás si no te maldice en tu misma cara^b. 12 Entonces el SEÑOR dijo a Satanás: He aquí, todo lo que tiene está en tu poder¹; pero no extiendas tu mano sobre él. Y Satanás salió de la presencia del SEÑOR.

13 Y aconteció que un¹ día en que sus hijos y sus hijas estaban comiendo y bebiendo vino en la casa del hermano mayor, 14 vino un mensajero a Job y dijo: Los bueyes estaban arando y las asnas paciendo junto a ellos, 15 y los sabeos^1a atacaron² y se los llevaron. También mataron³ a los criados a filo de espada;solo yo⁴ escapé para contártelo. 16 Mientras estabaeste hablando, vino otro y dijo: Fuego de Dios cayó del cielo y quemó las ovejas y a los criados y los consumió^a;solo yo escapé para contártelo. 17 Mientras estabaeste hablando, vino otro y dijo: Los caldeos^a formaron tres cuadrillas y atacaron los camellos y se los llevaron, y mataron¹ a los criados a filo de espada;solo yo escapé para contártelo. 18 Mientras estabaeste hablando, vino otro y dijo: Tus hijos y tus hijas estaban comiendo y bebiendo vino en la casa de su hermano mayor, 19 y he aquí, vino un gran viento del otro lado del desierto y azotó las cuatro esquinas de la casa, yesta cayó sobre los jóvenes y murieron;solo yo escapé para contártelo.

20 Entonces Job se levantó, rasgó su manto, se rasuró la cabeza, y postrándose en tierra^a, adoró, 21 y dijo:Desnudo salí del vientre de mi madrey desnudo volveré allá^a.El SEÑOR dio y el SEÑOR quitó^b;bendito sea el nombre del SEÑOR. 22 En todo esto Job no pecó ni culpó¹ a Dios^a.

There was a man in the ^aland of Uz whose name was ^bJob; and that man was ^cblameless, upright, ^dfearing God and ^eturning away from evil. 2 ^aSeven sons and three daughters were born to him. 3 ^aHis possessions also were 7,000 sheep, 3,000 camels, 500 yoke of oxen, 500 female donkeys, and very many servants; and that man was ^bthe greatest of all the ¹men of the east. 4 His sons used to go and hold a feast in the house of each one on his day, and they would send and invite their three sisters to eat and drink with them. 5 When the days of feasting had completed their cycle, Job would send and consecrate them, rising up early in the morning and offering ^aburnt offerings according to the number of them all; for Job said, “^bPerhaps my sons have sinned and ^ccursed God in their hearts.” Thus Job did continually.

6 ^aNow there was a day when the ^bsons of God came to present themselves before the LORD, and ¹Satan also came among them. 7 The LORD said to Satan, “From where do you come?” Then Satan answered the LORD and said, “^aFrom roaming about on the earth and walking around on it.” 8 The LORD said to Satan, “Have you ¹considered ^aMy servant Job? For there is no one like him on the earth, ^ba blameless and upright man, ²fearing God and turning away from evil.” 9 Then ^aSatan answered the ¹LORD, “Does Job fear God for nothing? 10 ^aHave You not made a hedge about him and his house and all that he has, on every side? ^bYou have blessed the work of his hands, and his ^cpossessions have increased in the land. 11 ^aBut put forth Your hand now and ^btouch all that he has; he will surely curse You to Your face.” 12 Then the LORD said to Satan, “Behold, all that he has is in your ¹power, only do not put forth your hand on him.” So Satan departed from the presence of the LORD.

13 Now on the day when his sons and his daughters were eating and drinking wine in their oldest brother’s house, 14 a messenger came to Job and said, “The oxen were plowing and the ¹donkeys feeding beside them, 15 and ¹the ^aSabeans ²attacked and took them. They also ³slew the servants with the edge of the sword, and ⁴I alone have escaped to tell you.” 16 While he was still speaking, another also came and said, “^aThe fire of God fell from heaven and burned up the sheep and the servants and consumed them, and I alone have escaped to tell you.” 17 While he was still speaking, another also came and said, “The ^aChaldeans formed three bands and made a raid on the camels and took them and ¹slew the servants with the edge of the sword, and I alone have escaped to tell you.” 18 While he was still speaking, another also came and said, “Your sons and your daughters were eating and drinking wine in their oldest brother’s house, 19 and behold, a great wind came from across the wilderness and struck the four corners of the house, and it fell on the young people and they died, and I alone have escaped to tell you.”

20 Then Job arose and ^atore his robe and shaved his head, and he fell to the ground and worshiped. 21 He said,“^aNaked I came from my mother’s womb,And naked I shall return there.The ^bLORD gave and the LORD has taken away.Blessed be the name of the LORD.”

22 ^aThrough all this Job did not sin nor did he ¹blame God.

¹There was a man in the ^aland of Uz whose name was ^bJob; and that man was ^cblameless and upright, and one who ^dfeared God with reverence and ^eabstained from and turned away from evil because he honored God. 2 ^aSeven sons and three daughters were born to him. 3 ^aHe also possessed 7,000 sheep, 3,000 camels, 500 yoke (pairs) of oxen, 500 female donkeys, and a very great number of servants, so that this man was ^bthe greatest and wealthiest and most respected of all the men of the east (northern Arabia) . 4 His sons used to go in turn and feast in the house of each one on his ¹day, and they would send word and invite their three sisters to eat and drink with them. Gen 21:8; 40:20 5 When the days of their feasting were over, Job would send for them and consecrate them, rising early in the morning and offering ^aburnt offerings according to the number of them all; for Job said, “^bIt may be that my sons have sinned and ^1ccursed God in their hearts.” Job did this at all such times.

6 ^aNow there was a day when the ^bsons of God (angels) came to present themselves before the ¹LORD, and Satan (adversary, accuser) also came among them. Rev 12:10 7 The LORD said to Satan, “From where have you come?” Then Satan answered the LORD, “^aFrom roaming around on the earth and from walking around on it.” 8 The LORD said to Satan, “Have you considered and reflected on ^aMy servant Job? For there is none like him on the earth, ^ba blameless and upright man, one who fears God with reverence and abstains from and turns away from evil because he honors God.” 9 Then ^aSatan answered the LORD, “Does Job fear God for nothing? 10 ^aHave You not put a hedge of protection around him and his house and all that he has, on every side? ^bYou have blessed the work of his hands and conferred prosperity and happiness upon him, and his ^cpossessions have increased in the land. 11 ^aBut put forth Your hand now and ^btouch (destroy) all that he has, and he will surely curse You to Your face.” 12 Then the LORD said to Satan, “Behold, all that Job has is in your power, only do not put your hand on the man himself.” So Satan departed from the presence of the LORD.

13 Now there was a day when Job’s sons and daughters were eating and drinking wine in their oldest brother’s house, 14 and a messenger came to Job and said, “The oxen were plowing and the donkeys were feeding beside them, 15 and the ^1aSabeans attacked and swooped down on them and took away the animals. They also killed the servants with the edge of the sword, and I alone have escaped to tell you.” 16 While he was still speaking, another messenger also came and said, “^aThe fire of God (lightning) has fallen from the heavens and has burned up the sheep and the servants and consumed them, and I alone have escaped to tell you.” 17 While he was still speaking, another messenger also came and said, “The ^1aChaldeans formed three bands and made a raid on the camels and have taken them away and have killed the servants with the edge of the sword, and I alone have escaped to tell you.” 18 While he was still speaking, another messenger also came and said, “Your sons and your daughters were eating and drinking wine in their oldest brother’s house, 19 and suddenly, a great wind came from across the desert, and struck the four corners of the house, and it fell on the young people and they died, and I alone have escaped to tell you.”

20 Then Job got up and ^atore his robe and shaved his head in mourning for the children, and he fell to the ground and worshiped God. 21 He said,“^aNaked (without possessions) I came into this world from my mother’s womb,And naked I will return there.The ^bLORD gave and the LORD has taken away;Blessed be the name of the LORD.”

22 ^aThrough all this Job did not sin nor did he blame God.
