Cántico de Moisés

Prestad atención, oh cielos, y dejadme hablar;y escuche la tierra^a las palabras de mi boca.2 Caiga como la lluvia mi enseñanza^a,y destile como el rocío^b mi discurso,como llovizna sobre el verde pradoy como aguacero sobre la hierba.3 Porque yo proclamo el nombre del SEÑOR^a;atribuid grandeza a nuestro Dios^b.4 ¡La Roca! Su obra es perfecta^a,porque todos sus caminos son justos¹^b;Dios de fidelidad^c y sin injusticia,justo y recto es Él.5 En forma corrompida se han¹ portado con Él.No son sus hijos^a, debido a los defectos de ellos;son una generación perversa y torcida^b.6 ¿Así pagáis al SEÑOR,oh pueblo insensato e ignorante^a?¿No es Él tu padre que te compró^b?Él te hizo^c y te estableció.7 Acuérdate de los días de antaño;considera los años de todas las generaciones.Pregunta a tu padre, y él te lo hará saber;a tus ancianos, y ellos te lo dirán^a.8 Cuando el Altísimo dio a las naciones su herencia,cuando separó los hijos del hombre¹^a,fijó los límites de los pueblossegún el número de los hijos de Israel^b.9 Pues la porción del SEÑOR es su pueblo;Jacob es la parte de su heredad^a.10 Lo encontró en tierra desierta,en la horrenda¹ soledad de un desierto^a;lo rodeó, cuidó de él,lo guardó como a la niña de sus ojos^b.11 Como un águila que despierta su nidada,que revolotea sobre sus polluelos^a,extendió sus alas y los tomó^b,los llevó sobre su plumaje.12 El SEÑOR solo^a lo guio,y con él no hubo dios extranjero^b.13 Lo hizo cabalgar sobre las alturas de la tierra,y comió el producto del campo^a;le hizo gustar¹ miel de la peña^b,y aceite del² pedernal^c,14 cuajada de vacas y leche de ovejas,con grosura de corderos,y carneros de raza de Basán y machos cabríos,con lo mejor del trigo^a;y de la sangre de uvas bebiste vino^b.

15 Pero Jesurún¹ engordó y dio coces(has engordado, estás cebado y rollizo^a);entonces abandonó a Dios^b que lo hizo^c,y menospreció a la Roca de su salvación^d.16 Le provocaron a celos con dioses extraños^a,con abominaciones le provocaron a ira^b.17 Ofrecieron sacrificios a demonios^a, no a Dios,a dioses que no habían conocido^b,dioses nuevos^c que vinieron recientemente,a los que vuestros padres no temieron.18 Despreciaste a la Roca^a que te engendró,y olvidaste al Dios que te dio a luz^b.

19 Y el SEÑOR vio esto, y se llenó de ira¹^aa causa de la provocación de sus hijos y de sus hijas^b.20 Entonces Él dijo: «Esconderé de ellos mi rostro,veré cuál será su fin^a;porque son una generación perversa^b,hijos en los cuales no hay fidelidad^c.21 »Ellos me han provocado a celo con lo que no es Dios;me han irritado^a con sus ídolos¹^b.Yo, pues, los provocaré a celos con los que no son un pueblo;los irritaré con una nación insensata^c,22 porque fuego se ha encendido en mi ira,que quema hasta las profundidades del Seol¹^a,consume la tierra con su fruto^b,e incendia los fundamentos de los montes.

23 »Amontonaré calamidades^a sobre ellos,emplearé en ellos mis saetas^b.24 »Serán debilitados por el hambre, y consumidos por la plaga¹^ay destrucción amarga^b;dientes de fieras enviaré sobre ellos^c,con veneno de serpientes que se arrastran en el polvo^d.25 »Afuera traerá duelo la espada^a,y dentro el terror,tanto al joven como a la virgen,al niño de pecho como al hombre encanecido^b.26 »Yo hubiera dicho: “Los haré pedazos^a,borraré la memoria de ellos de entre los hombres^b”,27 si no hubiera temido la provocación del enemigo^a,no sea que entendieran mal sus adversarios,no sea que dijeran: “Nuestra mano ha triunfado¹,y no es el SEÑOR el que ha hecho todo esto”».

28 Porque son una nación privada¹ de consejo,y no hay en ellos inteligencia^a.29 Ojalá que fueran sabios, que comprendieran esto^a,que discernieran su futuro¹^b.30 ¿Cómo es que uno puede perseguir a mil,y dos hacer huir a diez mil^a,si su Roca no los hubiera vendido^b,y el SEÑOR no los hubiera entregado?31 En verdad, su roca no es como nuestra Roca;aun nuestros mismos enemigos así lo juzgan¹^a.32 Porque la vid de ellos es de la vid de Sodomay de los campos de Gomorra;sus uvas son uvas venenosas,sus racimos, amargos^a.33 Su vino es veneno de serpientes,y ponzoña mortal¹ de cobras.

34 «¿No tengo yo esto guardado conmigo,sellado en mis tesoros^a?35 »Mía es la venganza y la retribución^a;a su tiempo el pie de ellos resbalará^b,porque el día de su calamidad está cerca^c,ya se apresura lo que les está preparado».36 Porque el SEÑOR vindicará a su pueblo^ay tendrá compasión de sus siervos^b,cuando vea que su fuerza¹ se ha ido,y que nadie queda, ni siervo ni libre.37 Dirá Él entonces: «¿Dónde están sus dioses^a,la roca en que buscaban refugio,38 los que comían la grosura de sus sacrificios,y bebían el vino de su libación^a?¡Que se levanten y os ayuden!¡Que sean ellos vuestro refugio^b!39 »Ved ahora que yo, yo soy el Señor¹^a,y fuera de mí no hay dios^b.Yo hago morir y hago vivir^c.Yo hiero y yo sano^d,y no hay quien pueda librar^e de mi mano.40 »Ciertamente, alzo a los cielos mi mano^a,y digo: Como que vivo yo para siempre,41 cuando afile mi espada flameante¹y mi mano empuñe la justicia^a,me vengaré de mis adversariosy daré el pago a los que me aborrecen^b.42 »Embriagaré mis saetas^a con sangre,y mi espada se hartará de carne,de sangre de muertos y cautivos^b,de los jefes¹ de larga cabellera del enemigo».43 Regocijaos, naciones, con su pueblo^a,porque Él vengará la sangre de sus siervos^b;traerá venganza sobre sus adversarios^c,y hará expiación por su tierra y su pueblo^d.

Se ordena a Moisés subir al monte Nebo

44 Entonces llegó Moisés y habló todas las palabras de este cántico a oídos del pueblo, él, con Josué¹, hijo de Nun^a. 45 Cuando terminó Moisés de hablar todas estas palabras a todo Israel, 46 les dijo: Fijad en vuestro corazón todas las palabras con que os advierto¹ hoy^a, las cuales ordenaréis a vuestros hijos que las obedezcan cuidadosamente², todas las palabras de esta ley^b. 47 Porque no es palabra inútil para vosotros; ciertamente es vuestra vida^a. Por esta palabra prolongaréis vuestros días en la tierra adonde vosotros vais, cruzando el Jordán a fin de poseerla^b.

48 ^aEn aquel mismo día, habló el SEÑOR a Moisés, diciendo: 49 Sube a estos montes^a de Abarim, al monte Nebo, que está en la tierra de Moab frente¹ a Jericó, y mira hacia la tierra de Canaán, la cual doy a los hijos de Israel en posesión. 50 Morirás en el monte al cual subes, y serás reunido a tu pueblo^a, así como murió tu hermano Aarón sobre el monte Hor, y fue reunido a su pueblo; 51 porque me fuisteis infieles en medio de los hijos de Israel^a en las aguas de Meriba de Cades, en el desierto de Zin^b, porque no me santificasteis en medio de los hijos de Israel. 52 Por tanto,solo de lejos verás la tierra^a, pero allí no entrarás, a la tierra que doy a los hijos de Israel^b.

The Song of Moses

“^aListen, O heavens, and I will speak;And let the earth hear the words of my mouth.2 “^aLet my teaching drop as the rain,My speech distill as the dew,^bAs the light rain upon the tender grass,And as the spring showers upon the herb.3 “^aFor I proclaim the name and presence of the LORD;^bAscribe greatness and honor to our God!4 “^aThe Rock! His work is perfect,^bFor all His ways are just;^cA God of faithfulness without iniquity (injustice) ,Just and upright is He.5 “^aThey (Israel) have acted corruptly toward Him.They are not His children, because of their moral defect;^bBut are a perverse and crooked generation.6 “Do you thus ^arepay the LORD,O ^bfoolish and unwise people?^cIs not He your Father who has acquired you as His own?He ^dhas made you and established you as a nation.7 “Remember the days of old,Consider the years of many generations.^aAsk your father, and he will inform you,Your elders, and they will tell you.8 “^aWhen the Most High gave the nations their inheritance,When He separated the sons of man,He set the boundaries of the peoples^bAccording to the number of the sons of Israel.9 “^aFor the LORD’S portion and chosen share is His people;Jacob (Israel) is the allotment of His inheritance.10 “^aHe found him in a desert land,In the howling wasteland of a wilderness;He kept circling him, He took care of him,He protected him as ^bthe ¹apple of His eye.11 “^aAs an eagle that protects its nest,That flutters over its young,^bHe spread out His wings and took them,He carried them on His pinions. Luke 13:3412 “So ^athe LORD alone led him;^bThere was no foreign god with him.13 “^aHe made him (Israel) ride on the high places of the earth,And he ate the produce of the field;^bAnd He made him suck honey from the rock,And olive ^coil from the flinty rock,14 Butter and curds of cows, and milk of the flock,With fat of lambs,And rams, the breed of Bashan, and goats,^aWith the finest of the wheat;And you drank wine, the ^bblood of grapes.

15 “^aBut Jeshurun (Israel) became fat and kicked at God.You became fat, thick, sleek, and obstinate!^bThen he abandoned God ^cwho had made him,And scorned ^dthe Rock of his salvation.16 “^aThey provoked Him to jealousy with strange gods by denying Him the honor and loyalty that is rightfully and uniquely His;^bAnd with repulsive acts they provoked Him to anger.17 “^aThey sacrificed to demons, not to God,^bTo gods whom they have not known,New ^cgods who came lately,Whom your fathers never feared.18 “You were unmindful of ^athe Rock who bore you,And you ^bforgot the God who gave you birth.

19 “^aThe LORD saw it, and rejected them,^bOut of indignation with His sons and His daughters.20 “Then He said, ‘I will hide My face from them,^aI will see what their end shall be;^bFor they are a perverse generation,^cSons in whom there is no faithfulness.21 ‘^aThey have made Me ¹jealous with what is not God;They have provoked Me to anger with their ^bidols.^cSo I will make them jealous with those who are not a people;I will provoke them to anger with a foolish nation.22 ‘^aFor a fire is kindled by My anger,And it burns to the depths of Sheol (the place of the dead, the nether world) ,It ^bdevours the earth with its yield,And sets on fire the foundations of the mountains.

23 ‘^aI will heap misfortunes on them;^bI will use My arrows on them.24 ‘^aThey will be wasted by hunger, and consumed by plague^bAnd a bitter destruction;^cAnd I will send the teeth of beasts against them,^dWith the venom of crawling things of the dust.25 ‘^aOutside the sword will bereave,And inside the chambers terror—^bFor both young man and virgin,For the nursing child and the man of gray hair.26 ‘I would have said, “^aI will cut them to pieces scattering them far away,I ^bwill remove the memory of them from men,”27 Had I not feared the provocation of the enemy,That their adversaries would misjudge,That they would say, “^aOur own hand has prevailed,And the LORD has not done all this.”’

28 “^aFor they are a nation devoid of counsel,And there is no understanding in them.29 “O ^athat they were wise, that they understood this,That they could discern ^btheir future and ultimate fate!30 “^aHow could one chase a thousand,And two put ten thousand to flight,Unless their ^bRock had sold them,And the LORD had given them up?31 “For their rock is not like our Rock,^aEven our enemies themselves judge this.32 “For their vine is from the vine of Sodom,And from the fields of Gomorrah;Their grapes are grapes of ^apoison,Their clusters, bitter.33 “Their wine is the venom of serpents,And the deadly poison of vipers.

34 ‘^aIs it not laid up in store with Me,Sealed up in My treasuries?35 ‘^aVengeance is Mine, and retribution,^bIn due time their foot will slip;^cFor the day of their disaster is at hand,And their doom hurries to meet them.’36 “^aFor the LORD will vindicate His people,^bAnd will have compassion on His servants,When He sees that their strength (hand) is gone,And none remains, whether bond or free.37 “And He will say, ‘^aWhere are their gods,The rock in which they took refuge?38 ‘^aWho ate the fat of their sacrifices,And drank the wine of their drink offering?^bLet them rise up and help you,Let them be your hiding place!39 ‘^aSee now that I, I am He,^bAnd there is no god besides Me;^cIt is I who put to death and I who give life.^dI have wounded and it is I who heal,^eAnd there is no one who can deliver from the power of My hand.40 ‘Indeed, ^aI lift up My hand to heaven,And say (swear an oath) , as I live forever,41 ^aIf I sharpen the lightning of My sword,And My hand takes hold of judgment,^bI will render vengeance on My adversaries,And I will repay those who hate Me.42 ‘^aI will make My arrows drunk with blood,^bAnd My sword will devour flesh,With the blood of the slain and the captives,From the heads of the leaders of the enemy.’43 “^aRejoice, O nations, with His people;^bFor He will avenge the blood of His servants,^cAnd will render vengeance on His adversaries,^dAnd will atone for His land and His people.”

44 Then Moses came and spoke all the words of this song in the hearing of the people, he and ¹^aJoshua the son of Nun. 45 When Moses had finished speaking all these words to all the people of Israel, 46 he said to them, “^aTake to heart all the words of warning which I am speaking to you today; and you shall command ^byour children to observe them carefully—to do all the words of this law. 47 For it is not an empty or trivial matter for you; indeed ^ait is your very life. By honoring and obeying ^bthis word you will live long in the land, which you are crossing the Jordan to possess.”

48 And ^athe LORD said to Moses that very same day, 49 “^aGo up to this mountain of the Abarim, Mount Nebo, which is in the land of Moab opposite Jericho, and look at the land of Canaan, which I am giving to the sons of Israel as a possession. 50 Then die on the mountain which you climb, and be ^agathered to your people in death, just as Aaron your brother died on Mount Hor and was gathered to his people, 51 ^abecause you broke faith with Me among of the sons of Israel at the waters of Meribah-kadesh, in the ^bWilderness of Zin, and because you did not treat Me as holy among of the sons of Israel. Num 20:8-12; 27:14 52 ^aFor you shall see the land opposite you from a distance, but ^byou shall not go there, into the land which I am giving to the children of Israel.”
