Todos los que están bajo yugo como esclavos^a, consideren a sus propios amos como dignos de todo honor, para que el nombre de Dios y nuestra doctrina no sean blasfemados^b. 2 Y los que tienen amos que son creyentes, no les falten el respeto, porque son hermanos^a, sino sírvanles aún mejor, ya que son creyentes y amados los que se benefician de su servicio. Enseña^b y predica¹ estos principios.

3 Si alguno enseña una doctrina diferente^a y no se conforma a¹ las sanas palabras^b, las de nuestro Señor Jesucristo, y a la doctrina que es conforme a la piedad^c, 4 está envanecido^a y nada entiende, sino que tiene un interés morboso¹ en discusiones^b y contiendas de palabras^c, de las cuales nacen envidias, pleitos, blasfemias, malas sospechas, 5 y constantes rencillas entre hombres de mente depravada^a, que están privados de la verdad, que suponen que la piedad¹ es un medio de ganancia^2b. 6 Pero la piedad^a, en efecto, es un medio de gran ganancia^b cuando va acompañada de contentamiento^c. 7 Porque nada hemos traído al mundo^a, así que¹ nada podemos sacar de él. 8 Y si tenemos qué comer^a y con qué cubrirnos, con eso estaremos contentos. 9 Pero los que quieren enriquecerse^a caen en tentación y lazo^b y en muchos deseos necios y dañosos que hunden a los hombres en la ruina y en la perdición¹. 10 Porque la raíz de todos los males es el amor al dinero^a, por el cual, codiciándolo algunos, se extraviaron de la fe^b y se torturaron¹ con muchos dolores.

11 Pero tú, oh hombre de Dios^a, huye de estas cosas^b, y sigue la justicia, la piedad, la fe^c, el amor^d, la perseverancia y la amabilidad. 12 Pelea la buena batalla^a de la fe^b; echa mano de la vida eterna^c a la cual fuiste llamado^d, y de la que hiciste buena profesión^e en presencia de muchos testigos^f. 13 Te mando delante de Dios^a, que da vida¹ a todas las cosas, y de Cristo Jesús^b, que dio testimonio de la buena profesión^c delante de Poncio Pilato^d, 14 que guardes el mandamiento sin mancha ni reproche hasta la manifestación de nuestro Señor Jesucristo^a, 15 la cual manifestará a su debido tiempo^a el bienaventurado^b y único Soberano^c, el Rey de reyes^1d y Señor de señores^2e; 16 el único que tiene inmortalidad^a y habita en luz inaccesible^b; a quien ningún hombre ha visto ni puede ver^c. A Él sea la honra y el dominio eterno^d. Amén.

17 A los ricos en este mundo^1a, enséñales que no sean altaneros^b ni pongan su esperanza en la incertidumbre de las riquezas^c, sino en Dios, el cual nos da abundantemente todas las cosas para que las disfrutemos^d. 18 Enséñales que hagan bien, que sean ricos en buenas obras^a, generosos^b y prontos a compartir, 19 acumulando para sí el tesoro de un buen fundamento para el futuro^a, para que puedan echar mano de lo que en verdad es vida^b.

20 Oh Timoteo^a, guarda lo¹ que se te ha encomendado^b, y evita las palabrerías vacías y profanas^c, y las objeciones² de lo que falsamente se llama ciencia³, 21 la cual profesándola algunos, se han desviado^a de¹ la fe^b.

La gracia sea con vosotros^2c.

All ^awho are under the yoke as bond-servants (slaves) are to regard their own masters as worthy of honor and respect so ^bthat the name of God and the teaching about Him will not be spoken against. 2 Those who have believing masters are not to be disrespectful toward them because they are ^abrothers in Christ, but they should serve them even better, because those who benefit from their kindly service are believers and beloved. ^bTeach and urge these duties and principles.

3 If anyone ^ateaches a different doctrine and does not agree with the ^bsound words of our Lord Jesus Christ, and with the doctrine and teaching which is in ^cagreement with godliness (personal integrity, upright behavior) , 4 he is ^aconceited and woefully ignorant understanding nothing. He has a morbid interest in ^bcontroversial questions and ^cdisputes about words, which produces envy, quarrels, verbal abuse, evil suspicions, 5 and perpetual friction between ^amen who are corrupted in mind and deprived of the truth, who ^bthink that godliness is a source of profit a lucrative, money-making business—withdraw from them. 6 ^aBut godliness actually is a source of ^bgreat gain when accompanied by ^ccontentment that contentment which comes from a sense of inner confidence based on the sufficiency of God. 7 For ^awe have brought nothing into the world, so it is clear that we cannot take anything out of it, either. 8 But if we ^ahave food and clothing, with these we will be content. 9 ^aBut those who are not financially ethical and crave to get rich with a compulsive, greedy longing for wealth fall into temptation and ^ba trap and into many foolish and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction leading to personal misery. 10 For ^athe love of money that is, the greedy desire for it and the willingness to gain it unethically is a root of all sorts of evil, and some by longing for it have ^bwandered away from the faith and pierced themselves through and through with many sorrows.

11 But as for you, ¹O ^aman of God, ^bflee from these things; aim at and pursue righteousness true goodness, moral conformity to the character of God, godliness the fear of God, ^cfaith, ^dlove, steadfastness, and gentleness. 2+@Tim 3:17 12 ^aFight the good fight of the ^bfaith in the conflict with evil; ^ctake hold of the eternal life ^dto which you were called, and for which you made the good ^econfession of faith in the presence of ^fmany witnesses. 13 ^aI solemnly charge you in the presence of God, who gives life to all things, and in the presence of ^bChrist Jesus, who made the ^cgood confession in His testimony ^dbefore Pontius Pilate, 14 to keep all His precepts without stain or reproach until the ^aappearing of our Lord Jesus Christ, 15 which He will bring about in ^aHis own time—He who is ^bthe blessed and ^conly Sovereign the absolute Ruler, ^dthe King of those who reign as kings and ^eLord of those who rule as lords, 16 ^aHe alone possesses immortality absolute exemption from death and ^blives in unapproachable light, ^cwhom no man has ever seen or can see. ^dTo Him be honor and eternal power and dominion! 17 As for the rich in ^athis present world, instruct them ^bnot to be conceited and arrogant, nor to ^cset their hope on the uncertainty of riches, but on God, ^dwho richly and ceaselessly provides us with everything for our enjoyment. 18 Instruct them to do good, to be rich in ^agood works, ^bto be generous, willing to share with others. 19 ^aIn this way storing up for themselves the enduring riches of a good foundation for the future, so that they may ^btake hold of that which is truly life.

20 O ^aTimothy, guard and keep safe ^bthe deposit of godly truth entrusted to you, turn away from ^cworldly and godless chatter with its profane, empty words, and the contradictions of what is falsely called “knowledge”— 21 which some have professed and by doing so have ^aerred (missed the mark) and strayed from ^bthe faith.

17 Instruct those who are rich in ^athis present world ^bnot to be conceited or to ^cset their hope on the uncertainty of riches, but on God, ^dwho richly supplies us with all things to enjoy. 18 Instruct them to do good, to be rich in ^agood ¹works, ^bto be generous and ready to share, 19 ^astoring up for themselves the treasure of a good foundation for the future, so that they may ^btake hold of that which is truly life.

20 ^aTimothy, protect ^bwhat has been entrusted to you, avoiding ^cworldly, empty chatter and the opposing arguments of what is falsely called “knowledge”— 21 which some have professed and thereby have ^agone astray ¹from ^bthe faith.
