¿Quién es como el sabio?¿Y quién otro sabe la explicación de un asunto?La sabiduría del hombre ilumina su fazy hace que la dureza de su rostro cambie^a.

2 Yo digo: Guarda el mandato¹ del rey por causa del juramento de Dios^a. 3 No te apresures a irte de su presencia^a. No te unas a una causa impía, porque él hará todo lo que le plazca. 4 Puesto que la palabra del rey es soberana, ¿quién le dirá: Qué haces^a?

9 Todo esto he visto, y he puesto mi corazón en toda obra que se hace bajo el sol, cuando el hombre domina a otro hombre para su mal^a.

10 Y también he visto a los impíos ser sepultados, los que entraban y salían del lugar santo, y que fueron pronto olvidados^a en la ciudad en que así habían actuado. También esto es vanidad. 11 Como la sentencia contra una mala obra no se ejecuta enseguida^a, por eso el corazón de los hijos de los hombres está en ellos entregado enteramente a hacer el mal^b. 12 Aunque el pecador haga el mal cien veces y alargue su vida^a, con todo, yo sé que les irá bien a los que temen a Dios^b, a los que temen ante su presencia. 13 Pero no le irá bien al impío^a, ni alargará sus días como una sombra^b, porque no teme ante la presencia de Dios. 14 Hay una vanidad que se hace sobre la tierra: hay justos a quienes les sucede¹ conforme a las obras de los impíos^a, y hay impíos a quienes les sucede² conforme a las obras de los justos^b. Digo que también esto es vanidad. 15 Por tanto yo alabé el placer, porque no hay nada bueno para el hombre bajo el sol sino comer, beber y divertirse^a, y esto le acompañará en sus afanes¹ en los días de su vida que Dios le haya dado bajo el sol.

16 Cuando apliqué mi corazón a conocer la sabiduría y a ver la tarea que ha sido hecha sobre la tierra^a (aunque uno no durmiera¹ ni de día ni de noche^b), 17 y vi toda la obra de Dios, decidí que el hombre no puede descubrir la obra que se ha hecho^a bajo el sol. Aunque el hombre busque con afán, no la descubrirá; y aunque el sabio diga que la conoce, no puede descubrirla^b.

Who is like the wise man and who knows the interpretation of a matter? A man’s wisdom ^aillumines ¹him and causes his ^bstern face to ²beam.

2 I say, “Keep the ¹command of the king because of the ^aoath ²before God. 3 Do not be in a hurry ^1ato leave him. Do not join in an evil matter, for he will do whatever he pleases.” 4 Since the word of the king is authoritative, ^awho will say to him, “What are you doing?”

5 He who ^akeeps a royal command ^bexperiences no ¹trouble, for a wise heart knows the proper time and procedure. 6 For ^athere is a proper time and procedure for every delight, though a man’s trouble is heavy upon him. 7 If no one ^aknows what will happen, who can tell him when it will happen? 8 ^aNo man has authority to restrain the wind with the wind, or authority over the day of death; and there is no discharge in the time of war, and ^bevil will not deliver ¹those who practice it. 9 All this I have seen and applied my ¹mind to every deed that has been done under the sun wherein a man has exercised ^aauthority over another man to his hurt.

10 So then, I have seen the wicked buried, those who used to go in and out from the holy place, and they are ^asoon forgotten in the city where they did thus. This too is futility. 11 Because the ^asentence against an evil deed is not executed quickly, therefore ^bthe hearts of the sons of men among them are given fully to do evil. 12 Although a sinner does evil a hundred times and may ^alengthen his life, still I know that it will be ^bwell for those who fear God, who fear ¹Him openly. 13 But it will ^anot be well for the evil man and he will not lengthen his days like a ^bshadow, because he does not fear God.

14 There is futility which is done on the earth, that is, there are ^arighteous men to whom it ¹happens according to the deeds of the wicked. On the other hand, there are ^bevil men to whom it ²happens according to the deeds of the righteous. I say that this too is futility. 15 So I commended pleasure, for there is nothing good for ^aa man under the sun except to eat and to drink and to be merry, and this will stand by him in his ¹toils throughout the days of his life which God has given him under the sun.

16 When I ^agave my heart to know wisdom and to see the task which has been done on the earth (even though one should ^1bnever sleep day or night), 17 and I saw every work of God, I concluded that ^aman cannot discover the work which has been done under the sun. Even though man should seek laboriously, he will not discover; and ^bthough the wise man should say, “I know,” he cannot discover.

2 I counsel you to keep the command of the king because of the ^aoath before God by which you swore loyalty to him. 2+@Sam 21:7 3 Do not be in a hurry to ^aget out of his presence. Do not join in a malevolent matter, for the king will do whatever he pleases.

9 All this I have seen while applying my mind to every deed that is done under the sun. There is a time in which one man has exercised ^apower over others to their detriment.

10 So then, I have seen the wicked buried, those who used to go in and out of the holy place but did not thereby escape their doom, and they are praised in spite of their evil and soon ^aforgotten in the city where they did such things. This too is futility (vanity, emptiness) . 11 Because the ^asentence against an evil act is not executed quickly, ^bthe hearts of the sons of men are fully set to do evil. 12 Though a sinner does evil a hundred times and his life seemingly is ^aprolonged in spite of his wickedness, still I know that it will be ^bwell with those who reverently fear God, who fear and worship Him openly realizing His omnipresence and His power. Ps 37:11, 18, 19; Is 3:10, 11; Matt 25:34 13 But it will ^anot be well for the evil man, nor will he lengthen his days like a ^bshadow, because he does not fear God. Matt 25:41

14 There is a meaningless and futile thing which is done on the earth: that is, there are ^arighteous men whose gain is as though they were evil, and ^bevil men whose gain is as though they were righteous. I say that this too is futility (meaningless, vain) . 15 Then I commended pleasure and enjoyment, because ^aa man without God has no better thing under the sun than to eat and to drink and to be merry, for this will stand by him in his toil through the days of his life which God has given him under the sun.

16 When I ^aapplied my mind to know wisdom and to see the activities of mankind that take place upon the earth—how some men seem to ^bsleep neither day nor night— 17 and I saw all the work of God, I concluded that ^aman cannot discover the work that is done under the sun. Even though man may labor in seeking, he will not discover; and more than that, ^bthough a wise man thinks and claims he knows, he will not be able to find it out. Deut 29:29; Rom 11:33
