3 Doy gracias a Dios^a, a quien sirvo^b con limpia conciencia^c como lo hicieron mis antepasados¹, de que sin cesar, noche y día, me acuerdo de ti en mis oraciones^2d, 4 deseando verte^a, al acordarme de tus lágrimas^b, para llenarme de alegría. 5 Porque tengo presente¹ la fe sincera² que hay en ti, la cual habitó primero en tu abuela Loida^a y en tu madre Eunice^b, y estoy seguro que en ti también. 6 Por lo cual te recuerdo que avives el fuego del don de Dios que hay en ti por la imposición de mis manos^a. 7 Porque no nos ha dado Dios espíritu de cobardía^a, sino de poder, de amor y de dominio propio¹. 8 Por tanto, no te avergüences^a del testimonio de nuestro Señor^b, ni de mí, prisionero suyo^c, sino participa conmigo en las aflicciones^d por el evangelio, según el poder de Dios^e, 9 quien nos ha salvado^a y nos ha llamado^b con un llamamiento santo^c, no según nuestras obras^d, sino según su propósito^e y según la gracia que nos fue dada en Cristo Jesús^f desde la eternidad^1g, 10 y que ahora ha sido manifestada^a por la aparición de nuestro Salvador^b Cristo Jesús^c, quien abolió la muerte^d y sacó a la luz la vida y la inmortalidad por medio del evangelio, 11 para el cual¹ yo fui constituido predicador², apóstol y maestro^a. 12 Por lo cual también sufro estas cosas, pero no me avergüenzo^a; porque yo sé en quién he creído, y estoy convencido de que es poderoso^b para guardar mi depósito^1c hasta² aquel día^d. 13 Retén^a la norma^1b de las sanas palabras^c que has oído de mí^d, en la fe y el amor^e en Cristo Jesús^f. 14 Guarda, mediante el Espíritu Santo que habita en nosotros^a, el tesoro que te ha sido encomendado^1b.

15 Ya sabes esto, que todos los que están en Asia^1a me han vuelto la espalda^b, entre los cuales están Figelo y Hermógenes. 16 Conceda el Señor misericordia a la casa de Onesíforo^a, porque muchas veces me dio refrigerio y no se avergonzó^b de mis cadenas^1c, 17 antes bien, cuando estuvo en Roma, me buscó con afán y me halló; 18 que el Señor le conceda hallar misericordia del Señor en aquel día^a. 3 ^aI thank God, whom I ^bserve with a ^cclear conscience ¹the way my forefathers did, ^das I constantly remember you in my ²prayers night and day, 4 ^alonging to see you, ^beven as I recall your tears, so that I may be filled with joy. 5 ¹For I am mindful of the ^asincere faith within you, which first dwelt in your grandmother Lois and ^byour mother Eunice, and I am sure that it is in you as well. 6 For this reason I remind you to kindle afresh ^athe gift of God which is in you through ^bthe laying on of my hands. 7 For God has not given us a ^aspirit of ¹timidity, but of power and love and ²discipline.

15 You are aware of the fact that all who are in ^1aAsia ^bturned away from me, among whom are Phygelus and Hermogenes. 16 The Lord grant mercy to ^athe house of Onesiphorus, for he often refreshed me and ^bwas not ashamed of my ^1cchains; 17 but when he was in Rome, he eagerly searched for me and found me— 18 the Lord grant to him to find mercy from the Lord on ^athat day—and you know very well what services he rendered at ^bEphesus.

3 ^aI thank God, whom I ^bworship and serve with a ^cclear conscience the way my forefathers did, ^das I constantly remember you in my prayers night and day, 4 and as I recall your tears, ^aI long to see you ^bso that I may be filled with joy. 5 I remember your ^asincere and unqualified faith the surrendering of your entire self to God in Christ with confident trust in His power, wisdom and goodness, a faith which first lived in the heart of your grandmother Lois and ^byour mother Eunice, and I am confident that it is in you as well. 6 That is why I remind you to ¹fan into flame ^athe gracious gift of God, that inner fire—the special endowment which is in you through ^bthe laying on of my hands with those of the elders at your ordination. 7 For God did not give us a ^aspirit of timidity or cowardice or fear, but He has given us a spirit of power and of love and of sound judgment and personal discipline abilities that result in a calm, well-balanced mind and self-control.

8 So ^ado not be ashamed to ^btestify about our Lord or about me ^cHis prisoner, but with me take your share of ^dsuffering for the ^egospel continue to preach regardless of the circumstances, in accordance with the power of God for His power is invincible, 9 for He delivered us and ^asaved us and ^bcalled us with a holy ^ccalling a calling that leads to a consecrated life—a life set apart—a life of purpose, ^dnot because of our works or because of any personal merit—we could do nothing to earn this, but because of His own ^epurpose and grace His amazing, undeserved favor which was granted to us in ^fChrist Jesus ^gbefore the world began eternal ages ago, 10 but ^anow that extraordinary purpose and grace has been fully disclosed and realized by us through the ^bappearing of our Savior ^cChrist Jesus who through His incarnation and earthly ministry ^dabolished death making it null and void and brought life and immortality to light through the gospel, 11 ^afor which I was appointed a preacher and an apostle and a teacher of this good news regarding salvation. 12 This is why I suffer as I do. 15 You are aware of the fact that all who are in the province of ^aAsia ^bturned away and deserted me, Phygelus and Hermogenes among them. 16 The Lord grant mercy to ^athe family of Onesiphorus, because he often refreshed me and showed me kindness comforting and reviving me like fresh air and he ^bwas not ashamed of my ^cchains for Christ’s sake; 17 but instead when he reached Rome, he eagerly searched for me and found me— 18 the Lord grant to him that he may find mercy from the Lord on ^1athat great day. You know very well how many things he did for me and what a help he was at ^bEphesus you know better than I can tell you.
