Y sucedió que en el año cuarto del rey Darío vino la palabra del SEÑOR a Zacarías el cuarto día del mes noveno, Quisleu^a. 2 La aldea de Betel había enviado a Sarezer, a Regem-melec y a sus hombres a implorar el favor¹ del SEÑOR^a, 3 y a hablar a los sacerdotes que eran de la casa del SEÑOR de los ejércitos, y a los profetas, diciendo: ¿Debemos llorar^a en el mes quinto^b y abstenernos como lo hemos¹ hecho durante tantos años? 4 Entonces vino a mí la palabra del SEÑOR de los ejércitos, diciendo: 5 Habla a todo el pueblo de la tierra y a los sacerdotes, y di¹: «Cuando ayunabais y os lamentabais en el quinto y el séptimo mes durante² estos setenta años^a, ¿ayunabais en verdad por mí^b? 6 Y cuando coméis y bebéis, ¿no coméis y bebéis para vosotros mismos?¹ 7 ¿No son estas las palabras que el SEÑOR proclamó^a por medio¹ de los antiguos profetas, cuando Jerusalén estaba habitada y próspera^2b con sus ciudades a su alrededor, y el Neguev^3c y la tierra baja⁴ estaban habitados?».

8 Entonces vino la palabra del SEÑOR a Zacarías, diciendo: 9 Así ha dicho el SEÑOR de los ejércitos¹: Juicio verdadero juzgad^a, y misericordia y compasión practicad cada uno con su hermano^b. 10 «No oprimáis a la viuda, al huérfano, al extranjero ni al pobre^a, ni traméis el mal en vuestros corazones unos contra otros^b». 11 Pero ellos rehusaron escuchar y volvieron la espalda¹ rebelde^a y se taparon² los oídos para no oír^b. 12 Y endurecieron sus corazones^a como el diamante^1b para no oír la ley ni las palabras que el SEÑOR de los ejércitos había enviado por su Espíritu, por medio² de los antiguos profetas^c; vino, pues, gran enojo de parte del SEÑOR^d de los ejércitos. 13 Y sucedió que, como yo¹ había clamado y ellos no habían querido escuchar^a, así ellos clamaron y yo no quise escuchar^b—dice el SEÑOR de los ejércitos— 14 sino que los dispersé en torbellino entre¹ todas las naciones^a que no conocían^b. Y la tierra fue desolada tras ellos^c, sin que nadie fuera ni viniera^2d; convirtieron la tierra deseable en desolación^e.

In the fourth year of the reign of King Darius of Persia, the word of the LORD came to Zechariah on the fourth day of the ninth month, which is ^aChislev (Dec 7, 518 B.C.). 2 Now the people of Bethel had sent Sharezer and Regem-melech and their men to ^aseek the favor of the LORD, 3 speaking to the ^apriests who belong to the house of the LORD of hosts and to the prophets, saying, “ Now that I am returned from exile shall I weep in the ^bfifth month mourning the destruction of the temple, and fast as I have done these many years in Babylon?” 4 Then the word of the LORD of hosts came to me (Zechariah) , saying, 5 “Speak to all the people of the land and to the priests, saying, ‘When you fasted and mourned in the fifth and seventh months these ^aseventy years that you were in exile, was it actually for ^bMe that you fasted? 6 When you eat and when you drink, do you not eat for yourselves and do you not drink for yourselves to satisfy your own needs? 7 Should you not hear the words which the LORD ^aproclaimed by the former prophets, when Jerusalem was inhabited and ^bprosperous along with her cities around her, and the ^cSouth (the Negev) and the foothills were inhabited?’”

8 Then the word of the LORD came to Zechariah, saying, 9 “Thus has the LORD of hosts said, ‘^aDispense true justice and practice ^bkindness and compassion, to each other; 10 and ^ado not oppress or exploit the widow or the fatherless, the stranger or the poor; and do ^bnot devise or even imagine evil in your hearts against one another.’ 11 But they ^arefused to listen and pay attention and ^bturned a stubborn shoulder stiffening themselves in resistance and ^cstopped up their ears. 12 They made their ^ahearts hard like ^bflint, so that they could not hear the law and the ^cwords which the LORD of hosts had sent by His Spirit through the ^dformer prophets. Therefore great ^ewrath came from the LORD of hosts. 13 And just as ^aHe called and they would not listen, so ^bthey called and I would not listen,” says the LORD of hosts; 14 “but I ^ascattered them with a ^bstorm wind among all the nations whom they have not known. Thus the land was ^cdesolate after they had gone, so that ^dno one passed through or returned, for they by their sins ^ehad made the pleasant land desolate and deserted.”
