Aconteció en aquellos días que los filisteos reunieron sus ejércitos para la guerra^a, para pelear contra Israel. Y dijo Aquis a David: Bien sabes que saldrás conmigo a campaña, tú y tus hombres. 2 Respondió David a Aquis: Muy bien, tú sabrás lo que puede hacer tu siervo. Y Aquis dijo a David: Muy bien, te haré mi guarda personal¹ de por vida^2a.

3 Samuel había muerto^a, y todo Israel lo había llorado, y lo habían sepultado en Ramá su ciudad^b. Y Saúl había echado de la tierra a los médium y espiritistas^c. 4 Y se reunieron los filisteos y fueron y acamparon en Sunem^a; y Saúl reunió a todo Israel y acamparon en Gilboa^b. 5 Al ver Saúl el campamento de los filisteos, tuvo miedo y su corazón se turbó¹ en gran manera. 6 Y Saúl consultó al SEÑOR^a, pero el SEÑOR no le respondió^b ni por sueños^c, ni por Urim^d, ni por profetas. 7 Entonces Saúl dijo a sus siervos: Buscadme una mujer que sea médium para ir a consultarla. Y sus siervos le dijeron: He aquí, hay una mujer en Endor^a que es médium^b.

8 Saúl se disfrazó poniéndose otras ropas^a y fue con dos hombres; llegaron a la mujer de noche, y él dijo: Te ruego que evoques^b por mí a un espíritu, y que hagas subir al que yo te diga^c. 9 Pero la mujer le dijo: He aquí, tú sabes lo que Saúl ha hecho, cómo ha echado de la tierra a los que son médium y espiritistas^a. ¿Por qué, pues, pones trampa contra mi vida para hacerme morir? 10 Y Saúl le juró por el SEÑOR diciendo: Vive el SEÑOR que ningún castigo vendrá sobre ti por esto. 11 Entonces la mujer dijo: ¿A quién debo hacerte subir? Y él respondió: Tráeme a Samuel. 12 Cuando la mujer vio a Samuel, clamó a gran voz; y la mujer habló a Saúl diciendo: ¿Por qué me has engañado? ¡Tú eres Saúl! 13 Y el rey le dijo: No temas; pero, ¿qué ves? Y la mujer respondió a Saúl: Veo a un ser divino¹ subiendo de la tierra. 14 Y él le dijo: ¿Qué forma tiene? Y ella dijo: Un anciano sube, y está envuelto en un manto^a. Y Saúl conoció que era Samuel, e inclinando su rostro a tierra, se postró ante él^b.

15 Entonces Samuel dijo a Saúl: ¿Por qué me has perturbado haciéndome subir? Y Saúl respondió: Estoy en gran angustia, pues los filisteos hacen guerra contra mí; Dios se ha apartado de mí^a y ya no me responde ni por los profetas ni por sueños^b; por esto te he llamado, para que me reveles lo que debo hacer. 16 Y Samuel dijo: ¿Entonces, por qué me preguntas a mí, ya que el SEÑOR se ha apartado de ti y se ha hecho tu enemigo? 17 El SEÑOR ha hecho conforme a lo que¹ dijo por medio de mí; y el SEÑOR ha arrancado el reino de tu mano, y se lo ha dado a tu prójimo, a David^a. 18 Porque tú no obedeciste al¹ SEÑOR, ni llevaste a cabo su gran ira contra Amalec^a, el SEÑOR te ha hecho esto hoy. 19 Además, el SEÑOR entregará a Israel contigo en manos de los filisteos; por tanto, mañana tú y tus hijos estaréis conmigo^a. Ciertamente, el SEÑOR entregará el ejército de Israel en manos de los filisteos.

20 Al instante Saúl cayó por tierra cuan largo era, y tuvo gran temor por las palabras de Samuel; además estaba sin fuerzas, porque no había comido nada¹ en todo el día y toda la noche. 21 La mujer se acercó a Saúl, y viendo que estaba aterrorizado, le dijo: He aquí, tu sierva te ha obedecido¹ y he puesto mi vida en peligro^2a al oír las palabras que tú me hablaste. 22 Ahora pues, te ruego que también escuches la voz de tu sierva, y me permitas poner delante de ti un bocado de pan para que comas y tengas fuerzas cuando sigas tu camino. 23 Pero él rehusó, y dijo: No comeré^a. Sin embargo, sus siervos juntamente con la mujer le insistieron, y él los escuchó^1b. Se levantó, pues, del suelo y se sentó en la cama^c. 24 La mujer tenía en casa un ternero engordado y se apresuró a matarlo^a; y tomando harina, la amasó y coció de ella pan sin levadura^b. 25 Y lo trajo delante de Saúl y de sus siervos, y comieron. Después se levantaron y se fueron aquella noche.

Now it came about in those days that ^athe Philistines gathered their armed camps for war, to fight against Israel. And Achish said to David, “Know assuredly that you will go out with me in the camp, you and your men.” 2 David said to Achish, “Very well, you shall know what your servant can do.” So Achish said to David, “Very well, I will make you ¹my bodyguard ^afor life.”

3 Now ^aSamuel was dead, and all Israel had lamented him and buried him ^bin Ramah, his own city. And Saul had removed from the land those who ^cwere mediums and spiritists. 4 So the Philistines gathered together and came and camped ^ain Shunem; and Saul gathered all Israel together and they camped in ^bGilboa. 5 When Saul saw the camp of the Philistines, he was afraid and his heart trembled greatly. 6 ^aWhen Saul inquired of the LORD, ^bthe LORD did not answer him, either by ^cdreams or by ^dUrim or by prophets. 7 Then Saul said to his servants, “Seek for me a woman who is a medium, that I may go to her and inquire of her.” And his servants said to him, “Behold, ^athere is a woman who is a medium at ^bEn-dor.”

8 Then Saul ^adisguised himself by putting on other clothes, and went, he and two men with him, and they came to the woman by night; and he said, “^bConjure up for me, please, and ^cbring up for me whom I shall ¹name to you.” 9 But the woman said to him, “Behold, you know ^awhat Saul has done, how he has cut off those who are mediums and spiritists from the land. Why are you then laying a snare for my life to bring about my death?” 10 Saul vowed to her by the LORD, saying, “As the LORD lives, no punishment shall come upon you for this thing.” 11 Then the woman said, “Whom shall I bring up for you?” And he said, “Bring up Samuel for me.” 12 When the woman saw Samuel, she cried out with a loud voice; and the woman spoke to Saul, saying, “Why have you deceived me? For you are Saul.” 13 The king said to her, “Do not be afraid; but what do you see?” And the woman said to Saul, “I see a ¹divine being coming up out of the earth.” 14 He said to her, “What is his form?” And she said, “An old man is coming up, and ^ahe is wrapped with a robe.” And Saul knew that it was Samuel, and ^bhe bowed with his face to the ground and did homage.

15 Then Samuel said to Saul, “Why have you disturbed me by bringing me up?” And Saul answered, “I am greatly distressed; for the Philistines are waging war against me, and ^aGod has departed from me and ^bno longer answers me, either through prophets or by dreams; therefore I have called you, that you may make known to me what I should do.” 16 Samuel said, “Why then do you ask me, since the LORD has departed from you and has become your adversary? 17 The LORD has done ¹accordingly ^aas He spoke through me; for the LORD has torn the kingdom out of your hand and given it to your neighbor, to David. 18 As ^ayou did not ¹obey the LORD and did not execute His fierce wrath on Amalek, so the LORD has done this thing to you this day. 19 Moreover the LORD will also give over Israel along with you into the hands of the Philistines, therefore tomorrow ^ayou and your sons will be with me. Indeed the LORD will give over the army of Israel into the hands of the Philistines!”

20 Then Saul immediately fell full length upon the ground and was very afraid because of the words of Samuel; also there was no strength in him, for he had eaten no ¹food all day and all night. 21 The woman came to Saul and saw that he was terrified, and said to him, “Behold, your maidservant has ¹obeyed you, and ^aI have ²taken my life in my hand and have listened to your words which you spoke to me. 22 So now also, please listen to the voice of your maidservant, and let me set a piece of bread before you that you may eat and have strength when you go on your way.” 23 But he refused and said, “^aI will not eat.” ^bHowever, his servants together with the woman urged him, and he listened to ¹them. So he arose from the ground and sat on ^cthe bed. 24 The woman had a ^afattened calf in the house, and she quickly slaughtered it; and she ^btook flour, kneaded it and baked unleavened bread from it. 25 She brought it before Saul and his servants, and they ate. Then they arose and went away that night.

In those days ^athe Philistines gathered their forces for war to fight against Israel. Achish said to David, “Understand for certain that you and your men will go out with me to battle.” 2 David said to Achish, “All right, you shall know what your servant can do.” So Achish said to David, “Therefore I will make you my bodyguard ^afor life.”

3 Now ^aSamuel had died, and all Israel had mourned for him and buried him ^bin Ramah, his own city. And Saul had removed ^cthe mediums and the spiritists (soothsayers) from the land. 4 The Philistines assembled and came and camped at ^aShunem; and Saul gathered all the Israelites and they camped at ^bGilboa. 5 When Saul saw the Philistine army, he was afraid and ¹badly shaken. 6 ^aSo Saul inquired of the LORD, but ^bthe LORD did not answer him, either by ^cdreams or by ^dUrim used like lots by the priest to determine the will of God or by prophets. Prov 1:24-30 7 Then Saul said to his servants, “Find for me a woman who is a medium between the living and the dead, so that I may go to her and ask her advice.” His servants said to him, “^aThere is a woman who is a medium at ^bEn-dor.”

8 So Saul ^adisguised himself by wearing different clothes, and he left with two men, and they came to the woman at night. He said to her, “^bConjure up for me, please, and ^cbring up from the dead for me the spirit whom I shall name to you.” 9 But the woman said to him, “See here, you know ^awhat Saul has done, how he has cut off (eliminated) those who are mediums and spiritists from the land. So why are you laying a trap for my life, to cause my death?” 10 Then Saul swore an oath to her by the LORD, saying, “As the LORD lives, no punishment shall come upon you for this.” 11 So the woman said, “Whom shall I bring up for you?” He said, “Bring up Samuel for me.” 12 When the woman saw Samuel, she screamed with a loud voice; and she said to Saul, “Why have you deceived me? You are Saul!” 13 The king said to her, “Do not be afraid; but tell me what do you see?” The woman said to Saul, “I see a ¹divine superhuman being coming up from the earth.” 14 He said to her, “What is his appearance?” And she said, “An old man is coming up, ^awrapped in a robe.” Then Saul knew that it was Samuel, and ^bhe bowed with his face to the ground and paid respect to him.

15 Then Samuel said to Saul, “Why have you disturbed me by bringing me up?” Saul answered, “I am greatly distressed; for the Philistines are making war against me, and ^aGod has left me and ^bno longer answers me, either through prophets or by dreams; therefore I have called you to make known to me what I should do.” 16 Samuel said, “Why then do you ask me, since the LORD has left you and has become your enemy? 17 The LORD has done to you just ^aas He said through me when I was with you; for the LORD has torn the kingdom out of your hand and given it to your neighbor, to David. 1+@Sam 15:22-28 18 Because ^ayou did not obey the voice of the LORD and did not execute His fierce wrath on Amalek, therefore the LORD has done this thing to you this day. 19 Moreover, the LORD will also put Israel along with you into the hands of the Philistines, and tomorrow ^ayou and your sons will be with me among the dead. Indeed, the LORD will put the army of Israel into the hands of the Philistines.”

20 Then Saul immediately fell full length on the earth floor of the medium’s house, and was very afraid because of Samuel’s words; ¹and he was thoroughly exhausted because he had not eaten all day and all night. 21 The woman came to Saul and saw that he was greatly troubled, and she said to him, “Look, your maidservant has obeyed you, and ^aI have taken my life in my hand and have listened to everything you said to me. 22 So now, please listen to the voice of your maidservant, and let me set a piece of bread before you, and eat, so that you may have strength when you go on your way.” 23 But he refused and said, “^aI will not eat.” ^bBut his servants together with the woman urged him, and he finally listened to them. So he got up from the ground and sat on ^cthe bed. 24 The woman had a ^afattened calf in the house; she quickly killed it, and ^btook flour, kneaded it and baked unleavened bread. 25 She brought it before Saul and his servants, and they ate. Then they got up and went away that night.
