Un hombre de la casa de Leví^a fue y tomó por mujer a una hija de Leví. 2 Y la mujer concibió y dio a luz un hijo; y viendo que era hermoso¹, lo escondió por tres meses^a. 3 Pero no pudiendo ocultarlo por más tiempo, tomó una cestilla de juncos^1a y la calafateó con asfalto y brea. Entonces puso al niño en ella, y la colocó entre los juncos a la orilla del Nilo^b. 4 Y la¹ hermana^a del niño se puso a lo lejos para ver² qué le sucedería³. 5 Y la hija de Faraón bajó a bañarse al Nilo^a, y mientras sus doncellas se paseaban por la ribera del río, vio la cestilla entre los juncos y mandó a una criada suya para que la trajera.

6 Al abrirla, vio¹ al niño, y he aquí, el niño lloraba. Y le tuvo compasión, y dijo: Este es uno de los niños de los hebreos. 7 Entonces la¹ hermana del niño dijo a la hija de Faraón: ¿Quieres que vaya y te llame una nodriza de las hebreas para que te críe al niño? 8 Y la hija de Faraón le respondió: Sí, ve. Y la muchacha fue y llamó a la madre del niño. 9 Y la hija de Faraón le dijo: Llévate a este niño y críamelo, y yo te daré tu salario. Y la mujer tomó al niño y lo crió. 10 Cuando el niño creció, ella lo llevó a la hija de Faraón, y vino a ser hijo suyo^a; y le puso por nombre Moisés¹, diciendo: Pues lo he sacado de las aguas.

11 Y aconteció que en aquellos días, crecido ya Moisés^a, salió a donde sus hermanos y vio sus duros trabajos^1b; y vio a un egipcio golpeando a un hebreo, a uno de sus hermanos^c. 12 Entonces miró alrededor¹ y cuando vio que no había nadie, mató al egipcio^a y lo escondió en la arena. 13 Y al día siguiente salió y vio a¹ dos hebreos que reñían, y dijo al culpable²: ¿Por qué golpeas a tu compañero^a? 14 Y él respondió: ¿Quién te ha puesto de príncipe¹ o de juez sobre nosotros? ¿Estás pensando² matarme como mataste al egipcio^a? Entonces Moisés tuvo miedo, y dijo: Ciertamente se ha divulgado el asunto. 15 Cuando Faraón se enteró del¹ asunto, trató de matar a Moisés; pero Moisés huyó de la presencia de Faraón y se fue a vivir a² la tierra de Madián^a, y allí se sentó junto a un pozo^b.

16 Y el sacerdote de Madián^a tenía siete hijas, las cuales fueron a sacar agua y llenaron las pilas para dar de beber al rebaño de su padre^b. 17 Entonces vinieron unos¹ pastores y las echaron de allí, pero Moisés se levantó y las defendió, y dio de beber a su rebaño^a. 18 Cuando ellas volvieron a Reuel, su padre^a, él dijo: ¿Por qué habéis vuelto¹ tan pronto hoy? 19 Respondieron ellas: Un egipcio nos ha librado de mano de los pastores; y además, nos sacó agua y dio de beber al rebaño. 20 Y él dijo a sus hijas: ¿Y dónde está? ¿Por qué habéis dejado al hombre? Invitadlo a que coma algo¹. 21 Moisés accedió a morar con aquel hombre^a, y él dio su hija Séfora^b a Moisés. 22 Y ella dio a luz un hijo^a, y Moisés le puso por nombre Gersón¹, porque dijo: Peregrino² soy en tierra extranjera^b.

23 Y aconteció que pasado mucho tiempo¹, murió el rey de Egipto. Y los hijos de Israel gemían a causa de la servidumbre^a, y clamaron; y su clamor, a causa de su servidumbre, subió a Dios^b. 24 Oyó Dios su gemido, y se acordó Dios de su pacto^a con Abraham, Isaac y Jacob^b. 25 Y miró Dios a los hijos de Israel, y Dios los tuvo en cuenta^1a.

Now a ¹man of ^athe house of Levi the priestly tribe went and took as his wife a daughter of Levi. Ex 6:18, 20; Num 26:59 2 The woman conceived and gave birth to a son; and when she saw that he was especially ^abeautiful and healthy, she hid him for three months to protect him from the Egyptians. Acts 7:20; Heb 11:23 3 When she could no longer hide him, she got him a ^abasket (chest) made of papyrus reeds and covered it with tar and pitch making it waterproof. Then she put the child in it and set it among the ^breeds by the bank of the Nile. 4 ^aAnd his sister Miriam stood some distance away to find out what would happen to him.

5 Now the ¹daughter of Pharaoh came down ^ato bathe at the Nile, and she, together with her maidens walked along the river’s bank; she saw the basket among the reeds and sent her maid to get it, and she brought it to her. 6 When she opened it, she saw the child, and behold, the baby was crying. And she took pity on him and said, “This is one of the Hebrews’ children.” 7 Then his sister said to Pharaoh’s daughter, “Shall I go and call a ¹wet-nurse from the Hebrew women to nurse the child for you?” 8 And Pharaoh’s daughter said to her, “Go ahead.” So the girl went and called the child’s mother. 9 Then Pharaoh’s daughter said to her, “Take this child away and nurse him for me, and I will give you your wages.” So the woman took the child and nursed him. 10 And the child grew, and she brought him to Pharaoh’s daughter and ^ahe became her son. And she named him ¹Moses, and said, “Because I drew him out of the water.”

11 One day, ^aafter Moses had grown into adulthood, it happened that he went to his countrymen and looked with compassion at their ^bhard labors; and ^che saw an Egyptian beating a Hebrew, one of his countrymen. 12 He turned to look around, and seeing no one, he ^akilled the Egyptian and hid him in the sand. 13 He went out ^athe next day and saw two Hebrew men fighting with each other; and he said to the aggressor, “Why are you striking your friend?” 14 But the man said, “^aWho made you a prince and a judge over us? Do you intend to kill me as you killed the Egyptian?” Then Moses was afraid and said, “Certainly this incident is known.”

15 When ¹Pharaoh heard about this matter, he tried to kill Moses. Then ^aMoses fled from Pharaoh’s presence and took refuge in the land of ²Midian, where he sat down ^bby a well.

16 Now ^athe priest of Midian had seven daughters; and ^bthey came and drew water from the well where Moses was resting and filled the troughs to water their father’s flock. 17 Then shepherds came and drove them away, but ^aMoses stood up and helped them and watered their flock. 18 When they came to ^1aReuel (Jethro) their father, he said, “How is it that you have come back so soon today?” 19 They said, “An Egyptian saved us from the shepherds. He even drew water from the well for us and watered the flock.” 20 Then he said to his daughters, “Where is he? Why have you left the man behind? Invite him to have something to eat.” 21 ^aMoses was willing to remain with the man, and he gave Moses his daughter ^bZipporah to be his wife. 22 She gave birth to ^aa son, and he named him Gershom (stranger) ; for he said, “I have been ^ba stranger in a foreign land.”

23 Now it happened after a long time about forty years that the king of Egypt died. And the children of Israel (Jacob) ^agroaned and sighed because of the bondage, and they cried out. And ^btheir cry for help because of their bondage ¹ascended to God. 24 So ^aGod heard their groaning and God remembered ^bHis covenant with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob (Israel) . Gen 12:1-3; 15:18-21; 17:3-8, 21; 35:10-12 25 ^aGod saw the sons of Israel, and God took notice of them and was concerned about them knowing all, understanding all, remembering all. Ps 56:8, 9; 139:2

And she had pity on him and said, “This is one of the Hebrews’ children.” 7 Then his sister said to Pharaoh’s daughter, “Shall I go and call a woman for you who is nursing from the Hebrew women, so that she may nurse the child for you?” 8 Pharaoh’s daughter said to her, “Go ahead.” So the girl went and called the child’s mother. 9 Then Pharaoh’s daughter said to her, “Take this child away and nurse him for me, and I will give you your wages.” So the woman took the child and nursed him. 10 And the child grew, and she brought him to Pharaoh’s daughter and ^ahe became her son. 11 Now it came about in those days, ^awhen Moses had grown up, that he went out to his ¹fellow Hebrews and looked at their ^2bhard labors; and ^che saw an Egyptian beating a Hebrew, one of his ³fellow Hebrews. 12 So he ¹looked this way and that, and when he saw that there was no one around, he ^astruck and killed the Egyptian, and hid ²his body in the sand. 13 Now he went out ^athe next day, and behold, two Hebrews were ¹fighting with each other; and he said to the ²offender, “Why are you striking your companion?” 14 But he said, “^aWho made you a ¹ruler and a judge over us? Do you ²intend to kill me as you killed the Egyptian?” Then Moses was afraid and said, “Surely the matter has become known!”

15 When Pharaoh heard about this matter, he tried to kill Moses. But ^aMoses fled from the presence of Pharaoh and ¹settled in the land of Midian, and he sat down ^bby a well.
