¹Y Salomón decidió² edificar una casa al nombre del SEÑOR^a, y un palacio real para sí³. 2 ¹Y designó² Salomón setenta mil hombres para llevar cargas, ochenta mil para labrar piedra en los montes y tres mil seiscientos para dirigirlos^a. 3 ^aEntonces Salomón envió un mensaje a Hiram¹, rey de Tiro, diciendo: Haz conmigo como hiciste con mi padre David, enviándole cedros para edificarle una casa donde habitar^b. 4 He aquí, voy a edificar una casa al nombre del SEÑOR mi Dios, para consagrársela, para quemar incienso aromático delante de Él^a, para colocar continuamente el pan de la proposición^b y para ofrecer holocaustos por la mañana y por la tarde^c, en los días de reposo^d, en las lunas nuevas y en las fiestas señaladas del SEÑOR nuestro Dios; esto será ordenanza perpetua en Israel. 5 Y la casa que voy a edificar será grande; porque nuestro Dios es grande, más que todos los dioses^a. 6 Pero ¿quién será capaz de edificarle una casa, cuando los cielos y los cielos de los cielos no pueden contenerle^a? ¿Quién soy yo para que le edifique una casa, aunquesolo sea para quemar incienso delante de Él? 7 Ahora pues, envíame un hombre diestro para trabajar en oro, en plata, en bronce, en hierro, y en material de púrpura, carmesí y violeta, y que sepa hacer grabados, para trabajar con los expertos que tengo^1a en Judá y en Jerusalén, los cuales mi padre David proveyó^b. 8 Envíame también del Líbano madera de cedro, ciprés y sándalo^a, porque yo sé que tus siervos saben cortar la madera del Líbano; y he aquí, mis siervos trabajarán con tus siervos^b, 9 para que me preparen madera en abundancia, porque la casa que voy a edificar será grande y maravillosa. 10 Y he aquí, daré a tus siervos, los trabajadores¹ que cortan la madera, veinte mil coros² de trigo^a en grano³, y veinte mil coros de cebada, y veinte mil batos⁴ de vino, y veinte mil batos de aceite.

11 Entonces Hiram, rey de Tiro, respondió en una carta que envió¹ a Salomón: Por cuanto el SEÑOR ama a su pueblo, te ha hecho rey sobre ellos^a. 12 Y añadió Hiram: Bendito sea el SEÑOR, Dios de Israel, que ha hecho los cielos y la tierra^a, que ha dado al rey David un hijo sabio, dotado de¹ prudencia y entendimiento, que edificará una casa para el SEÑOR y un palacio real para sí^2b. 13 Y ahora envío a Hiram-abí, hombre hábil, dotado de¹ entendimiento, 14 hijo de una mujer de las hijas de Dan y cuyo padre es¹ de Tiro, el cual sabe trabajar en oro, en plata, en bronce^a, en hierro, en piedra, en madera y en material de púrpura, violeta, lino y carmesí, y sabe hacer toda clase de grabados y cualquier diseño² que se le asigne, para trabajar con tus expertos y con los expertos de mi señor David, tu padre. 15 Ahora pues, envíe mi señor a sus siervos el trigo, la cebada, el aceite y el vino^a, de los cuales ha hablado. 16 Y nosotros cortaremos toda la madera que necesites del Líbano, te la traeremos en balsas por el mar hasta Jope y tú la harás llevar a Jerusalén^a.

17 Y contó Salomón todos los extranjeros que estaban en la tierra de Israel^a, después del censo¹ que su padre David había tomado²; y se hallaron ciento cincuenta y tres mil seiscientos. 18 Puso setenta mil de ellos a llevar cargas, ochenta mil a labrar piedras en los montes y tres mil seiscientos como capataces para hacer trabajar al pueblo^a.

3 ^aThen Solomon sent word to ¹Hiram king of Tyre, saying, “^bAs you dealt with my father David and sent him cedars to build himself a house in which to live, please do the same for me. 4 Observe, I am about to build a house for the Name of the LORD my God, dedicated to Him, to ^aburn fragrant incense of sweet spices before Him, to set out ^bthe showbread continually, and to offer ^cburnt offerings morning and evening, ^don Sabbaths, New Moons, and on the festivals of the LORD our God, as ordained forever in Israel. 5 The house I am going to build will be great, for our God is ^agreater than all the gods. 6 But ^awho is able to build a house for Him, since the heavens and even the highest heavens cannot contain Him? Who am I to build a house for Him, except as a place to burn incense before Him? 7 Now ^asend me a man who is skilled to work in gold, silver, bronze, and iron, and in purple, crimson, and blue fabrics, and who knows how to make engravings, to work with the skilled men ^bwho are with me in Judah and Jerusalem, whom my father David provided. 8 ^aSend me also cedar, cypress, and ¹algum timber, for I know that your servants know how to cut timber in Lebanon. And indeed ^bmy servants will work with your servants 9 to prepare for me an abundance of timber, because the house I am about to build will be great and wonderful. 10 And ^aI will give to your servants who cut timber, 20,000 ¹measures of crushed wheat and 20,000 measures of barley, and 20,000 baths of wine and 20,000 baths of olive oil.”

11 Then Hiram, king of Tyre replied in a letter sent to Solomon: “^aBecause the LORD loves His people, He has made you king over them.” 12 Hiram said also, “Blessed be ^athe LORD, the God of Israel, who made heaven and earth, who has given King David a wise son, endowed with discretion and understanding, ^bwho will build a house for the LORD and a royal palace for himself.

13 “Now I am sending a skilled man, endowed with understanding, Huram-abi, 14 ^athe son of a ¹Danite woman and a Tyrian father. He is trained to work in gold, silver, bronze, iron, stone, and wood; in purple, blue, and crimson fabrics, and in fine linen. He is able to make any kind of engraving and to carry out any design given him. He will work with your skilled men and those of my lord, David your father. 15 Now then, let my lord send to his servants the wheat, the barley, the oil, and the wine of ^awhich he has spoken. 16 ^aWe will cut whatever timber you need from Lebanon and bring it to you on rafts by sea to Joppa, so that you may take it up to Jerusalem.”

17 Then Solomon took a count of all the aliens in the land of Israel, ^alike the census that his father David had taken; and they were found to be 153,600. 18 ^aHe assigned 70,000 of them to carry loads and 80,000 to quarry stone in the mountain, and 3,600 as overseers to make the people work.
