En el año primero de Darío^a, hijo de Asuero, descendiente¹ de los medos, que fue constituido rey sobre el reino de los caldeos, 2 en el año primero de su reinado, yo, Daniel, pude entender en los libros el número de los años en que, por palabra del SEÑOR que fue revelada al profeta Jeremías, debían cumplirse las desolaciones de Jerusalén: setenta años^a. 3 Volví¹ mi rostro a Dios el Señor para buscarle en oración y súplicas, en ayuno, cilicio y ceniza. 4 Y oré al SEÑOR mi Dios e hice confesión y dije: Ay, Señor, el Dios grande y temible, que guarda el pacto y la misericordia^a para los que le aman y guardan sus mandamientos^b, 5 hemos pecado, hemos cometido iniquidad, hemos hecho lo malo^a, nos hemos rebelado^b y nos hemos apartado de tus mandamientos^c y de tus ordenanzas. 6 No hemos escuchado a tus siervos los profetas^a que hablaron en tu nombre a nuestros reyes, a nuestros príncipes, a nuestros padres y a todo el pueblo de la tierra. 7 Tuya es la justicia, oh Señor, y nuestra la vergüenza en el rostro, como sucede hoy a los hombres de Judá, a los habitantes de Jerusalén y a todo Israel^a, a los que están cerca y a los que están lejos en todos los países adonde los has echado^b, a causa de las infidelidades que cometieron contra ti^c. 8 Oh SEÑOR, nuestra es la vergüenza del rostro, y de nuestros reyes, de nuestros príncipes y de nuestros padres, porque hemos pecado contra ti. 9 Al Señor nuestro Dios pertenece la compasión y el perdón^a, porque¹ nos hemos rebelado contra Él^b, 10 y no hemos obedecido la voz del SEÑOR nuestro Dios para andar en sus enseñanzas¹, que Él puso delante de nosotros por medio² de sus siervos los profetas^a. 11 Ciertamente todo Israel ha transgredido tu ley y se ha apartado, sin querer obedecer tu voz^a; por eso ha sido derramada sobre nosotros la maldición y el juramento que está escrito en la ley^b de Moisés, siervo de Dios, porque hemos pecado contra Él. 12 Y Él ha confirmado las palabras que habló contra nosotros y contra nuestros jefes que nos gobernaron¹, trayendo sobre nosotros gran calamidad^a, pues nunca se ha hecho debajo del² cielo nada como lo que se ha hecho contra Jerusalén^b. 13 Como está escrito en la ley de Moisés, toda esta calamidad ha venido sobre nosotros^a, pero no hemos buscado el favor¹ del SEÑOR nuestro Dios, apartándonos de nuestra iniquidad y prestando atención a² tu verdad^b. 14 Por tanto, el SEÑOR ha estado guardando esta¹ calamidad^a y la ha traído sobre nosotros; porque el SEÑOR nuestro Dios es justo en todas las obras que ha hecho, pero nosotros no hemos obedecido su voz^b. 15 Y ahora, Señor Dios nuestro, que sacaste a tu pueblo de la tierra de Egipto con mano poderosa^a, y te has hecho un nombre, como hoy se ve^b, hemos pecado, hemos sido malos. 16 Oh Señor, conforme a todos tus actos de justicia¹, apártese ahora tu ira y tu furor de tu ciudad, Jerusalén^a, tu santo monte^b; porque a causa de nuestros pecados y de las iniquidades de nuestros padres, Jerusalén y tu pueblo son el oprobio de todos los que nos rodean^c. 17 Y ahora, Dios nuestro, escucha la oración de tu siervo y sus súplicas, y haz resplandecer tu rostro^a sobre tu santuario desolado^b, por amor de ti mismo, oh Señor¹. 18 Inclina tu oído, Dios mío, y escucha. Abre tus ojos y mira^a nuestras desolaciones y la ciudad sobre la cual se invoca tu nombre^b; pues no es por nuestros propios méritos¹ que presentamos² nuestras súplicas^c delante de ti, sino por tu gran compasión. 19 ¡Oh Señor, escucha! ¡Señor, perdona! ¡Señor, atiende y actúa! ¡No tardes, por amor de ti mismo, Dios mío^a! Porque tu nombre se invoca sobre tu ciudad y sobre tu pueblo.

20 Aún estaba yo hablando, orando y confesando mi pecado y el pecado de mi pueblo Israel^a, y presentando¹ mi súplica delante del Señor^b mi Dios por el santo monte de mi Dios, 21 todavía estaba yo hablando en oración, cuando Gabriel, el hombre a quien había visto en la visión^a al principio, se me acercó, estando yo muy cansado¹, como a la hora de la ofrenda de la tarde^b. 22 Me instruyó, habló conmigo y dijo^a: Daniel, he salido ahora para darte sabiduría y entendimiento. 23 Al principio de tus súplicas se dio la orden¹, y he venido para explicártela^a, porque eres muy estimado²; pon atención a la orden y entiende la visión^b.

24 Setenta semanas¹ han sido decretadas sobre tu pueblo y sobre tu santa ciudad, para poner fin a² la transgresión, para terminar con el pecado³, para expiar la iniquidad^a, para traer justicia eterna^b, para sellar la visión y la profecía⁴, y para ungir el lugar santísimo⁵. 25 Has de saber y entender que desde la salida de la orden para restaurar y reconstruir a Jerusalén^a hasta el Mesías^b Príncipe^1c, habrá siete semanas y sesenta y dos semanas; volverá a ser edificada, con plaza² y foso, pero en tiempos de angustia. 26 Después de las sesenta y dos semanas el Mesías¹ será muerto² y no tendrá nada^3a, y el pueblo del príncipe que ha de venir destruirá la ciudad^b y el santuario. Su fin vendrá con inundación^c; aun hasta el fin habrá guerra; las desolaciones están determinadas⁴. 27 Y él hará un pacto firme con muchos por una semana, pero a la mitad de la semana pondrá fin al sacrificio y a la ofrenda de cereal. Sobre el ala de abominaciones¹ vendrá el desolador², hasta que una destrucción completa, la que está decretada, sea derramada sobre el desolador^3a.

In the first year of ^aDarius the son of ¹Ahasuerus, of Median descent, who was made king over the realm of the ²Chaldeans— 2 in the first year of his reign, I, Daniel, understood from the books the number of years which, according to the word of the LORD to ^aJeremiah the prophet, must pass before the desolations which had been pronounced on Jerusalem would end; and it was ^bseventy years. Jer 25:11, 12; 29:10 3 So I directed my attention to the Lord God to seek Him by prayer and supplications, with fasting, sackcloth and ashes. 4 I prayed to the LORD my God and confessed and said, “O Lord, the ^agreat and awesome God, who ^bkeeps His covenant and extends lovingkindness toward those who love Him and keep His commandments, 5 ^awe have sinned and committed wrong, and have behaved wickedly and have ^brebelled, ^cturning away from Your commandments and ordinances. 6 Further, we have not ^alistened to and heeded Your servants the prophets, who spoke in Your name to our kings, our princes and our fathers, and to all the people of the land.

7 “^aRighteousness belongs to You, O Lord, but to us ^bconfusion and open shame, as it is this day—to the men of Judah, to the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and to all Israel, those who are nearby and those who are far away, in ^call the countries to which You have driven them, because of the treacherous acts of unfaithfulness which they have committed against You. 8 O LORD, to us belong confusion and open shame—to our kings, to our princes, and to our fathers—because we have sinned against You. 9 To the Lord our God belong ^amercy and lovingkindness and forgiveness, for we have ^brebelled against Him; 10 and we have not obeyed the voice of the LORD our God by walking in His laws which He ^aset before us through His servants the prophets. 11 Yes, ^aall Israel has transgressed Your law, even turning aside, not obeying Your voice; so the ^bcurse has been poured out on us and the oath which is written in the Law of Moses the servant of God, because we have sinned against Him. Lev 26:14-45; Deut 28:15-68 12 And He has ^acarried out completely His threatening words which He had spoken against us and against our ^brulers the kings, princes, and judges who ruled us, to bring on us a great tragedy; for under the whole heaven there has ^cnot been done anything so dreadful like that which He commanded and was done to Jerusalem. 13 Just as it is written in the ^aLaw of Moses, all this tragedy has come on us. Yet we have ^bnot wholeheartedly begged for forgiveness and sought the favor of the LORD our God by ^cturning from our wickedness and paying attention to and placing value in Your truth. Deut 4:29; 28:15ff 14 Therefore the LORD has ^akept the tragedy ready and has brought it on us, for the LORD our God is uncompromisingly ^brighteous and openly just in all His works which He does—He keeps His word; and we have not obeyed His voice.

15 “And now, O Lord our God, who ^abrought Your people out of the land of Egypt with a mighty hand and who ^bmade for Yourself a name, as it is today—we have sinned, we have been wicked. 16 O Lord, in accordance with all Your righteous and just acts, please let Your ^aanger and Your wrath turn away from Your city Jerusalem, Your ^bholy mountain. Because of our sins and the wickedness of our fathers, Jerusalem and Your people have become an ^cobject of scorn and a contemptuous byword to all who are around us. 17 Now therefore, our God, listen to (heed) the prayer of Your servant (¹Daniel) and his supplications, and for Your own sake ^alet Your face shine on Your ^bdesolate sanctuary. 18 O my God, ^aincline Your ear and hear; open Your eyes and ^blook at our desolations and the city which is ^ccalled by Your name; for we are not ^dpresenting our supplications before You because of our own merits and righteousness, but because of Your great mercy and compassion. 19 O Lord, hear! O Lord, forgive! O Lord, listen and take action! ^aDo not delay, for Your own sake, O my God, because Your city and Your people are called by Your name.”

20 While I was still ^aspeaking and praying, and ^bconfessing my sin and the sin of my people Israel, and presenting my supplication before the LORD my God in behalf of the holy mountain of my God, 21 while I was still speaking in prayer and ¹extremely exhausted, the man ^aGabriel, whom I had seen in the earlier vision, came to me about the time of the ^bevening sacrifice. Dan 8:16 22 He instructed me and he talked with me and said, “O Daniel, I have now come to give you insight and wisdom and ^aunderstanding. 23 At the ^abeginning of your supplications, the command to give you an answer was issued, and I have come to tell you, for you are ^bhighly regarded and greatly beloved. Therefore consider the message and begin to ^cunderstand the meaning of the vision.

24 “Seventy ^aweeks of years, or 490 years ¹have been decreed for your people and for your holy city (Jerusalem) , to finish the transgression, to make an end of sins, to ^bmake atonement (reconciliation) for wickedness, to bring in ^ceverlasting righteousness (right-standing with God) , to seal up vision and prophecy and prophet, and to anoint the Most Holy Place. 25 So you are to know and understand that from the issuance of the ^acommand to restore and rebuild Jerusalem until the coming of the ^bMessiah (the Anointed One) , the ^cPrince, there will be seven weeks of years and sixty-two weeks of years; it will be built again, with a city plaza and moat, even in times of trouble. 26 Then after the sixty-two weeks of years the Anointed One will be ^acut off and denied His Messianic kingdom and have nothing and no one to defend Him, and the people of the other prince who is to come will ^bdestroy the city and the sanctuary. Its end will come with a ^cflood; even to the end there will be war; desolations are determined. Is 53:7-9; Nah 1:8; Matt 24:6-14 27 And he will enter into a binding and irrevocable covenant with the many for one week (seven years) , but in the middle of the week he will stop the sacrifice and grain offering for the remaining three and one-half years; and on the wing of ^aabominations will come one who makes desolate, even until the ^bcomplete destruction, one that is decreed, is poured out on the one who causes the horror.”

In the first year of ^aDarius the son of Ahasuerus, of Median descent, who was made king over the kingdom of the Chaldeans— 2 in the first year of his reign, I, Daniel, observed in the books the number of the years which was revealed as the word of the LORD to ^aJeremiah the prophet for the completion of the desolations of Jerusalem, namely, ^bseventy years. 3 So I gave my ¹attention to the Lord God, to seek Him by prayer and pleading, with fasting, sackcloth, and ashes. 4 I prayed to the LORD my God and confessed, and said, “Oh, Lord, the ^agreat and awesome God, who ^bkeeps His covenant and faithfulness for those who love Him and keep His commandments, 5 ^awe have sinned, we have done wrong, and ¹acted wickedly and ^brebelled, even ^cturning aside from Your commandments and ordinances. 6 Moreover, we have not ^alistened to Your servants the prophets, who spoke in Your name to our kings, our leaders, our fathers, and all the people of the land.

7 “^aRighteousness belongs to You, Lord, but to us ^1bopen shame, as it is this day—to the men of Judah, the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and all Israel, those who are nearby and those who are far away in ^call the countries to which You have driven them, because of their unfaithful deeds which they have committed against You. 8 ¹Open shame belongs to us, LORD, to our kings, our leaders, and our fathers, because we have sinned against You. 9 To the Lord our God belong ^acompassion and forgiveness, ¹because we have ^brebelled against Him; 10 and we have not obeyed the voice of the LORD our God, to walk in His ¹teachings which He ^aset before us through His servants the prophets. 11 Indeed, ^aall Israel has violated Your Law and turned aside, not obeying Your voice; so the ^bcurse has gushed forth on us, along with the oath which is written in the Law of Moses the servant of God, because we have sinned against Him. 12 So He has ^aconfirmed His words which He had spoken against us and against our ^1brulers who ruled us, to bring on us great disaster; for under the entire heaven there has ^cnot been done anything like what was done in Jerusalem. 13 Just as it is written in the ^aLaw of Moses, all this disaster has come on us; yet we have ^bnot ¹sought the favor of the LORD our God by ^cturning from our wrongdoing and ²giving attention to Your truth. 14 So the LORD has ^1akept the disaster in store and brought it on us; for the LORD our God is ^brighteous with respect to all His deeds which He has done, but we have not obeyed His voice.

15 “And now, Lord, our God, You who ^abrought Your people out of the land of Egypt with a mighty hand and ^bmade a name for Yourself, as it is this day—we have sinned, we have been wicked. 16 Lord, in accordance with all Your ¹righteous acts, let now Your ^aanger and Your wrath turn away from Your city Jerusalem, Your ^bholy mountain; for because of our sins and the wrongdoings of our fathers, Jerusalem and Your people have become an ^cobject of taunting to all those around us. 17 So now, our God, listen to the prayer of Your servant and to his pleas, and for ¹Your sake, Lord, ^alet Your face shine on Your ^bdesolate sanctuary. 18 My God, ^aincline Your ear and hear! Open Your eyes and ^bsee our desolations and the city which is ^ccalled by Your name; for we are not ^1dpresenting our pleas before You based on ²any merits of our own, but based on Your great compassion. 19 Lord, hear! Lord, forgive! Lord, listen and take action! For Your own sake, my God, ^ado not delay, because Your city and Your people are called by Your name.”

20 While I was still ^aspeaking and praying, and ^bconfessing my sin and the sin of my people Israel, and ¹presenting my plea before the LORD my God in behalf of the holy mountain of my God, 21 while I was still speaking in prayer, the man ^aGabriel, whom I had seen in the vision ¹previously, ²came to me ³in my extreme weariness about the time of the ^bevening offering. 22 And he instructed me and talked with me and said, “Daniel, I have come now to give you insight with ^aunderstanding. 23 At the ^abeginning of your pleas the ¹command was issued, and I have come to tell you, because you are ^2bhighly esteemed; so pay attention to the message and gain ^cunderstanding of the vision.

24 “Seventy ^1aweeks have been decreed for your people and your holy city, to ²finish the wrongdoing, to ³make an end of sin, to ^bmake atonement for guilt, to bring in ^ceverlasting righteousness, to seal up vision and ⁴prophecy, and to anoint the Most Holy Place. 25 So you are to know and understand that from the issuing of a ^1adecree to restore and rebuild Jerusalem, until ^2bMessiah the ^cPrince, there will be seven weeks and sixty-two weeks; it will be built again, with ³streets and moat, even in times of distress. 26 Then after the sixty-two weeks, the ¹Messiah will be ^acut off and have ²nothing, and the people of the prince who is to come will ^bdestroy the city and the sanctuary. And ³its end will come with a ^cflood; even to the end ⁴there will be war; desolations are determined. 27 And he will confirm a covenant with the many for one week, but in the middle of the week he will put a stop to sacrifice and grain offering; and on the wing of ^1aabominations will come the one who ²makes desolate, until a ^bcomplete destruction, one that is ³decreed, gushes forth on the one who ⁴makes desolate.”
