Juicio contra Jerusalén y Judá

Porque he aquí, el Señor, DIOS¹ de los ejércitos, quitará de Jerusalén y de Judáel sustento y el apoyo: todo sustento de pany todo sustento de agua^a;2 al poderoso y al guerrero,al juez y al profeta,al adivino y al anciano^a,3 al capitán de cincuenta y al hombre respetable,al consejero, al diestro artífice y al hábil encantador.4 Les daré muchachos por príncipes,y niños caprichosos gobernarán¹ sobre ellos^a.5 Y el pueblo será oprimido,el uno por el otro^a y cada cual por su prójimo^b;el joven se alzará contra el anciano,y el indigno contra el honorable.6 Cuando un hombre eche mano a su hermano^a en la casa de su padre, diciendo:Tú tienes manto, serás nuestro jefe,y estas ruinas estarán bajo tu mando¹,7 ese día el otro se indignará¹, diciendo:No seré vuestro sanador²^a,porque en mi casa no hay ni pan ni manto;no debéis nombrarme jefe del pueblo.8 Pues Jerusalén ha tropezado y Judá ha caído^a,porque su lengua y sus obras están contra el SEÑOR^b,rebelándose contra su gloriosa presencia¹^c.9 La expresión de su rostro¹ testifica contra ellos,y como Sodoma^a publican su pecado;no lo encubren.¡Ay de ellos²!,porque han traído mal sobre sí mismos^b.10 Decid a los justos que les irá bien^a,porque el fruto de sus obras comerán.11 ¡Ay del impío! Le irá mal,porque lo que él merece¹ se le hará^a.12 ¡Oh pueblo mío! Sus opresores son muchachos¹^a,y mujeres lo dominan.Pueblo mío, los que te guían te hacen desviar^by confunden el curso de tus sendas.

13 El SEÑOR se levanta para contender,está en pie para juzgar a los pueblos^a.14 El SEÑOR entra en juicio^a con los ancianos de su pueblo y con sus príncipes:Pues vosotros habéis devorado la viña^b,el despojo del pobre^c está en vuestras casas.15 ¿Qué pensáis al aplastar a mi pueblo^ay al moler la cara de los pobres?—declara el Señor, DIOS¹ de los ejércitos.

16 Además, dijo el SEÑOR: Puesto que las hijas de Sión son orgullosas,andan con el cuello erguido y con ojos seductores,y caminan con paso menudohaciendo tintinear las ajorcas en sus pies^a,17 el Señor herirá con tiña el cráneo de las hijas de Sión,y el SEÑOR desnudará sus frentes.18 Aquel día el Señor les quitará el adorno de las ajorcas, los tocados y las lunetas^a,19 los pendientes, los brazaletes y los velos,20 las redecillas^a, las cadenillas de los pies, las cintas, las cajitas de perfume y los amuletos,21 los anillos¹ y aretes de nariz^a,22 las ropas de gala, las túnicas, los mantos y las bolsas,23 los espejos, la ropa interior, los turbantes y los velos.24 Y sucederá que en vez de perfume aromático¹^a habrá podredumbre;en vez de cinturón, cuerda;en vez de peinado artificioso^b, calvicie^c;en vez de ropa fina, ceñidor de cilicio^d;cicatriz² en vez de hermosura.25 Tus hombres caerán a espada^a,y tus poderosos¹ en batalla.26 Sus puertas¹ se lamentarán y estarán de luto^a;y ella, desolada, se sentará en tierra^b.

God Will Remove the Leaders

Listen carefully, the Lord GOD of hosts ^ais removing from Jerusalem and from JudahBoth supply and support, the whole supply of breadAnd the whole supply of water;2 ^aThe brave man and the warrior He is also removing,The judge and the prophet,The diviner and the elder,3 The captain of fifty and the man of honor,The counselor and the expert artisan,And the skillful enchanter.4 And I will make mere ^aboys their princes,And capricious (impulsive, unpredictable) children will rule over them.5 And the people will be ^aoppressed,Each one by another, and each one by his ^bneighbor;The boy will be arrogant and insolent toward the elderAnd the vulgar (common) toward the honorable person of rank.6 When a man ^atakes hold of his brother in the house of his father, saying,“You have a robe, you shall be our judge and ruler,And this pile of ruins will be under your control,”7 He will protest on that day, saying,“I will not be a ¹^agovernor;For in my house there is neither bread nor clothing;You should not make me a judge and ruler of the people.”8 For ^aJerusalem has stumbled and Judah has fallen,Because their ^bwords and their actions are against the LORD,To ^crebel against His glorious presence and defiantly provoke Him.9 Their partiality testifies against them,They display their sin like ^aSodom;They do not even hide it.Woe (judgment is coming) to ¹them!For they have ^bbrought evil on themselves as a reward.10 Say to the ^arighteous that it will go well with them,For they will eat the fruit of their righteous actions.11 Woe (judgment is coming) to the wicked! It shall go badly with him,For ^awhat his hand has done shall be done to him.12 O My people! ^aChildren are their oppressors,And women rule over them.O My people! Your ^bleaders lead you astrayAnd confuse (destroy, swallow up) the direction of your paths.

God Will Judge

13 ^aThe LORD rises to contend,And stands to judge the people.14 The LORD ^aenters into judgment with the elders of His people and their princes,“For it is you who have ^bdevoured the vineyard with your oppression, you have robbed the people and ruined the country;The ^cplunder of the poor is in your houses.15 “What do you mean by ^acrushing My peopleAnd grinding the face of the poor?”Declares the Lord GOD of hosts.

Judah’s Women Denounced

16 Moreover, the LORD said, “Because the ^adaughters of Zion are proudAnd walk with outstretched necks and seductive (flirtatious, alluring) eyes,And trip along with mincing steps and an affected gaitAnd walk with jingling ¹anklets on their feet,17 Therefore the Lord will afflict the crown of the head of the daughters of Zion with scabs making them bald,And the LORD will expose their foreheads (send them into captivity) .”

18 In that day the Lord will take away the beauty of their anklets, braided caps, ^acrescent head ornaments, 19 dangling earrings, bracelets, and the hanging veils and scarves, 20 ^ahead wraps (turbans) , short, jingling ankle chains, sashes, perfume boxes, amulets (charms) , 21 signet finger rings, ^anose rings, 22 festival robes, outer tunics, shawls, handbags, 23 hand mirrors, fine linen undergarments, headbands, and veils covering the entire body.

24 Now it will come to pass that instead of the sweet ^afragrance of spices there will be the stench of rottenness;Instead of a belt, a rope;Instead of ^bwell-set hair, ^cbaldness;Instead of fine clothes, a ^drobe of sackcloth;And branding of captives by the scorching heat instead of beauty.25 Your men will ^afall by the swordAnd your mighty men in battle.26 And Jerusalem’s ^agates will lament (cry out in grief) and mourn as those who wail for the dead;And she, being ruined and desolate, will ^bsit upon the ground.

For behold, the Lord ¹GOD of armies ^ais going to remove from Jerusalem and JudahBoth supply and support, the entire supply of breadAnd the entire supply of water;2 ^aThe mighty man and the warrior,The judge and the prophet,The diviner and the elder,3 The captain of fifty and the esteemed person,The counselor and the expert artisan,And the skillful enchanter.4 And I will make mere ^aboys their leaders,And ¹mischievous children will rule over them,5 And the people will be ^aoppressed,Each one by another, and each one by his ^bneighbor;The youth will assault the elder,And the contemptible person will assault the one honored.6 When a man ^alays hold of his brother in his father’s house, saying,“You have a cloak, you shall be our ruler!And these ruins will be under your ¹authority,”7 He will ¹protest on that day, saying,“I will not be your ²^ahealer,For in my house there is neither bread nor cloak;You should not appoint me ruler of the people.”8 For ^aJerusalem has stumbled and Judah has fallen,Because their ¹^bspeech and their actions are against the LORD,To ^crebel against ²His glorious presence.9 ¹The expression of their faces testifies against them,And they ²display their sin like ^aSodom;They do not even conceal it.Woe to ³them!For they have ^bdone evil to themselves.10 Say to the ^arighteous that it will go well for them,For they will eat the fruit of their actions.11 Woe to the wicked! It will go badly for him,For ¹^awhat he deserves will be done to him.12 My people! Their oppressors ^atreat them violently,And women rule over them.My people! ^bThose who guide you lead you astrayAnd confuse the direction of your paths.

God Will Judge

13 ^aThe LORD arises to contend,And stands to judge the people.14 The LORD ^aenters into judgment with the elders and leaders of His people,“It is you who have ¹^bdevoured the vineyard;The ^cgoods stolen from the poor are in your houses.15 “What do you mean by ^acrushing My peopleAnd ¹oppressing the face of the poor?”Declares the Lord ²GOD of armies.

Judah’s Women Denounced

16 Moreover, the LORD said, “Because the ^adaughters of Zion are haughtyAnd walk with ¹heads held high and seductive eyes,And go along with mincing stepsAnd jingle the anklets on their feet,17 The Lord will afflict the scalp of the daughters of Zion with scabs,And the LORD will make their foreheads bare.”

18 On that day the Lord will take away the beauty of their anklets, headbands, ^acrescent ornaments, 19 dangling earrings, bracelets, veils, 20 ^aheaddresses, ankle chains, sashes, perfume boxes, amulets, 21 ¹finger rings, ^anose rings, 22 festive robes, outer garments, shawls, purses, 23 papyrus garments, undergarments, headbands, and veils.

24 Now it will come about that instead of ^abalsam oil there will be a stench;Instead of a belt, a rope;Instead of ^bwell-set hair, a ^cplucked-out scalp;Instead of fine clothes, a ^drobe of sackcloth;And branding instead of beauty.25 Your men will ^afall by the swordAnd your ¹mighty ones in battle.26 And her ¹^agates will lament and mourn,And she will ^bsit deserted on the ground.
