Y el hombre conoció a Eva, su mujer, y ella concibió y dio a luz a Caín¹, y dijo: He adquirido varón² con la ayuda del SEÑOR. 2 Después¹ dio a luz a su hermano Abel. Y Abel^a fue pastor^b de ovejas y Caín fue labrador de la tierra. 3 Y aconteció que al transcurrir el tiempo¹, Caín trajo al SEÑOR una ofrenda del fruto de la tierra. 4 También Abel^a, por su parte, trajo de los primogénitos de sus ovejas y de la grosura de los mismos. Y el SEÑOR miró con agrado a Abel y a su ofrenda^b, 5 pero a Caín y su ofrenda no miró con agrado^a. Y Caín se enojó mucho^b y su semblante se demudó. 6 Entonces el SEÑOR dijo a Caín: ¿Por qué estás enojado^a, y por qué se ha demudado tu semblante? 7 Si haces bien, ¿no serás aceptado?^1a Y si no haces bien, el pecado^b yace a la puerta y te codicia², pero tú debes dominarlo^c. 8 Y Caín dijo a su hermano Abel: vayamos al campo¹. Y aconteció que cuando estaban en el campo, Caín se levantó contra su hermano Abel y lo mató^a.

9 Entonces el SEÑOR dijo a Caín: ¿Dónde está tu hermano Abel^a? Y él respondió: No sé. ¿Soy yo acaso guardián de mi hermano? 10 Y Él le dijo: ¿Qué has hecho? La voz de la sangre de tu hermano clama a mí desde la tierra^a. 11 Ahora pues, maldito^a eres de la tierra, que ha abierto su boca para recibir de tu mano la sangre de tu hermano. 12 Cuando cultives el suelo, no te dará más su vigor^a; vagabundo y errante serás en la tierra^b. 13 Y Caín dijo al SEÑOR: Mi castigo¹ es demasiado grande para soportarlo. 14 He aquí, me has arrojado^a hoy de la faz de la tierra, y de tu presencia¹ me esconderé, y seré vagabundo y errante en la tierra^b; y sucederá que cualquiera que me halle me matará^c. 15 Entonces el SEÑOR le dijo: No será así¹; pues cualquiera que mate a Caín, siete veces sufrirá venganza^a. Y puso el SEÑOR una señal² sobre Caín, para que cualquiera que lo hallase no lo matara^b.

16 Y salió Caín de la presencia del SEÑOR^a, y se estableció¹ en la tierra de Nod², al oriente del Edén. 17 Y conoció Caín a su mujer, y ella concibió y dio a luz a Enoc; y edificó una ciudad y la llamó¹ Enoc, como el nombre de su hijo. 18 A Enoc le nació Irad, Irad engendró a Mehujael, Mehujael engendró a Metusael, y Metusael engendró a Lamec. 19 Lamec tomó para sí dos mujeres^a; el nombre de una era Ada, y el nombre de la otra, Zila. 20 Y Ada dio a luz a Jabal, el cual fue padre de los que habitan en tiendas y tienen ganado. 21 Su hermano se llamaba Jubal, el cual fue padre de todos los que tocan la lira¹ y la flauta. 22 Y Zila a su vez dio a luz a Tubal-caín, forjador de todo utensilio¹ de bronce y de hierro; y la hermana de Tubal-caín era Naama. 23 Y Lamec dijo a sus mujeres:Ada y Zila, oíd mi voz;mujeres de Lamec,prestad oído a mis palabras,pues he dado muerte^1a a un hombre por haberme herido,y a un muchacho por haberme pegado.

25 Y conoció Adán otra vez a su mujer^a; y ella dio a luz un hijo y le puso por nombre Set¹, porque, dijo ella: Dios me ha dado² otro hijo³ en lugar de Abel, pues Caín lo mató^b. 26 A Set le nació también un hijo y le puso por nombre Enós^a. Por ese tiempo comenzaron los hombres a invocar¹ el nombre del SEÑOR^b.

Now the man ¹had relations with his wife Eve, and she conceived and gave birth to ²Cain, and she said, “I have gotten a ³manchild with the help of the LORD.” 2 Again, she gave birth to his brother Abel. And ^aAbel was ^ba keeper of flocks, but Cain was a tiller of the ground. 3 So it came about ¹in the course of time that Cain brought an offering to the LORD of the fruit of the ground. 4 ^aAbel, on his part also brought of the firstlings of his flock and of their fat portions. And ^bthe LORD had regard for Abel and for his offering; 5 but ^afor Cain and for his offering He had no regard. So ^bCain became very angry and his countenance fell. 6 Then the LORD said to Cain, “^aWhy are you angry? And why has your countenance fallen? 7 ^aIf you do well, ¹will not your countenance be lifted up? ^bAnd if you do not do well, sin is crouching at the door; and its desire is for you, ^cbut you must master it.” 8 Cain ¹told Abel his brother. And it came about when they were in the field, that Cain rose up against Abel his brother and ^akilled him.

9 Then the LORD said to Cain, “^aWhere is Abel your brother?” And he said, “I do not know. Am I my brother’s keeper?” 10 He said, “What have you done? ^aThe voice of your brother’s blood is crying to Me from the ground. 11 Now ^ayou are cursed from the ground, which has opened its mouth to receive your brother’s blood from your hand. 12 ^aWhen you cultivate the ground, it will no longer yield its strength to you; ^byou will be a vagrant and a wanderer on the earth.” 13 Cain said to the LORD, “My punishment is too great to bear! 14 Behold, You have ^adriven me this day from the face of the ground; and from Your face I will be hidden, and ^bI will be a vagrant and a wanderer on the earth, and ^cwhoever finds me will kill me.” 15 So the LORD said to him, “Therefore whoever kills Cain, vengeance will be taken on him ^asevenfold.” And the LORD ^1bappointed a sign for Cain, so that no one finding him would slay him.

16 Then Cain went out from the presence ^aof the LORD, and ¹settled in the land of ²Nod, east of Eden.

17 Cain ¹had relations with his wife and she conceived, and gave birth to Enoch; and he built a city, and called the name of the city Enoch, after the name of his son. 18 Now to Enoch was born Irad, and Irad ¹became the father of Mehujael, and Mehujael ²became the father of Methushael, and Methushael ³became the father of Lamech. 19 Lamech took to himself ^atwo wives: the name of the one was Adah, and the name of the other, Zillah. 20 Adah gave birth to Jabal; he was the father of those who dwell in tents and have livestock. 21 His brother’s name was Jubal; he was the father of all those who play the lyre and pipe. 22 As for Zillah, she also gave birth to Tubal-cain, the forger of all implements of bronze and iron; and the sister of Tubal-cain was Naamah.

23 Lamech said to his wives,“Adah and Zillah,Listen to my voice,You wives of Lamech,Give heed to my speech,^aFor I ¹have killed a man for wounding me;And a boy for striking me;

25 ^aAdam ¹had relations with his wife again; and she gave birth to a son, and named him ²Seth, for, she said, “God ³has appointed me another ⁴offspring in place of Abel, ^bfor Cain killed him.” 26 To Seth, to him also ^aa son was born; and he called his name Enosh. Then men began ^bto call ¹upon the name of the LORD.

Now the man ¹Adam knew Eve as his wife, and she conceived and gave birth to Cain, and she said, “I have obtained a man (baby boy, son) with the help of the LORD.” 2 And later she gave birth to his brother Abel. Now ^aAbel ^bkept the flocks of sheep and goats, but Cain cultivated the ground. 3 And in the course of time Cain brought to the LORD an offering of the fruit of the ground. 4 But ^aAbel brought an offering of the finest firstborn of his flock and the ¹fat portions. And ^bthe LORD had respect (regard) for Abel and for his offering; Heb 11:4 5 but ^afor Cain and his offering He had no respect. So ^bCain became extremely angry (indignant) , and ¹he looked annoyed and hostile. 6 And the LORD said to Cain, “^aWhy are you so angry? And why do you look annoyed? 7 ^aIf you do well believing Me and doing what is acceptable and pleasing to Me, will you not be accepted? ^bAnd if you do not do well but ignore My instruction, sin crouches at your door; its desire is for you to overpower you, ^cbut you must master it.” 8 Cain talked with Abel his brother about what God had said. And when they were alone, working in the field, Cain ¹attacked Abel his brother and ^akilled him. 1+@John 3:12

9 Then the LORD said to Cain, “^aWhere is Abel your brother?” And he lied and said, “I do not know. Am I my brother’s keeper?” 10 The LORD said, “What have you done? ^aThe voice of your brother’s innocent blood is crying out to Me from the ground for justice. Num 35:33; Deut 21:1-9 11 And now ^ayou are cursed from the ground, which has opened its mouth to receive your brother’s shed blood from your hand. Deut 28:15-20 12 ^aWhen you cultivate the ground, it shall no longer yield its strength it will resist producing good crops for you; ^byou shall be a fugitive and a vagabond roaming aimlessly on the earth in perpetual exile without a home, a degraded outcast.” 13 Cain said to the LORD, “My punishment is greater than I can bear. 14 Behold, You have ^adriven me out this day from the face of the land; and from Your face (presence) I will be hidden, and ^bI will be a fugitive and an aimless vagabond on the earth, and ^cwhoever finds me will kill me.” 15 And the LORD said to him, “¹Therefore, whoever kills Cain, a ^asevenfold vengeance that is, punishment seven times worse shall be taken on him by Me.” And the LORD ^bset a protective ²mark (sign) on Cain, so that no one who found (met) him would kill him. Gen 4:24

16 So Cain went away from the manifested presence ^aof the LORD, and lived in the land of Nod wandering in exile, east of Eden.

17 Cain knew his ¹wife one of Adam’s descendants and she conceived and gave birth to Enoch; and Cain built a city and named it Enoch, after the name of his son. 18 Now to Enoch was born Irad, and Irad became the father of Mehujael, and Mehujael became the father of Methushael, and Methushael became the father of Lamech. 19 And Lamech took for himself ^atwo wives; the name of the one was Adah, and the name of the other, Zillah. 20 Adah gave birth to Jabal; he became the father of those nomadic herdsmen who live in tents and have cattle and raise livestock. 21 His brother’s name was Jubal; he became the father of all those musicians who play the lyre and flute. 22 Zillah gave birth to Tubal-cain, the smith (craftsman) and teacher of every artisan in instruments of bronze and iron. The sister of Tubal-cain was Naamah.

23 Lamech said to his wives,“Adah and Zillah,Hear my voice;You wives of Lamech,Listen to what I say;^aFor I have killed a man merely for wounding me,And a boy only for striking (bruising) me.

25 ^aAdam knew Eve as his wife again; and she gave birth to a son, and named him Seth, for she said, “God has granted another child for me in place of Abel, ^bbecause Cain killed him.” 26 To Seth, also, ^aa son was born, whom he named Enosh (mortal man, mankind) . At that same time men began ^bto call on the name of the LORD in worship through prayer, praise, and thanksgiving. Joel 2:32; Luke 3:38; Acts 2:21
