Hijitos míos^a, os escribo estas cosas para que no pequéis^b. Y si alguno peca, Abogado¹ tenemos^c para con el Padre, a Jesucristo el justo^d. 2 Él mismo es la propiciación¹ por nuestros pecados^a, y nosolo por los nuestros, sino también por los del mundo entero^b. 3 Y en esto sabemos^a que hemos llegado a conocerle^b: si guardamos sus mandamientos^c. 4 El que dice: Yo he llegado^a a conocerle^b, y no guarda sus mandamientos, es un mentiroso^c y la verdad no está en él^d; 5 pero el que guarda su palabra^a, en él verdaderamente el amor de Dios se ha perfeccionado^b. En esto sabemos que estamos en Él^c. 6 El que dice que permanece en Él^a, debe¹ andar como Él anduvo^b.

7 Amados^a, no os escribo un mandamiento nuevo^b, sino un mandamiento antiguo, que habéis tenido¹ desde el principio^c; el mandamiento antiguo es la palabra que habéis oído. 8 Por otra parte¹, os escribo un mandamiento nuevo^a, el cual es verdadero en Él y en vosotros, porque las tinieblas van pasando^b, y la luz verdadera ya está alumbrando^c. 9 El que dice que está en la luz, y aborrece^a a su hermano^b, está aún¹ en tinieblas. 10 El que ama a su hermano, permanece en la luz y no hay causa de tropiezo en él^a. 11 Pero el que aborrece a su hermano, está en tinieblas^a y anda en tinieblas^b, y no sabe adónde va, porque las tinieblas han cegado sus ojos^c.

12 Os escribo a vosotros, hijos^1a, porque vuestros pecados os han sido perdonados por su nombre^b. 13 Os escribo a vosotros, padres, porque conocéis al que ha sido desde el principio^a. Os escribo a vosotros, jóvenes, porque habéis vencido^b al maligno^c. Os he escrito a vosotros, niños, porque conocéis al Padre^d. 14 Os he escrito a vosotros, padres, porque conocéis al que ha sido desde el principio^a. Os he escrito a vosotros, jóvenes, porque sois fuertes^b y la palabra de Dios permanece en vosotros^c y habéis vencido al maligno^d. 15 No améis al mundo^a ni las cosas que están en el mundo. Si alguno ama al mundo, el amor del Padre no está en él^b. 16 Porque todo lo que hay en el mundo, la pasión de la carne^a, la pasión de los ojos^b y la arrogancia de la vida^1c, no proviene del Padre, sino del mundo. 17 Y el mundo pasa^a, y también sus pasiones, pero el que hace la voluntad de Dios permanece para siempre.

18 Hijitos¹, es la última hora^a, y así como oísteis que el anticristo viene^b, también ahora han surgido muchos anticristos^c; por eso sabemos que es la última hora. 19 Salieron de nosotros^a, pero en realidad no eran de nosotros, porque si hubieran sido de nosotros, habrían permanecido con nosotros; pero salieron, a fin de que se manifestara¹ que no todos son² de nosotros^b. 20 Pero¹ vosotros tenéis unción^a del Santo^b, y todos vosotros lo sabéis^2c. 21 No os he escrito porque ignoréis la verdad, sino porque la conocéis^a y porque¹ ninguna mentira procede de la verdad^b. 22 ¿Quién es el mentiroso, sino el que niega que Jesús es el Cristo^1a? Este es el anticristo^b, el que niega al Padre y al Hijo. 23 Todo aquel que niega al Hijo tampoco tiene al Padre^a; el que confiesa al Hijo tiene también al Padre. 24 En cuanto a vosotros, que permanezca en vosotros lo que oísteis desde el principio^a. Si lo que oísteis desde el principio permanece en vosotros, vosotros también permaneceréis en el Hijo y en el Padre^b. 25 Y esta es la promesa que Él mismo nos hizo¹: la vida eterna^a. 26 Os he escrito estas cosas respecto a los que están tratando de engañaros^a. 27 Y en cuanto a vosotros, la unción que recibisteis de Él permanece en vosotros^a, y no tenéis necesidad de que nadie os enseñe; pero así como su unción os enseña acerca de todas las cosas^b, y es verdadera y no mentira^c, y así como os ha enseñado, permanecéis¹ en Él. 28 Y ahora, hijos^1a, permaneced en Él, para que cuando se manifieste^b, tengamos confianza^c y no nos apartemos de Él avergonzados^2d en su venida^3e. 29 Si sabéis que Él es justo^a, sabéis también que todo el que hace justicia es nacido¹ de Él^b.

3 ^aBy this we know that we have come to ^bknow Him, if we ^ckeep His commandments. 4 The one who says, “^aI have come to ^bknow Him,” and does not keep His commandments, is a ^cliar, and ^dthe truth is not in him; 5 but whoever ^akeeps His word, in him the ^blove of God has truly been perfected. ^cBy this we know that we are in Him: 6 the one who says he ^aabides in Him ^bought himself to walk in the same manner as He walked.

7 ^aBeloved, I am ^bnot writing a new commandment to you, but an old commandment which you have had ^cfrom the beginning; the old commandment is the word which you have heard. 8 ¹On the other hand, I am writing ^aa new commandment to you, which is true in Him and in you, because ^bthe darkness is passing away and ^cthe true Light is already shining. 9 The one who says he is in the Light and yet ^ahates his ^bbrother is in the darkness until now. 10 ^aThe one who loves his brother abides in the Light and there is no cause for stumbling in him. 11 But the one who ^ahates his brother is in the darkness and ^bwalks in the darkness, and does not know where he is going because the darkness has ^cblinded his eyes.

12 I am writing to you, ^alittle children, because ^byour sins have been forgiven you for His name’s sake. 13 I am writing to you, fathers, because you know Him ^awho has been from the beginning. I am writing to you, young men, because ^byou have overcome ^cthe evil one. I have written to you, children, because ^dyou know the Father. 14 I have written to you, fathers, because you know Him ^awho has been from the beginning. I have written to you, young men, because you are ^bstrong, and the ^cword of God abides in you, and ^dyou have overcome the evil one.

15 Do not love ^athe world nor the things in the world. ^bIf anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 16 For all that is in the world, ^athe lust of the flesh and ^bthe lust of the eyes and ^cthe boastful pride of life, is not from the Father, but is from the world. 17 ^aThe world is passing away, and also its lusts; but the one who ^bdoes the will of God lives forever.

18 Children, ^ait is the last hour; and just as you heard that ^bantichrist is coming, ^ceven now many antichrists have appeared; from this we know that it is the last hour. 19 ^aThey went out from us, but they were not really of us; for if they had been of us, they would have remained with us; but they went out, ^bso that ¹it would be shown that they all are not of us. 20 ¹But you have an ^aanointing from ^bthe Holy One, and ^cyou all know. 21 I have not written to you because you do not know the truth, but ^abecause you do know it, and ¹because no lie is ^bof the truth. 22 Who is the liar but ^athe one who denies that Jesus is the ¹Christ? This is ^bthe antichrist, the one who denies the Father and the Son. 23 ^aWhoever denies the Son does not have the Father; the one who confesses the Son has the Father also. 24 As for you, let that abide in you which you heard ^afrom the beginning. If what you heard from the beginning abides in you, you also ^bwill abide in the Son and in the Father.

25 ^aThis is the promise which He Himself ¹made to us: eternal life.

26 These things I have written to you concerning those who are trying to ^adeceive you. 27 As for you, the ^aanointing which you received from Him abides in you, and you have no need for anyone to teach you; but as His anointing ^bteaches you about all things, and is ^ctrue and is not a lie, and just as it has taught you, ¹you abide in Him.

28 Now, ^alittle children, abide in Him, so that when He ^bappears, we may have ^cconfidence and ^dnot ¹shrink away from Him in shame ²at His ^ecoming. 29 If you know that ^aHe is righteous, you know that everyone also who practices righteousness ^bis ¹born of Him.

^aMy little children (believers, dear ones) , I am ^bwriting you these things so that you will not sin and violate God’s law. And if anyone sins, ^cwe have an ^dAdvocate who will intercede for us with the Father: Jesus Christ the righteous the upright, the just One, who conforms to the Father’s will in every way—purpose, thought, and action. 2 And He that same Jesus is ^athe propitiation for our sins the atoning sacrifice that holds back the wrath of God that would otherwise be directed at us because of our sinful nature—our worldliness, our lifestyle; and not for ours alone, but also ^bfor the sins of all believers throughout the whole world.

3 ^aAnd this is how we know daily, by experience that we have come to ^bknow Him to understand Him and be more deeply acquainted with Him: if we habitually ^ckeep focused on His precepts and obey His commandments (teachings) . 4 Whoever says, “^aI have come to ^bknow Him,” but does not habitually keep focused on His precepts and obey His commandments (teachings) , is a ^cliar, and ^dthe truth of the divine word is not in him. 5 But whoever habitually ^akeeps His word and obeys His precepts and treasures His message in its entirety, in him the ^blove of God has truly been perfected it is completed and has reached maturity. ^cBy this we know for certain that we are in Him: 6 whoever says he ^alives in Christ that is, whoever says he has accepted Him as God and Savior ^bought as a moral obligation to walk and conduct himself just as He walked and conducted Himself.

7 ^aBeloved, I am ^bnot writing a new commandment to you, but an old commandment which you have had ^cfrom the beginning; the old commandment is the message which you have heard before from us. John 13:34, 35 8 On the other hand, I am writing ^aa new commandment to you, which is true and realized in Christ and in you, because ^bthe darkness of moral blindness is clearing away and ^cthe true Light the revelation of God in Christ is already shining. 9 The one who says he is in the Light in consistent fellowship with Christ and yet ¹habitually ^ahates (works against) his ^bbrother in Christ is in the darkness until now. 10 ^aThe one who ¹loves and unselfishly seeks the best for his believing brother lives in the Light, and in him there is no occasion for stumbling or offense he does not hurt the cause of Christ or lead others to sin. 11 But the one who habitually ^ahates (works against) his brother in Christ is in spiritual darkness and is ^bwalking in the darkness, and does not know where he is going because the darkness has ^cblinded his eyes.

12 I am writing to you, ^alittle children (believers, dear ones) , because ^byour sins have been forgiven for His name’s sake you have been pardoned and released from spiritual debt through His name because you have confessed His name, believing in Him as Savior. 13 I am writing to you, fathers those believers who are spiritually mature, because you know Him ^awho has existed from the beginning. I am writing to you, young men those believers who are growing in spiritual maturity, because ^byou have been victorious and have overcome ^cthe evil one. I have written to you, children those who are new believers, those spiritually immature, because ^dyou have come to know the Father. 14 I have written to you, fathers, because you know Him ^awho has existed from the beginning. I have written to you, young men, because you are ^bstrong and vigorous, and the ^cword of God remains always in you, and ^dyou have been victorious over the evil one by accepting Jesus as Savior.

15 Do not love ^athe world of sin that opposes God and His precepts, nor the things that are in the world. ^bIf anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 16 For all that is in the world—^athe lust and sensual craving of the flesh and ^bthe lust and longing of the eyes and ^cthe boastful pride of life pretentious confidence in one’s resources or in the stability of earthly things—these do not come from the Father, but are from the world. 17 ^aThe world is passing away, and with it its lusts the shameful pursuits and ungodly longings; but the one who ^bdoes the will of God and carries out His purposes lives forever.

18 Children, ^ait is the last hour the end of this age; and just as you heard that the ^bantichrist is coming the one who will oppose Christ and attempt to replace Him, ^ceven now many antichrists (false teachers) have appeared, which confirms our belief that it is the last hour. 19 ^aThey went out from us seeming at first to be Christians, but they were not really of us because they were not truly born again and spiritually transformed; for if they had been of us, they would have remained with us; but they went out teaching false doctrine, ^bso that it would be clearly shown that none of them are of us. 20 But you have an ^aanointing from ^bthe Holy One you have been set apart, specially gifted and prepared by the Holy Spirit, and ^call of you know the truth because He teaches us, illuminates our minds, and guards us from error. 21 I have not written to you because you do not know the truth, but ^abecause you do know it, and because no lie nothing false, no deception is ^bof the truth. 22 Who is the liar but ^athe one who denies that Jesus is the Christ (the Messiah, the Anointed) ? This is ^bthe antichrist the enemy and antagonist of Christ, the one who denies and consistently refuses to acknowledge the Father and the Son. 23 ^aWhoever denies and repudiates the Son does not have the Father; the one who confesses and acknowledges the Son has the Father also. 24 As for you, let that remain in you keeping in your hearts that message of salvation which you heard ^afrom the beginning. If what you heard from the beginning remains in you, you too ^bwill remain in the Son and in the Father forever.

25 ^aThis is the promise which He Himself promised us—eternal life.

26 These things I have written to you with reference to those who are trying to ^adeceive you seducing you and leading you away from the truth and sound doctrine. 27 As for you, the ^aanointing the special gift, the preparation which you received from Him remains permanently in you, and you have no need for anyone to teach you. But just as His anointing ^bteaches you giving you insight through the presence of the Holy Spirit about all things, and is ^ctrue and is not a lie, and just as His anointing has taught you, ¹you must remain in Him being rooted in Him, knit to Him.

28 Now, ^alittle children (believers, dear ones) , remain in Him with unwavering faith, so that when He ^bappears at His return, we may have perfect ^cconfidence and ^dnot be ashamed and shrink away from Him at His ^ecoming. 29 If you know that ^aHe is absolutely righteous, you know for certain that everyone who practices righteousness doing what is right and conforming to God’s will ^bhas been born of Him.
