Tú, pues, hijo mío^a, fortalécete en la gracia^b que hay en Cristo Jesús^c. 2 Y lo que has oído de mí^a en la presencia de muchos testigos^b, eso encarga^1c a hombres fieles^d que sean idóneos para enseñar también a otros^e. 3 Sufre penalidades^1a conmigo, como buen soldado^b de Cristo Jesús^c. 4 Ningún soldado en servicio activo se enreda^a en los negocios de la vida diaria, a fin de poder agradar al que lo reclutó como soldado. 5 Y también el que¹ compite como atleta^a, no gana el premio² si no compite de acuerdo con las reglas³. 6 El labrador que trabaja^a debe ser el primero en recibir su parte de los frutos¹. 7 Considera lo que digo, pues el Señor te dará entendimiento en todo. 8 Acuérdate de Jesucristo, resucitado de entre los muertos^a, descendiente de David^b, conforme a mi evangelio^c; 9 por¹ el cual sufro penalidades^a, hasta el encarcelamiento^b como un malhechor^c; pero la palabra de Dios^d no está presa^e. 10 Por tanto, todo lo soporto^a por amor a los escogidos^b, para que también ellos obtengan^c la salvación^d que está en Cristo Jesús^e, y con ella gloria eterna^f. 11 Palabra fiel esesta^a:Que si morimos con Él^b, también viviremos con Él;

14 Recuérdales esto, encargándoles^a solemnemente en la presencia de Dios, que no contiendan sobre palabras^b, lo cual para nada aprovecha y lleva a los oyentes a la ruina. 15 Procura con diligencia presentarte a Dios aprobado^a, como obrero que no tiene de qué avergonzarse, que maneja con precisión la palabra de verdad^b. 16 Evita^1a las palabrerías vacías y profanas^b, porque los dados a ellas, conducirán más y más a la impiedad², 17 y su palabra¹ se extenderá como gangrena²; entre los cuales están Himeneo y Fileto^a, 18 que se han desviado de la verdad diciendo que la resurrección ya tuvo lugar^a, trastornando así la fe de algunos^b. 19 No obstante, el sólido fundamento de Dios permanece^a firme, teniendo este sello^b: El Señor conoce a los que son suyos^c, y: Que se aparte de la iniquidad todo aquel que menciona el nombre del Señor^d. 20 Ahora bien, en una casa grande no solamente hay vasos de oro y de plata, sino también de madera y de barro, y unos para honra y otros para deshonra^a. 21 Por tanto, si alguno se limpia de estas cosas^a, será un vaso para honra, santificado, útil para el Señor, preparado para toda buena obra^b. 22 Huye, pues, de las pasiones juveniles^a y sigue¹ la justicia^b, la fe^c, el amor y la paz, con los que invocan al Señor^d con² un corazón puro^e. 23 Pero rechaza los razonamientos necios¹ e ignorantes^a, sabiendo que producen² altercados^3b. 24 Y el siervo del Señor^a no debe ser rencilloso, sino amable para con todos, apto para enseñar^b, sufrido, 25 corrigiendo tiernamente a los que se oponen^a, por si acaso Dios les da el arrepentimiento^b que conduce al pleno conocimiento de la verdad^c, 26 y volviendo en sí, escapen del lazo del diablo^a, habiendo estado cautivos de él^b para hacer su voluntad.

So you, my ^ason, ^bbe strong constantly strengthened and empowered in the grace that is to be found only in ^cChrist Jesus. 2 The things the doctrine, the precepts, the admonitions, the sum of my ministry ^awhich you have heard me teach ¹in the presence of ^bmany witnesses, ^centrust as a treasure to ^dreliable and faithful men who will also be capable and ^equalified to teach others. 3 ^aTake with me your share of hardship passing through the difficulties which you are called to endure, like a good ^bsoldier of ^cChrist Jesus. 4 No soldier in active service ^agets entangled in the ordinary business affairs of civilian life; he avoids them so that he may please the one who enlisted him to serve. 5 And if anyone ^acompetes as an athlete in competitive games, he is not crowned with the wreath of victory unless he competes according to the rules. 6 ^aThe hard-working farmer who labors to produce crops ought to be the first to receive his share of the crops. 7 Think over the things I am saying grasp their application, for the Lord will grant you insight and understanding in everything.

8 Remember Jesus Christ the ever-living Lord who has ^arisen from the dead, as the prophesied King ^bdescended from David king of Israel, ^caccording to my gospel the good news that I preach, Ps 16:10 9 for that gospel I am ^asuffering even to the point of ^bwearing chains like a ^ccriminal; but ^dthe word of God ^eis not chained or imprisoned! 10 For this reason ^aI am ready to patiently endure all things for ^bthe sake of those who are the elect (God’s chosen ones) , ^cso that they too may obtain the ^dsalvation which is in ^eChrist Jesus and with it the reward of ^feternal glory. 11 ^aThis is a faithful and trustworthy saying:^bIf we died with Him, we will also live with Him;

14 Remind the people of these facts, and solemnly ^acharge them in the presence of God to avoid ^bpetty controversy over words, which does no good, and upsets and undermines and ruins the faith of those who listen. 15 Study and do your best to ^apresent yourself to God approved, a workman tested by trial who has no reason to be ashamed, accurately handling and skillfully teaching ^bthe word of truth. 16 But ^aavoid all ^birreverent babble and godless chatter with its profane, empty words, for it will lead to further ungodliness, 17 and their teaching will spread like gangrene. So it is with ^aHymenaeus and Philetus, 18 who have deviated from the truth. They claim that ^athe resurrection has already taken place, and they undermine ^bthe faith of some. 19 Nevertheless, the ^afirm foundation of God which He has laid stands sure and unshaken despite attacks, bearing this ^bseal: “^cThe Lord knows those who are His,” and, “^dLet everyone who names the name of the Lord stand apart from wickedness and withdraw from wrongdoing.” Num 16:5; Is 26:13

20 Now in a large house there are not only ¹vessels and objects of gold and silver, but also vessels and objects of wood and of earthenware, and ^asome are for honorable (noble, good) use and some for dishonorable (ignoble, common) . 21 Therefore, if anyone cleanses himself from ^athese things which are dishonorable—disobedient, sinful, he will be a vessel for honor, sanctified set apart for a special purpose and, useful to the Master, ^bprepared for every good work. 22 ^aRun away from youthful lusts—pursue righteousness, ^bfaith, love, and peace with those believers who ^ccall on the Lord ^dout of a pure heart. 23 But have nothing to do with foolish and ignorant ^aspeculations useless disputes over unedifying, stupid controversies, since you know that they ^bproduce strife and give birth to quarrels. 24 ^aThe servant of the Lord must not participate in quarrels, but must be kind to everyone even-tempered, preserving peace, and he must be, ^bskilled in teaching, patient and tolerant when wronged. 25 He must ^acorrect those who are in opposition with courtesy and gentleness ^bin the hope that God may grant that they will repent and be led to ^cthe knowledge of the truth accurately understanding and welcoming it, 26 and that they may come to their senses and escape from ^athe trap of the devil, having been ^bheld captive by him to do his will.

Among them are ^aHymenaeus and Philetus, 18 men who have gone astray from the truth, claiming that ^athe resurrection has already taken place; and they are jeopardizing ^bthe faith of some. 19 Nevertheless, the ^afirm foundation of God stands, having this ^bseal: “^cThe Lord knows those who are His;” and, “^dEveryone who names the name of the Lord is to keep away from wickedness.”

20 Now in a large house there are not only gold and silver implements, but also implements of wood and of earthenware, and ^asome are for honor while others are for dishonor. 21 Therefore, if anyone cleanses himself from ^athese things, he will be an implement for honor, sanctified, useful to the Master, ^bprepared for every good work. 22 Now ^aflee from youthful lusts and pursue righteousness, ^bfaith, love, and peace with those who ^ccall on the Lord ^dfrom a pure heart. 23 But refuse foolish and ignorant ^aspeculations, knowing that they ^bproduce ¹quarrels. 24 ^aThe Lord’s bond-servant must not be quarrelsome, but be kind to all, ^bskillful in teaching, patient when wronged, 25 ^awith gentleness correcting those who are in opposition, ^bif perhaps God may grant them repentance leading to ^cthe knowledge of the truth, 26 and they may come to their senses and escape from ^athe snare of the devil, having been ^bheld captive ¹by him to do his will.
