Cuando David era ya viejo y colmado de días^a, puso a su hijo Salomón como rey sobre Israel^b. 2 Y reunió a todos los principales de Israel con los sacerdotes y los levitas. 3 Los levitas fueron contados de treinta años para arriba^a, y su número, según el censo de los hombres¹, fue de treinta y ocho mil^b. 4 Deestos, veinticuatro mil debían dirigir la obra de la casa del SEÑOR^a, seis mil eran oficiales y jueces^b, 5 cuatro mil eran porteros y cuatro mil alababan al SEÑOR con los instrumentos que David¹ había hecho para rendir alabanza^a. 6 Y David los dividió en clases conforme a los hijos de Leví: Gersón, Coat y Merari^a.

7 De los de Gersón fueron Laadán¹ y Simei. 8 Los hijos de Laadán fueron Jehiel el primero, Zetam y Joel: tres. 9 Los hijos de Simei fueron Selomit, Haziel y Harán: tres. Estos fueron los jefes de las casas paternas de Laadán. 10 Y los hijos de Simei fueron Jahat, Zina, Jeús y Bería. Estos cuatro fueron los hijos de Simei. 11 Jahat fue el primero y Zina el segundo; pero Jeús y Bería no tuvieron muchos hijos, por lo cual constituyeron una casa paterna, un grupo¹.

12 Los hijos de Coat fueron cuatro: Amram, Izhar, Hebrón y Uziel. 13 Los hijos de Amram fueron Aarón y Moisés^a. Y Aarón fue separado para ser santificado como el más santo^b, él y sus hijos para siempre, para quemar incienso delante del SEÑOR, para servirle y para bendecir en su nombre para siempre^c. 14 Mas en cuanto a Moisés el hombre de Dios^a, sus hijos fueron contados entre la tribu de Leví. 15 Los hijos de Moisés fueron Gersón y Eliezer. 16 El hijo¹ de Gersón fue Sebuel² el jefe. 17 Y el hijo de Eliezer fue¹ Rehabías el jefe; y Eliezer no tuvo más hijos, pero los hijos de Rehabías fueron muchos. 18 El hijo¹ de Izhar fue Selomit² el jefe. 19 Los hijos de Hebrón fueron Jerías el primero, Amarías el segundo, Jahaziel el tercero, y Jecamán el cuarto. 20 Los hijos de Uziel fueron Micaía el primero, e Isías el segundo.

21 Los hijos de Merari fueron Mahli y Musi. Los hijos de Mahli fueron Eleazar y Cis. 22 Y Eleazar murió y no tuvo hijos, sinosolo hijas, de modo que sus parientes¹, los hijos de Cis, las tomaron por mujeres. 23 Los hijos de Musi fueron tres: Mahli, Eder y Jeremot.

24 Estos fueron los hijos de Leví conforme a sus casas paternas^a, es decir, los jefes de las casas paternas de los que fueron contados¹, en la cuenta de nombres según su censo², de veinte años para arriba, los cuales hacían la obra del servicio de la casa del SEÑOR^b. 25 Porque dijo David: El SEÑOR, Dios de Israel, ha dado reposo a su pueblo^a, y Él habita en Jerusalén para siempre. 26 Y además los levitas ya no tendrán que llevar el tabernáculo y todos los utensilios para su servicio^a. 27 Pues de acuerdo con las últimas palabras de David, los hijos de Leví fueron contados de veinte años para arriba; 28 porque su oficio era ayudar a¹ los hijos de Aarón en el servicio de la casa del SEÑOR, en los atrios y en las cámaras y en la purificación de todas las cosas sagradas y en la obra del servicio de la casa de Dios; 29 y también con los panes de la proposición^a, la flor de harina para la ofrenda de cereal, los hojaldres sin levadura^b, lo preparado en sartén^c, lo bien mezclado y todas las medidas de capacidad y longitud^d. 30 Y han de estar presentes cada mañana para dar gracias y para alabar al SEÑOR, y asimismo por la noche, 31 y para ofrecer todos los holocaustos al SEÑOR todos los días de reposo, las lunas nuevas^a y las fiestas señaladas según el número fijado por la ordenanza^b que las prescribe, continuamente delante del SEÑOR. 32 Así estarán encargados de la custodia de la tienda de reunión, de la custodia del lugar santo^a y de la custodia de los hijos de Aarón sus parientes¹, para el servicio de la casa del SEÑOR^b.

3 ^aThe Levites thirty years old and upward were ^bcounted, and their number man by man was 38,000. 4 Of these ¹24,000 were ^ato oversee and inspect the work of the house of the LORD and 6,000 were to be ^badministrators and judges, 5 and 4,000 were gatekeepers, and ^a4,000 musicians were to praise the LORD with the instruments which David made for giving praise. 6 And David organized them into divisions ^aaccording to the sons of Levi: Gershon, Kohath, and Merari.

7 Of the Gershonites: Ladan (Libni) and Shimei. 8 The sons of Ladan: Jehiel the first and Zetham and Joel—three in all. 9 The sons of Shimei: Shelomoth, Haziel, and Haran—three in all. These were the heads of the fathers’ households of Ladan. 10 The sons of Shimei: Jahath, Zina (Zizah) , Jeush, and Beriah. These were the four sons of Shimei. 11 Jahath was the first and Zizah the second; but Jeush and Beriah did not have many sons not enough for a father’s house or clan, so they were counted together as one father’s household, one working group.

12 The sons of Kohath: Amram, Izhar, Hebron, and Uzziel—four in all. 13 ^aThe sons of Amram: Aaron and Moses. ^bAaron was set apart to consecrate him as most holy, he and his sons forever, to ^cburn incense before the LORD, attend to His service, and to bless worshipers in His name forever. 14 But as for ^aMoses the man of God, his sons were counted among the tribe of Levi. 15 The sons of Moses: Gershom and Eliezer. 16 The son of Gershom: Shebuel the chief. 17 The son of Eliezer was Rehabiah the chief. Eliezer had no other sons, but Rehabiah’s sons were very many in number. 18 The son of Izhar: Shelomith the chief. 19 The sons of Hebron: Jeriah the first, Amariah the second, Jahaziel the third, and Jekameam the fourth. 20 The sons of Uzziel: Micah the first and Isshiah the second.

21 The sons of Merari: Mahli and Mushi. The sons of Mahli: Eleazar and Kish. 22 Eleazar died and had no sons, but daughters only, and their relatives, the sons of Kish, took them as wives. 23 The sons of Mushi: Mahli, Eder, and Jeremoth—three in all.

24 ^aThese were the Levites by their fathers’ households, the heads of the fathers’ households of those registered, according to the number of names of the individuals who were the servants of the house of the LORD, ^bfrom twenty years old and upward. 25 For David said, “The LORD God of Israel, ^ahas given peace and rest to His people, and He dwells in Jerusalem forever. 26 Also, ^athe Levites will no longer need to carry the tabernacle and all its utensils for its service.” 27 For by the last words of David, the Levites from twenty years old and above were counted. 28 For their duty is to assist the priests the sons of Aaron in the service of the house of the LORD, in caring for the courtyards, the chambers, the purifying of all holy things, and any work of the service of the house of God, 29 ^aand with the showbread, and ^bthe fine flour for a grain offering, and unleavened wafers, or ^cwhat is baked in the pan or ^dwhat is well-mixed, and ^eall measures of volume and size as the Law of Moses required. 30 They are to stand every morning to thank and praise the LORD, and likewise at evening, 31 and to offer all burnt sacrifices to the LORD ^aon the Sabbaths, the new moons, and the ^bfestivals by number according to the ordinance concerning them, continually before the LORD. 32 So ^athey shall be responsible for the Tent of Meeting, the Holy Place, and ^bthe sons of Aaron their relatives, for the service of the house of the LORD.

7 Of the Gershonites there were ¹Ladan and Shimei. 8 The sons of Ladan were Jehiel the first, and Zetham and Joel, three. 9 The sons of Shimei were Shelomoth, Haziel, and Haran, three. 21 The sons of Merari were Mahli and Mushi. The sons of Mahli were Eleazar and Kish. 22 Eleazar died and had no sons, but only daughters; so their relatives, the sons of Kish, took them as wives. 23 The sons of Mushi were three: Mahli, Eder, and Jeremoth.

24 ^aThese were the sons of Levi according to their fathers’ households, the heads of the fathers’ households of those among them who were ¹counted, in the number of names by their ²head count, doing the work for the service of the house of the LORD, ^bfrom twenty years old and upward. 25 For David said, “The LORD God of Israel ^ahas given rest to His people, and He dwells in Jerusalem forever. 26 Also, ^athe Levites will no longer need to carry the tabernacle and all its utensils for its service.” 27 For by the last words of David, the sons of Levi were counted from twenty years old and upward. 28 For their office is ¹to assist the sons of Aaron with the service of the house of the LORD, in the courtyards and in the chambers, and in the purification of all holy things, and the work of the service of the house of God, 29 ^aand with the showbread, and ^bthe fine flour for a grain offering, and unleavened wafers, or ^cwhat is baked in the pan or ^dwhat is well-mixed, and ^eall measures of volume and size. 30 They are to stand every morning to thank and to praise the LORD, and likewise at evening, 31 and to offer all burnt offerings to the LORD, ^aon the Sabbaths, the new moons and ^bthe appointed festivals, in the number determined by the ordinance concerning them, continually before the LORD. 32 So ^athey are to perform the ¹duties of the tent of meeting, the holy place, and ^bof assisting the sons of Aaron their relatives, for the service of the house of the LORD.
