Y Saulo estaba de completo acuerdo con ellos en su muerte^a.Saulo persigue a la iglesia

En aquel día se desató una gran persecución en contra de la iglesia^b en Jerusalén, y todos fueron esparcidos^c por las regiones de Judea y Samaria^d, excepto los apóstoles. 2 Y algunos hombres piadosos sepultaron a Esteban, y lloraron a gran voz¹ por él. 3 Pero Saulo hacía estragos en la iglesia^a entrando de casa en casa, y arrastrando a hombres y mujeres, los echaba en¹ la cárcel^b.

4 Así que los que habían sido esparcidos^a iban predicando¹ la palabra^b. 5 Felipe^a, descendiendo a la ciudad de Samaria, les predicaba a Cristo¹. 6 Y las multitudes unánimes prestaban atención a lo que Felipe decía, al oír y ver las señales¹ que hacía. 7 Porque de muchos que tenían espíritus inmundos,estos salían de ellos^a gritando a gran voz; y muchos que habían sido paralíticos y cojos eran sanados^b. 8 Y había gran regocijo^a en aquella ciudad.

9 Y cierto hombre llamado Simón, hacía tiempo que estaba ejerciendo la magia^a en la ciudad y asombrando a la gente de Samaria, pretendiendo ser un gran personaje^b; 10 y todos, desde el menor hasta el mayor, le prestaban atención, diciendo: Este es el que se llama el Gran Poder de Dios^a. 11 Le prestaban atención porque por mucho tiempo los había asombrado con sus artes mágicas^a. 12 Pero cuando creyeron a Felipe, que anunciaba las buenas nuevas del reino de Dios^a y el nombre de Cristo Jesús, se bautizaban^b, tanto hombres como mujeres. 13 Y aun Simón mismo creyó; y después de bautizarse, continuó con Felipe, y estaba atónito al ver las señales^a y los grandes milagros^b que se hacían.

14 Cuando los apóstoles que estaban en Jerusalén^a oyeron que Samaria había recibido la palabra de Dios, les enviaron a Pedro y a Juan^b, 15 quienes descendieron y oraron por ellos para que recibieran el Espíritu Santo^a, 16 pues todavía no había descendido sobre ninguno de ellos^a;solo habían sido bautizados en el nombre del Señor Jesús^b. 17 Entonces les imponían^a las manos, y recibían el Espíritu Santo^b. 18 Cuando Simón vio que el Espíritu se daba por la imposición de las manos de los apóstoles, les ofreció dinero, 19 diciendo: Dadme también a mí esta autoridad, de manera que todo aquel sobre quien ponga mis manos reciba el Espíritu Santo. 20 Entonces Pedro le dijo: Que tu plata perezca¹ contigo, porque pensaste que podías obtener el don de Dios con dinero^a. 21 No tienes parte ni suerte^a en este asunto¹, porque tu corazón no es recto delante de Dios^b. 22 Por tanto, arrepiéntete de esta tu maldad, y ruega al Señor que si es posible se te perdone el intento de tu corazón^a. 23 Porque veo que estás en hiel de amargura y en cadena¹ de iniquidad^a. 24 Pero Simón respondió y dijo: Rogad vosotros al Señor por mí, para que no me sobrevenga nada de lo que habéis dicho.

25 Y ellos, después de haber testificado solemnemente^a y hablado la palabra del Señor^b, iniciaron el regreso a Jerusalén anunciando el evangelio^c en muchas aldeas de los samaritanos^d.

26 Un ángel del Señor^a habló a Felipe^b, diciendo: Levántate y ve hacia el sur, al camino que desciende de Jerusalén a Gaza^c. (Este es un camino desierto¹.) 27 Él se levantó y fue; y he aquí, había un¹ eunuco etíope^a, alto oficial de Candace, reina de los etíopes, el cual estaba encargado de todos sus tesoros, y había venido a Jerusalén para adorar^b. 28 Regresaba sentado en su carruaje, y leía al profeta Isaías. 29 Y el Espíritu dijo^a a Felipe: Ve y júntate a ese carruaje. 30 Cuando Felipe se acercó corriendo, le oyó leer al profeta Isaías, y le dijo: ¿Entiendes lo que lees? 31 Y él respondió: ¿Cómo podré, a menos que alguien me guíe? E invitó a Felipe a que subiera y se sentara con él. 32 El pasaje de la Escritura que estaba leyendo eraeste:^aCOMO OVEJA FUE LLEVADO AL MATADERO;Y COMO CORDERO, MUDO DELANTE DEL QUE LO TRASQUILA,NO ABRE ÉL SU BOCA.

34 El eunuco respondió a Felipe y dijo: Te ruego que me digas, ¿de quién dice esto el profeta? ¿De sí mismo, o de algún otro? 35 Entonces Felipe abrió su boca^a, y comenzando desde esta Escritura, le anunció el evangelio^b de Jesús^c. 36 Yendo por el camino, llegaron a un lugar donde había agua; y el eunuco dijo*: Mira, agua. ¿Qué impide que yo sea bautizado^a? 37 ¹Y Felipe dijo: Si crees con todo tu corazón, puedes. Respondió él y dijo: Creo que Jesucristo es el Hijo de Dios. 38 Y mandó parar el carruaje; ambos descendieron al agua, Felipe y el eunuco, y lo bautizó. 39 Al salir ellos del agua, el Espíritu del Señor arrebató^a a Felipe; y no lo vio más el eunuco, que continuó su camino gozoso. 40 Mas Felipe se encontró¹ en Azoto^2a, y por donde pasaba, anunciaba el evangelio en todas las ciudades^b, hasta que llegó a Cesarea^c.

^aSaul wholeheartedly approved of Stephen’s death.

And on that day a great and relentless persecution broke out against ^bthe church in Jerusalem; and the believers were all ^cscattered throughout the regions of Judea and ^dSamaria, except for the apostles. 2 Some devout men buried Stephen, and ¹mourned greatly over him expressing a personal sense of loss. 3 But ^aSaul began ravaging the church and assaulting believers; entering house after house and ^bdragging off men and women, putting them in prison.

4 Now those believers ^awho had been scattered went from place to place ^bpreaching the word the good news of salvation through Christ. 5 ^1aPhilip the evangelist went down to the city of Samaria and began proclaiming Christ (the Messiah, the Anointed) to them. Acts 6:5 6 The crowds gathered and were paying close attention to everything Philip said, as they heard the message and saw the miraculous signs which he was doing validating his message. 7 For ^aunclean spirits (demons) , shouting loudly, were coming out of many who were possessed; and many who had been ^bparalyzed and lame were healed. 8 So there was ^agreat rejoicing in that city.

9 Now there was a man named Simon, who previously practiced ^amagic in the city and amazed the people of Samaria, ^bclaiming to be someone great. 10 They all paid a great deal of attention to him, from the least to the greatest, saying, “^aThis man is what is called the Great Power of God!” 11 They were paying attention to him because for a long time he had mystified and dazzled them with his ^amagic. 12 But when they believed Philip as he ^apreached the ¹good news about the kingdom of God and the name of Jesus Christ, they were being ^bbaptized, both men and women. 13 Even Simon believed Philip’s message of salvation; and after being baptized, he continued on with Philip, and as he watched the attesting ^asigns and ^bgreat miracles taking place, he was constantly amazed.

14 When ^athe apostles in Jerusalem heard that the people of Samaria had accepted the word of God, they sent ^bPeter and John to them. 15 They came down and prayed for them ^athat they might receive the Holy Spirit; 16 for He had ^anot yet fallen on any of them; they had simply been ^bbaptized in the name of the Lord Jesus as His possession. 17 Then Peter and John ^alaid their hands on them one by one, and they ^breceived the Holy Spirit. 18 Now when Simon saw that the Spirit was given through the laying on of the apostles’ hands, he offered them money, 19 saying, “Give me this authority and power too, so that anyone on whom I lay my hands may receive the Holy Spirit.” 20 But Peter said to him, “May your money be destroyed along with you, because you thought you could ^abuy the free gift of God with money! 21 You have ^ano part or share in this matter, because your heart (motive, purpose) is not ^bright before God. Ps 78:37 22 So repent of this wickedness of yours, and pray to the Lord that, ^aif possible, this thought of your heart may be forgiven you. 23 For I see that you are ¹provoked by bitterness and ^abound by sin.” Deut 29:18; Is 58:6 24 But Simon answered, “^aPray to the Lord for me both of you, so that nothing of what you have said will come upon me.”

25 So, when Peter and John had given their ^atestimony and preached ^bthe word of the Lord, they started back to Jerusalem, ^cpreaching the good news about salvation in many ^dSamaritan villages along the way.

26 But ^aan angel of the Lord said to ^bPhilip, “Get up and go south to the road that runs from Jerusalem down to ^cGaza.” (This is a desert road). 27 So he got up and went; and ^athere was an Ethiopian eunuch a man of great authority, a court official of Candace, queen of the Ethiopians, who was in charge of all her treasure. He ^bhad come to Jerusalem to worship, 28 and he was returning, and sitting in his chariot he was reading the scroll of the prophet Isaiah. 29 Then ^athe Holy Spirit said to Philip, “Go up and join this chariot.” 30 Philip ran up and heard the man reading the prophet Isaiah, and asked, “Do you understand what you are reading?” 31 And he said, “Well, how could I understand unless someone guides me correctly?” And he invited Philip to come up and sit with him. 32 Now this was the passage of Scripture which he was reading:“^aLIKE A SHEEP HE WAS LED TO THE SLAUGHTER;AND AS A LAMB BEFORE ITS SHEARER IS SILENT,SO HE DOES NOT OPEN HIS MOUTH.

34 The eunuch replied to Philip, “Please tell me, about whom does the prophet say this? About himself or about someone else?” 35 Then Philip ^aspoke and ^bbeginning with this Scripture he ^cpreached Jesus to him explaining that He is the promised Messiah and the source of salvation. 36 As they continued along the road, they came to some water; and the eunuch exclaimed, “Look! Water! ^aWhat forbids me from being baptized?” 37 [¹Philip said to him, “If you believe with all your heart, you may.” And he replied, “I do believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.”] 38 And he ordered that the chariot be stopped; and both Philip and the eunuch went down into the water, and Philip baptized him. 39 When they came up out of the water, ^athe Spirit of the Lord suddenly took Philip and carried him away to a different place; and the eunuch no longer saw him, but he went on his way rejoicing. 40 But Philip found himself at ^1aAzotus, and as he passed through he ^bpreached the good news of salvation to all the cities, until he came to ^2cCaesarea Maritima.

^aNow Saul approved of putting ¹Stephen to death.

9 Now a man named Simon had previously been practicing ^amagic in the city and astonishing the people of Samaria, ^bclaiming to be someone great; 10 and all the people, from small to great, were paying attention to him, saying, “^aThis man is the Power of God that is called Great.” 11 And they were paying attention to him because for a long time he had astounded them with his ^amagic arts. 12 But when they believed Philip ^aas he was preaching the good news about the kingdom of God and the name of Jesus Christ, both men and women were being ^bbaptized. 13 Now even Simon himself believed; and after being baptized, he continued on with Philip, and as he observed ^asigns and ^bgreat miracles taking place, he was repeatedly amazed.

14 Now when ^athe apostles in Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the word of God, they sent them ^bPeter and John, 15 who came down and prayed for them ^athat they would receive the Holy Spirit. 16 (For He had ^anot yet fallen upon any of them; they had simply been ^bbaptized ¹in the name of the Lord Jesus.) 17 Then they ^abegan laying their hands on them, and they were ^breceiving the Holy Spirit. 18 Now when Simon saw that the Spirit was given through the laying on of the apostles’ hands, he offered them money, 19 saying, “Give this authority to me as well, so that everyone on whom I lay my hands may receive the Holy Spirit.” 20 But Peter said to him, “May your silver perish with you, because you thought you could ^aacquire the gift of God with money! 21 You have ^ano part or share in this ¹matter, for your heart is not ^bright before God. 22 Therefore, repent of this wickedness of yours, and pray to the Lord that, ^aif possible, the intention of your heart will be forgiven you. 23 For I see that you are ¹in the gall of bitterness and in ^athe ²bondage of unrighteousness.” 24 But Simon answered and said, “^aPray to the Lord for me yourselves, so that nothing of what you have said may come upon me.”

25 So, when they had solemnly ^atestified and spoken ^bthe word of the Lord, they started back to Jerusalem, and were ^cpreaching the gospel to many villages of the ^dSamaritans.

Water! ^aWhat prevents me from being baptized?”¹ 38 And he ordered that the ¹chariot stop; and they both went down into the water, Philip as well as the eunuch, and he baptized him. 39 When they came up out of the water, ^athe Spirit of the Lord snatched Philip away; and the eunuch no longer saw him, ¹but went on his way rejoicing. 40 But Philip ¹found himself at ^2aAzotus, and as he passed through he ^bkept preaching the gospel to all the cities, until he came to ^cCaesarea.
