Pasaron tres años¹ sin que hubiera guerra entre Aram e Israel. 2 ^aY sucedió que al tercer año, Josafat, rey de Judá, descendió a visitar al rey de Israel^b. 3 Y el rey de Israel dijo a sus siervos: ¿Sabéis que Ramot de Galaad^a nos pertenece, y no estamos haciendo nada para¹ quitarla de mano del rey de Aram? 4 Y dijo a Josafat: ¿Quieres venir conmigo a pelear contra Ramot de Galaad? Respondió Josafat al rey de Israel: Yo soy como tú, mi pueblo como tu pueblo, mis caballos como tus caballos^a.

5 Josafat dijo además al rey de Israel: Te ruego que consultes primero¹ la palabra del SEÑOR. 6 Entonces el rey de Israel reunió a los profetas^a, unos cuatrocientos hombres, y les dijo: ¿Debo ir a pelear contra Ramot de Galaad o debo desistir? Y ellos respondieron: Sube porque el Señor la entregará en manos del rey. 7 Pero Josafat dijo: ¿No queda aún aquí algún profeta del SEÑOR, para que le consultemos^a? 8 Y el rey de Israel dijo a Josafat: Todavía queda un hombre por medio de quien podemos consultar al SEÑOR, pero lo aborrezco, porque no profetiza lo bueno en cuanto a mí, sino lo malo. Es Micaías, hijo de Imla. Pero Josafat dijo: No hable el rey así. 9 Entonces el rey de Israel llamó a un oficial, y le dijo: Trae pronto¹ a Micaías, hijo de Imla. 10 El rey de Israel y Josafat, rey de Judá, estaban sentados cada uno en su trono, vestidos con sus mantos, en la era a la entrada de la puerta de Samaria; y todos los profetas^a estaban profetizando delante de ellos. 11 Y Sedequías, hijo de Quenaana, se había hecho unos cuernos^a de hierro y decía: Así dice el SEÑOR: «Conestos acornearás a los arameos hasta acabarlos^b». 12 Y todos los profetas profetizaban así, diciendo: Sube a Ramot de Galaad y tendrás éxito, pues el SEÑOR la entregará en manos del rey.

13 Y el mensajero que fue a llamar a Micaías le habló, diciendo: He aquí, las palabras de los profetas son unánimes en favor del rey. Te ruego que tu palabra sea como la palabra de uno de ellos, y que hables favorablemente. 14 Pero Micaías dijo: Vive el SEÑOR^a que lo que el SEÑOR me diga, eso hablaré^b. 15 Y cuando llegó al rey, el rey le dijo: Micaías, ¿iremos a Ramot de Galaad a pelear, o debemos desistir? Y él le respondió: Sube, y tendrás éxito, y el SEÑOR la entregará en manos del rey^a. 16 Entonces el rey le dijo: ¿Cuántas veces he de tomarte juramento de que no me digas más que la verdad en el nombre del SEÑOR? 17 Y él respondió:Vi a todo Israelesparcido por los montes,como ovejas sin pastor;y el SEÑOR dijo: «Estos no tienen señor,que cada uno vuelva a su casa en paz^a». 18 Y el rey de Israel dijo a Josafat: ¿No te dije que no profetizaría lo bueno acerca de mí, sino lo malo^a? 19 Respondió Micaías: Por tanto, escucha la palabra del SEÑOR. Yo vi al SEÑOR sentado en su trono^a, y todo el ejército de los cielos estaba junto a Él^b, a su derecha y a su izquierda. 20 Y el SEÑOR dijo: «¿Quién inducirá a Acab para que suba y caiga en Ramot de Galaad?». Y él respondió: «Saldré y seré espíritu de mentira en boca de todos sus profetas^a». Entonces Él dijo: «Le inducirás y también prevalecerás. Ve y hazlo así». 23 Y ahora, he aquí que el SEÑOR ha puesto un espíritu de mentira en boca de todos estos tus profetas; pues el SEÑOR ha decretado el mal contra ti^a.

24 Entonces se acercó Sedequías, hijo de Quenaana^a, y golpeó a Micaías en la mejilla y dijo: ¿Cómo es que el Espíritu del SEÑOR pasó de mí para hablarte a ti^b? 25 Respondió Micaías: He aquí, tú lo verás aquel día en que entres en un aposento interior¹ para esconderte^a. 26 Y el rey de Israel dijo: Toma a Micaías y devuélvelo a Amón, gobernador de la ciudad, y a Joás, hijo del rey, 27 y di: «Así dice el rey: “Echad aeste a la cárcel, y alimentadlo con poco pan y poca agua¹ hasta que yo vuelva en paz^a”». 28 Y Micaías dijo: Si en verdad vuelves en paz, el SEÑOR no ha hablado por mí^a. Y añadió: Oíd, pueblos todos^b.

29 Y el rey de Israel y Josafat, rey de Judá, subieron contra Ramot de Galaad^a. 30 Y el rey de Israel dijo a Josafat: Yo me disfrazaré para entrar en la batalla^a, pero tú ponte tus ropas reales. El rey de Israel se disfrazó y entró en la batalla. 31 Pero el rey de Aram había ordenado a los treinta y dos capitanes de sus carros, diciendo: No peleéis contra chico ni contra grande, sinosolo contra el rey de Israel^a. 32 Y sucedió que cuando los capitanes de los carros vieron a Josafat, dijeron: Ciertamenteeste es el rey de Israel, y se desviaron para pelear contra él, pero Josafat gritó. 33 Y sucedió que cuando los capitanes de los carros vieron que no era el rey de Israel, dejaron de perseguirlo.

34 Y un hombre disparó su arco al azar e hirió al rey de Israel por entre la juntura de la armadura¹. Y él dijo a su cochero: Da la vuelta² y sácame de la batalla³, pues estoy gravemente herido^a. 35 Pero la batalla arreció aquel día, y el rey fue sostenido en su carro frente a los arameos y al atardecer murió; la sangre de la herida corría hasta el fondo del carro. 36 A la puesta del sol, pasó un grito por el ejército que decía: Cada hombre a su ciudad y cada uno a su tierra^a.

37 Murió, pues, el rey y fue llevado a Samaria, y sepultaron al rey en Samaria. 38 Lavaron el carro junto al estanque de Samaria y los perros lamieron su sangre (y allí se bañaban las rameras), conforme a la palabra que el SEÑOR había hablado^a. 39 Los demás hechos de Acab y todo lo que hizo, la casa de marfil^a que edificó y todas las ciudades que edificó, ¿no están escritos en el libro de las Crónicas de los reyes de Israel^b? 40 Durmió, pues, Acab con sus padres; y su hijo Ocozías reinó en su lugar.

41 ^aY Josafat, hijo de Asa, comenzó a reinar sobre Judá en el cuarto año de Acab, rey de Israel. 42 Josafat tenía treinta y cinco años cuando comenzó a reinar, y reinó veinticinco años en Jerusalén. Y el nombre de su madre era Azuba, hija de Silhi. 43 Y anduvo en todo el camino de su padre Asa^a; no se desvió de él, haciendo lo recto ante los ojos del SEÑOR. Sin embargo, los lugares altos no fueron quitados; todavía el pueblo sacrificaba y quemaba incienso en los lugares altos^b. 44 También Josafat hizo la paz con el rey de Israel^a.

45 Los demás hechos de Josafat, el poderío que mostró y cómo guerreó, ¿no están escritos en el libro de las Crónicas de los reyes de Judá^a? 46 Y echó fuera¹ de la tierra al resto de los sodomitas^a que habían quedado en los días de su padre Asa. 47 No había entonces ningún rey en Edom^a; había gobernador en lugar de rey. 48 Josafat se construyó naves de Tarsis para ir a Ofir por oro^a, pero no fueron porque las naves se rompieron^b en Ezión-geber^c. 49 Y Ocozías, hijo de Acab, dijo a Josafat: Permite que mis siervos vayan con tus siervos en las naves. Pero Josafat no quiso. 50 Y Josafat durmió con sus padres y fue sepultado con sus padres en la ciudad de su padre David; y su hijo Joram reinó en su lugar^a.

51 Ocozías, hijo de Acab, comenzó a reinar sobre Israel^a en Samaria en el año diecisiete de Josafat, rey de Judá, y reinó dos años sobre Israel. 52 E hizo lo malo ante los ojos del SEÑOR, y anduvo en el camino de su padre, en el camino de su madre y en el camino de Jeroboam, hijo de Nabat, el que hizo pecar a Israel^a. 53 Sirvió, pues, a Baal y lo adoró, y provocó a ira al SEÑOR, Dios de Israel^a, conforme a todo lo que había hecho su padre.

Three ¹years passed without war between Aram and Israel. 2 ^aIn the third year ^bJehoshaphat the king of Judah came down to the king of Israel. 3 Now the king of Israel said to his servants, “Do you know that ^aRamoth-gilead belongs to us, and we ¹are still doing nothing to take it out of the hand of the king of Aram?” 4 And he said to Jehoshaphat, “Will you go with me to battle at Ramoth-gilead?” And Jehoshaphat said to the king of Israel, “^aI am as you are, my people as your people, my horses as your horses.”

5 Moreover, Jehoshaphat said to the king of Israel, “Please inquire ¹first for the word of the LORD.” 6 Then ^athe king of Israel gathered the prophets together, about four hundred men, and said to them, “Shall I go against Ramoth-gilead to battle or shall I refrain?” And they said, “Go up, for the Lord will give it into the hand of the king.” 7 But ^aJehoshaphat said, “Is there not yet a prophet of the LORD here that we may inquire of him?” 8 The king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, “There is yet one man by whom we may inquire of the LORD, but I hate him, because he does not prophesy good concerning me, but evil. He is Micaiah son of Imlah.” But Jehoshaphat said, “Let not the king say so.” 9 Then the king of Israel called an officer and said, “¹Bring quickly Micaiah son of Imlah.” 10 Now the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat king of Judah were sitting each on his throne, arrayed in their robes, at the threshing floor at the entrance of the gate of Samaria; and ^aall the prophets were prophesying before them. 11 Then Zedekiah the son of Chenaanah made ^ahorns of iron for himself and said, “Thus says the LORD, ‘^bWith these you will gore the Arameans until they are consumed.’” 12 All the prophets were prophesying thus, saying, “Go up to Ramoth-gilead and prosper, for the LORD will give it into the hand of the king.”

13 Then the messenger who went to summon Micaiah spoke to him saying, “Behold now, the words of the prophets are uniformly favorable to the king. Please let your word be like the word of one of them, and speak favorably.” 14 But Micaiah said, “^aAs the LORD lives, what ^bthe LORD says to me, that I shall speak.”

15 When he came to the king, the king said to him, “Micaiah, shall we go to Ramoth-gilead to battle, or shall we refrain?” And he ¹answered him, “^aGo up and succeed, and the LORD will give it into the hand of the king.” 16 Then the king said to him, “How many times must I adjure you to speak to me nothing but the truth in the name of the LORD?” 17 So he said,“I saw all IsraelScattered on the mountains,^aLike sheep which have no shepherd.And the LORD said,‘These have no master.Let each of them return to his house in peace.’” 18 Then the king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, “^aDid I not tell you that he would not prophesy good concerning me, but evil?”

19 ¹Micaiah said, “Therefore, hear the word of the LORD. ^aI saw the LORD sitting on His throne, and ^ball the host of heaven standing by Him on His right and on His left. 20 The LORD said, ‘Who will entice Ahab to go up and fall at Ramoth-gilead?’ And one said this while another said that. 21 Then a spirit came forward and stood before the LORD and said, ‘I will entice him.’ 22 The LORD said to him, ‘How?’ And he said, ‘I will go out and ^abe a deceiving spirit in the mouth of all his prophets.’ Then He said, ‘You are to entice him and also prevail. Go and do so.’ 23 Now therefore, behold, ^athe LORD has put a deceiving spirit in the mouth of all these your prophets; and the LORD has proclaimed disaster against you.”

24 Then ^aZedekiah the son of Chenaanah came near and struck Micaiah on the cheek and said, “^bHow did the Spirit of the LORD pass from me to speak to you?” 25 Micaiah said, “Behold, you shall see on that day when you ^aenter an inner room to hide yourself.” 26 Then the king of Israel said, “Take Micaiah and return him to Amon the governor of the city and to Joash the king’s son; 27 and say, ‘Thus says the king, “^aPut this man in prison and feed him ¹sparingly with bread and water until I return safely.”’” 28 Micaiah said, “^aIf you indeed return safely the LORD has not spoken by me.” And he said, “^bListen, all you people.”

29 So ^athe king of Israel and Jehoshaphat king of Judah went up against Ramoth-gilead. 30 The king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, “^aI will disguise myself and go into the battle, but you put on your robes.” So the king of Israel disguised himself and went into the battle. 31 Now ^athe king of Aram had commanded the thirty-two captains of his chariots, saying, “Do not fight with small or great, but with the king of Israel alone.” 32 So when the captains of the chariots saw Jehoshaphat, they said, “Surely it is the king of Israel,” and they turned aside to fight against him, and Jehoshaphat cried out. 33 When the captains of the chariots saw that it was not the king of Israel, they turned back from pursuing him.

34 Now a certain man drew his bow at random and struck the king of Israel ¹in a joint of the armor. So he said to the driver of his chariot, “Turn ²around and take me out of the ³fight; ^afor I am severely wounded.” 35 The battle ¹raged that day, and the king was propped up in his chariot in front of the Arameans, and died at evening, and the blood from the wound ran into the bottom of the chariot. 36 ^aThen a cry passed throughout the army close to sunset, saying, “Every man to his city and every man to his ¹country.”

37 So the king died and was brought to Samaria, and they buried the king in Samaria. 38 They washed the chariot by the pool of Samaria, and the dogs licked up his blood (now the harlots bathed themselves there), ^aaccording to the word of the LORD which He spoke. 39 Now the rest of the acts of Ahab and all that he did and ^athe ivory house which he built and all the cities which he built, are they not written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Israel? 40 So Ahab slept with his fathers, and Ahaziah his son became king in his place.

41 ^aNow Jehoshaphat the son of Asa became king over Judah in the fourth year of Ahab king of Israel. 42 Jehoshaphat was thirty-five years old when he became king, and he reigned twenty-five years in Jerusalem. And his mother’s name was Azubah the daughter of Shilhi. 43 ^aHe walked in all the way of Asa his father; he did not turn aside from it, doing right in the sight of the LORD. ^bHowever, the high places were not taken away; the people still sacrificed and burnt incense on the high places. 44 ^aJehoshaphat also made peace with the king of Israel.

45 Now the rest of the acts of Jehoshaphat, and his might which he showed and how he warred, are they not written ^ain the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Judah? 46 The remnant of ^athe sodomites who remained in the days of his father Asa, he ¹expelled from the land.

47 Now ^athere was no king in Edom; a deputy was king. 48 Jehoshaphat made ^aships of Tarshish to go to ^bOphir for gold, but ^cthey did not go for the ships were broken at ^dEzion-geber. 49 Then Ahaziah the son of Ahab said to Jehoshaphat, “Let my servants go with your servants in the ships.” But Jehoshaphat was not willing. 50 ^aAnd Jehoshaphat slept with his fathers and was buried with his fathers in the city of his father David, and Jehoram his son became king in his place.

51 Ahaziah the son of Ahab ^abecame king over Israel in Samaria in the seventeenth year of Jehoshaphat king of Judah, and he reigned two years over Israel. 52 He did evil in the sight of the LORD and ^awalked in the way of his father and in the way of his mother and in the way of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who caused Israel to sin. 53 ^aSo he served Baal and worshiped him and provoked the LORD God of Israel to anger, according to all that his father had done.

Aram (Syria) and Israel continued without war for three years. 2 ^aIn the third year ^bJehoshaphat king of Judah came down to the ¹king of Israel. 3 Now the king of Israel said to his servants, “Do you know that ^aRamoth in Gilead is ours, yet we are still doing nothing to take it from the hand of the king of Aram?” 4 And Ahab said to Jehoshaphat, “Will you go with me to battle at Ramoth-gilead?” Jehoshaphat said to the king of Israel, “^aI am as you are, my people as your people, my horses as your horses.”

5 But Jehoshaphat said to the king of Israel, “Please inquire first for the word of the LORD.” 6 Then ^athe king of Israel gathered the prophets together, about four hundred men, and said to them, “Shall I go to battle against Ramoth-gilead, or should I not?” And they said, “Go up, for the LORD has handed it over to the king.” 7 ^aBut Jehoshaphat doubted and said, “Is there not another prophet of the LORD here whom we may ask?” 8 The king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, “There is one more man, Micaiah the son of Imlah, by whom we may inquire of the LORD, but I hate him, because he never prophesies good news for me, but only evil.” But Jehoshaphat said, “May the king not say that Micaiah only tells bad news.” 9 Then the king of Israel summoned an officer and said, “Bring quickly Micaiah the son of Imlah.” 10 Now the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat king of Judah were each sitting on his throne, dressed in their royal robes, in an open place at the threshing floor at the entrance of the gate of Samaria; and ^aall the prophets were prophesying before them. 11 Then Zedekiah the son of Chenaanah made for himself ^ahorns of iron and said, “Thus says the LORD: ‘^bWith these you will gore the Arameans (Syrians) until they are destroyed.’” 12 All the prophets were prophesying in the same way to please Ahab, saying, “Go up to Ramoth-gilead and be successful, for the LORD will hand it over to the king.”

13 Then the messenger who went to summon Micaiah said to him, “¹Listen carefully, the words of the prophets are unanimously favorable to the king. Please let your words be like the word of one of them, and speak favorably.” 14 But Micaiah said, “^aAs the LORD lives, I will speak what ^bthe LORD says to me.”

15 So when he came to the king, the king said to him, “Micaiah, shall we go against Ramoth-gilead in battle, or shall we not?” And he answered him, “^aGo up and be successful, for the LORD will hand it over to the king.” 16 But the king doubted him and said to him, “How many times must I make you swear to tell me nothing but the truth in the name of the LORD?” 17 And he said,“I saw all IsraelScattered upon the mountains,^aLike sheep that have no shepherd.And the LORD said,‘These have no master.Let each of them return to his house in peace.’” 18 Then the king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, “^aDid I not tell you that he would not prophesy good concerning me, but evil?”

24 But ^aZedekiah the son of Chenaanah approached and struck Micaiah on the cheek and said, “^bHow did the Spirit of the LORD pass from me to speak to you?” 25 Micaiah said, “Behold, you shall see on that day of the king’s defeat when you ^aenter an inner room looking for a place to hide yourself.” 26 Then the king of Israel said, “Take Micaiah and return him to Amon, the governor of the city, and to Joash, the king’s son, 27 and say, ‘Thus says the king, “^aPut this man in prison, and feed him sparingly with the bread and water until I return safely.”’” 28 Micaiah said, “^aIf you indeed return safely, the LORD has not spoken by me.” Then he said, “^bListen, all you people.”

29 So Ahab ^athe king of Israel and Jehoshaphat the king of Judah went up to Ramoth-gilead. 30 The king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, “^aI will disguise myself and enter the battle, but you put on your royal clothing.” So the king of Israel disguised himself and went into the battle. 31 Now ^athe king of Aram (Syria) had commanded the thirty-two captains of his chariots, saying, “Do not fight with anyone, either small or great, but with Ahab the king of Israel alone.” 32 When the captains of the chariots saw Jehoshaphat, they said, “Surely it is the king of Israel.” They turned to fight against him, and Jehoshaphat shouted out in fear. 33 When the captains of the chariots saw that it was not the king of Israel, they turned back from pursuing him.

34 But one man drew a bow at ¹random and struck the king of Israel in a joint of the armor. So he said to the driver of his chariot, “Turn around and take me out of the fight, ^abecause I have been seriously wounded.” 35 The battle raged that day, and Ahab the king was propped up in his chariot facing the Arameans (Syrians) . And in the evening he died, and the blood from his wound ran down into the bottom of the chariot. 36 ^aThen about sundown a resounding cry passed throughout the army, saying, “Every man to his city and every man to his own country!”

37 So the king died and was brought to Samaria, and they buried the king in Samaria. 38 They washed the chariot by the pool on the outskirts of Samaria, where the prostitutes bathed, and the dogs licked up his blood, ^ain accordance with the word of the LORD which He had spoken. 1+@Kin 21:19 39 Now the rest of Ahab’s acts, and everything that he did, ^athe ivory palace which he built and all the cities which he built, are they not written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Israel? 40 So Ahab slept with his fathers in death, and Ahaziah his son became king in his place.

47 ^aNow there was no king in Edom; a deputy (governor) was serving as king. 48 Jehoshaphat had large cargo ^aships of Tarshish constructed to go to ^bOphir for gold, but ^cthey did not go, because the ships were wrecked at ^dEzion-geber. 49 Then Ahaziah the son of Ahab said to Jehoshaphat, “Let my servants go with your servants in the ships,” But Jehoshaphat was unwilling and refused. 50 ^aJehoshaphat slept with his fathers in death and was buried with his fathers in the city of his father David, and Jehoram his son became king in his place.

51 Ahaziah the son of Ahab ^abecame king over Israel in Samaria in the seventeenth year of Jehoshaphat king of Judah, and he reigned over Israel for two years. 52 He did evil in the sight of the LORD and ^awalked in the idolatrous way of his father Ahab and of his mother Jezebel, and in the way of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who made Israel sin. 53 ^aHe served Baal and worshiped him, and he provoked the LORD God of Israel to anger, in accordance with everything that his father Ahab had done.
