2 ^aComo está escrito en el profeta Isaías:HE AQUÍ, YO ENVÍO MI MENSAJERO DELANTE DE TU FAZ,EL CUAL PREPARARÁ TU CAMINO^b.

4 Juan el Bautista apareció en el desierto predicando¹ el bautismo de arrepentimiento^a para el perdón de pecados^b. 5 Y acudía a él toda la región de Judea, y toda la gente de Jerusalén, y confesando sus pecados, eran bautizados por él en el río Jordán. 6 Juan estaba vestido de pelo de camello, tenía¹ un cinto de cuero^a a la cintura, y comía langostas² y miel silvestre. 7 Y predicaba¹, diciendo: Tras mí viene uno que es más poderoso que yo, a quien no soy digno de desatar, inclinándome, la correa de sus sandalias. 8 Yo os bauticé con¹ agua, pero Él os bautizará con² el Espíritu Santo.

9 ^aY sucedió en aquellos días que Jesús vino de Nazaret^b de Galilea, y fue bautizado por Juan en el Jordán. 10 E inmediatamente, al salir del agua, vio que los cielos se abrían, y que el Espíritu como paloma descendía sobre Él; 11 y vino una voz de los cielos, que decía: Tú eres mi Hijo amado, en ti me he complacido^a.

12 ^aEnseguida el Espíritu le impulsó* a ir al desierto. 13 Y estuvo en el desierto cuarenta días, siendo tentado por Satanás^a; y estaba entre las fieras, y los ángeles le servían.

14 Después que Juan había sido encarcelado¹, Jesús vino a Galilea^a proclamando el evangelio^b de Dios, 15 y diciendo: El tiempo se ha cumplido^a y el reino de Dios se ha acercado; arrepentíos y creed^1b en el evangelio.

16 ^aMientras caminaba junto al mar de Galilea, vio a Simón y a Andrés, hermano de Simón, echando una red en el mar, porque eran pescadores. 17 Y Jesús les dijo: Seguidme, y yo haré que seáis pescadores de hombres. 18 Y dejando al instante las redes, le siguieron. 19 Yendo un poco más adelante vio a Jacobo¹, el hijo de Zebedeo, y a su hermano Juan, los cuales estaban también en la barca, remendando las redes. 20 Y al instante los llamó; y ellos, dejando a su padre Zebedeo en la barca con los jornaleros, se fueron tras Él.

21 ^aEntraron* en Capernaúm; y enseguida, en el día de reposo entrando Jesús en la sinagoga comenzó a enseñar^b. 22 Y se admiraban de su enseñanza^a; porque les enseñaba como quien tiene autoridad, y no como los escribas. 23 Y he aquí¹ estaba en la sinagoga de ellos un hombre con un espíritu inmundo, el cual comenzó a gritar, 24 diciendo: ¿Qué tenemos que ver contigo^1a, Jesús de Nazaret^2b? ¿Has venido a destruirnos? Yo sé quién eres: el Santo de Dios^c. 25 Jesús lo reprendió, diciendo: ¡Cállate, y sal de él! 26 Entonces el espíritu inmundo, causándole convulsiones, gritó a gran voz y salió de él. 27 Y todos se asombraron^a de tal manera que discutían entre sí, diciendo: ¿Qué es esto? ¡Una enseñanza nueva con autoridad! Él manda aun a los espíritus inmundos y le obedecen. 28 Y enseguida su fama se extendió por todas partes, por toda la región alrededor de Galilea.

29 ^aInmediatamente después de haber salido de la sinagoga, fueron¹ a casa de Simón^b y Andrés, con Jacobo² y Juan. 30 Y la suegra de Simón yacía enferma con fiebre; y enseguida le hablaron* de ella. 31 Jesús se le acercó, y tomándola de la mano la levantó, y la fiebre la dejó; y ella les servía.

32 ^aA la caída de la tarde, después de la puesta del sol^b, le trajeron todos los que estaban enfermos y los endemoniados^c. 33 Y toda la ciudad^a se había amontonado a la puerta. 34 Y sanó a muchos que estaban enfermos de diversas enfermedades^a, y expulsó muchos demonios; y no dejaba hablar a los demonios, porque ellos sabían quién era Él¹.

35 ^aLevantándose muy de mañana, cuando todavía estaba oscuro, salió, y se fue a un lugar solitario, y allí oraba^b. 36 Y Simón y sus compañeros salieron a buscarle; 37 le encontraron y le dijeron*: Todos te buscan. 38 Y Él les dijo*: Vamos a otro lugar, a los pueblos vecinos, para que predique¹ también allí, porque para eso he venido. 39 Y fue por toda Galilea, predicando¹ en sus sinagogas^a y expulsando demonios.

40 ^aY vino* a Él un leproso rogándole, y arrodillándose le dijo¹: Si quieres, puedes limpiarme^b. 41 Movido a compasión, extendiendo Jesús la mano, lo tocó, y le dijo*: Quiero; sé limpio. 42 Y al instante la lepra lo dejó y quedó limpio. 43 Entonces Jesús lo amonestó severamente y enseguida lo despidió, 44 y le dijo*: Mira, no digas nada a nadie, sino ve, muéstrate al sacerdote y ofrece por tu limpieza lo que Moisés ordenó, para testimonio a ellos^a. 45 Pero él, en cuanto salió, comenzó a proclamarlo abiertamente¹ y a divulgar el hecho^a, a tal punto que Jesús² ya no podía entrar públicamente en ninguna ciudad, sino que se quedaba fuera en lugares despoblados; y venían a Él de todas partes^b.

4 ¹John the Baptist appeared in the wilderness ^apreaching a baptism of repentance for the ^bforgiveness of sins that is, requiring a change of one’s old way of thinking, turning away from sin and seeking God and His righteousness. 5 And all the country of Judea and all the people of Jerusalem were continually going out to him; and they were being baptized by him in the Jordan River, as they confessed their sins. 6 John wore clothing made of camel’s hair and had ^aa wide leather ¹band around his waist, and he ate locusts and wild honey. Lev 11:22; 2+@Kin 1:8 7 And he was preaching, saying, “After me comes He who is mightier more powerful, more noble than I, and I am not worthy to stoop down and untie the straps of His sandals even as His slave. 8 As for me, I baptized you who came to me with water only; but He will baptize you who truly repent ¹with the Holy Spirit.”

9 ^aIn those days Jesus ^bcame from Nazareth of Galilee and was baptized by John in the Jordan. Matt 3:13-17; Luke 3:21, 22; John 1:32 10 ¹Immediately coming up out of the water, he (John) saw the heavens torn open, and the ²Spirit like a dove descending on Him (Jesus) ; 11 and a ¹voice came out of heaven saying: “^aYou are My beloved Son, in You I am well-pleased and delighted!” Ps 2:7; Is 42:1

12 ^aImmediately the Holy Spirit forced Him out into the wilderness. 13 He was in the wilderness forty days being tempted to do evil by ^aSatan; and He was with the wild animals, and the angels ministered continually to Him.

14 ^aNow after John the Baptist was arrested and ¹taken into custody, Jesus went to Galilee, ^bpreaching the good news of the kingdom of God, 15 and saying, “^aThe appointed period of time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; ^brepent change your inner self—your old way of thinking, regret past sins, live your life in a way that proves repentance; seek God’s purpose for your life and believe with a deep, abiding trust in the good news regarding salvation.”

16 ^aAs Jesus was walking by the shore of the ¹Sea of Galilee, He saw Simon Peter and Simon’s brother, ²Andrew, casting a net in the sea; for they were fishermen. 17 And Jesus said to them, “¹Follow Me as My disciples, accepting Me as your Master and Teacher and walking the same path of life that I walk, and I will make you fishers of men.” 18 Immediately they left their nets and followed Him becoming His disciples, believing and trusting in Him and following His example. 19 Going on a little farther, He saw James the son of Zebedee, and his brother John, who were also in the boat mending and cleaning the nets. 20 Immediately Jesus called to them; and they left their father Zebedee in the boat with the hired workers, and went away to follow Him becoming His disciples, believing and trusting in Him and following His example.

21 ^aThey went into Capernaum, and immediately on the Sabbath ^bJesus went into the synagogue and began to teach. Luke 4:31-37 22 ^aThey were completely amazed at His teaching; because He was teaching them as one having God-given authority, and not as the scribes. 23 Just then there was a man in their synagogue with an unclean spirit; and he cried out terribly from the depths of his throat, 24 saying, “^1aWhat business do You have with us, Jesus of ^bNazareth? Have You come to destroy us? I know who You are—^cthe Holy One of God!” 25 Jesus rebuked him, saying, “Be quiet (muzzled, silenced) , and come out of him!” 26 The unclean spirit threw the man into convulsions, and screeching with a loud voice, came out of him. 27 They were all so ^aamazed that they debated and questioned each other, saying, “What is this? A new teaching with authority! He commands even the unclean spirits (demons) , and they obey Him.” 28 Immediately the news about Him spread everywhere throughout the district surrounding Galilee.

29 ^aAnd immediately they ^bleft the synagogue and went into the house of Simon Peter and Andrew, accompanied by James and John. Matt 8:14-17; Luke 4:38-41 30 Now Simon’s mother-in-law was lying sick with a fever; and immediately they told Him about her. 31 Jesus went to her, and taking her by the hand, raised her up; and the fever left her, and she began to serve them as her guests.

32 ^aNow when evening came, ^bafter the sun had set and the Sabbath Day had ended, in a steady stream they were bringing to Him all who were sick and those who were ^cunder the power of demons, 33 until the whole ^acity had gathered together at the door. 34 And Jesus ^ahealed many who were suffering with various diseases; and He drove out many demons, but would not allow the demons to speak, because they knew Him recognizing Him as the Son of God.

35 ^aEarly in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house, and went out to a secluded place, and ^bwas praying there. 36 Simon Peter and his companions searched everywhere, looking anxiously for Him, 37 and they found Him and said, “Everybody is looking for You!” 38 He replied, “Let us go on to the neighboring towns, so I may preach there also; that is why I came from the Father.” 39 So ^aHe went throughout Galilee, preaching the gospel in their synagogues and casting out demons.

40 ^aAnd a leper came to Him, begging Him and ^bfalling on his knees before Him, saying, “If You are willing, You are able to make me ¹clean.” Matt 8:2-4; Luke 5:12-14 41 Moved with compassion for his suffering, Jesus reached out with His hand and touched him, and said to him, “I am willing; be cleansed.” 42 The leprosy left him immediately and he was cleansed completely healed and restored to health. 43 And Jesus deeply moved admonished him sternly and sent him away immediately, 44 saying to him, “^aSee that you tell no one anything about this; but ^bgo, show yourself to the priest and ^coffer for your purification what Moses commanded, as proof to them that you are really healed.” Lev 13:45; 14:2-32 45 But he went out and began to ^aproclaim it freely and to ^bspread the news of his healing, to such an extent that Jesus could no longer openly enter a city where He was known, but stayed out in the unpopulated places; yet ^cpeople were still coming to Him from everywhere.
