Miserias de la vida

¿No está el hombre obligado a trabajar¹ sobre la tierra^a?¿No son sus días como los días de un jornalero^b?2 Como esclavo que suspira por la sombra,y como jornalero que espera con ansias su paga,3 así me han dado en herencia meses inútiles,y noches de aflicción me han asignado^a.4 Cuando me acuesto, digo:«¿Cuándo me levantaré?».Pero la noche sigue,y estoy dando¹ vueltas continuamente hasta el amanecer^a.5 Mi carne está cubierta de gusanos y de una costra de tierra;mi piel se endurece y supura^a.6 Mis días pasan más veloces que la lanzadera^a,y llegan a su fin sin esperanza^b.

7 Recuerda, oh Dios, que mi vida es un soplo^a,mis ojos no volverán a ver el bien^b.8 El ojo del que me ve no me verá más^a;tus ojos estarán sobre mí, pero yo no existiré^b.9 Como una nube se desvanece y pasa^a,así el que desciende^b al Seol¹^c no subirá;10 no volverá más a su casa,ni su lugar lo verá más^a.

11 Por tanto, no refrenaré mi boca,hablaré en la angustia de mi espíritu,me quejaré en la amargura de mi alma^a.12 ¿Soy yo el mar, o un monstruo marino^a,para que me pongas guardia?13 Si digo: «Mi cama me consolará,mi lecho atenuará¹ mi queja^a»,14 entonces tú me asustas con sueñosy me aterrorizas con visiones;15 mi alma, pues, escoge la asfixia,la muerte, en lugar de mis dolores¹.16 Languidezco¹; no he de vivir para siempre^a.Déjame solo, pues mis días son un soplo^b.17 ¿Qué es el hombre para que lo engrandezcas,para que te preocupes por¹ él^a,18 para que lo examines cada mañana,y a cada momento lo pongas a prueba^a?19 ¿Nunca¹ apartarás de mí tu mirada,ni me dejarás solo^a hasta que trague mi saliva?20 ¿He pecado^a? ¿Qué te he hecho a ti,oh guardián de los hombres^b?¿Por qué has hecho de mí tu blanco,de modo que soy una carga para mí mismo?21 Entonces, ¿por qué no perdonas mi transgresióny quitas mi iniquidad^a?Porque ahora dormiré en el polvo^b;y tú me buscarás, pero ya no existiré^c.

“¹Is not man ^aforced to labor on earth,And are not his days like the days of ^ba hired man?2 “As a slave who pants for the shade,And as a hired man who eagerly waits for his wages,3 So am I allotted months of vanity,And ^anights of trouble are appointed me.4 “When I ^alie down I say,‘When shall I arise?’But the night continues,And I am ¹continually tossing until dawn.5 “My ^aflesh is clothed with worms and a crust of dirt,My skin hardens and runs.6 “My days are ^aswifter than a weaver’s shuttle,And come to an end ^bwithout hope.

7 “Remember that my life ^ais but breath;My eye will ^bnot again see good.8 “The ^aeye of him who sees me will behold me no longer;Your eyes will be on me, but ^bI will not be.9 “When a ^acloud vanishes, it is gone,So ^bhe who goes down to ^cSheol does not come up.10 “He will not return again to his house,Nor will ^ahis place know him anymore.

11 “Therefore ^aI will not restrain my mouth;I will speak in the anguish of my spirit,I will complain in the bitterness of my soul.12 “Am I the sea, or ^athe sea monster,That You set a guard over me?13 “If I say, ‘^aMy bed will comfort me,My couch will ¹ease my complaint,’14 Then You frighten me with dreamsAnd terrify me by visions;15 So that my soul would choose suffocation,Death rather than my ¹pains.16 “I ¹^awaste away; I will not live forever.Leave me alone, ^bfor my days are but a breath.17 “^aWhat is man that You magnify him,And that You ¹are concerned about him,18 That ^aYou examine him every morningAnd try him every moment?19 “¹^aWill You never turn Your gaze away from me,Nor let me alone until I swallow my spittle?20 “^aHave I sinned? What have I done to You,O ^bwatcher of men?Why have You set me as Your target,So that I am a burden to myself?21 “Why then ^ado You not pardon my transgressionAnd take away my iniquity?For now I will ^blie down in the dust;And You will seek me, ^cbut I will not be.”

Ps 8:418 “And that ^aYou examine him every morningAnd try and test him every moment?19 “^aWill You never turn Your gaze away from me it plagues me,Nor let me alone until I swallow my spittle?20 “If ^aI have sinned, what harm have I done to You,O ^bWatcher of mankind?Why have You set me as a target for You,So that I am a burden to myself?21 “Why then ^ado You not pardon my transgressionAnd take away my sin and guilt?For now I will ^blie down in the dust;And You will seek me diligently, ^cbut I will not be.”
