Cuando llegó¹ el día de Pentecostés^a, estaban todos juntos² en un mismo lugar. 2 De repente vino del cielo un ruido como el de una ráfaga de viento impetuoso que¹ llenó toda la casa donde estaban sentados^a, 3 y se les aparecieron lenguas como de fuego que, repartiéndose¹, se posaron² sobre cada uno de ellos. 4 Todos fueron llenos del Espíritu Santo^a y comenzaron a hablar en otras lenguas^b, según el Espíritu les daba habilidad para expresarse.

5 Y había judíos que moraban en Jerusalén, hombres piadosos^a, procedentes de todas las naciones bajo el cielo. 6 Y al ocurrir este estruendo^a, la multitud se juntó; y estaban desconcertados porque cada uno los oía hablar en su propia lengua¹. 7 Y estaban asombrados y se maravillaban^a, diciendo: Mirad, ¿no son galileos^b todos estos que están hablando? 8 ¿Cómo es que cada uno de nosotros los oímos hablar en nuestra lengua¹ en la que hemos nacido? 9 Partos, medos y elamitas, habitantes de Mesopotamia, de Judea y de Capadocia, del Ponto^a y de Asia^1b, 10 de Frigia^a y de Panfilia^b, de Egipto y de las regiones de Libia¹ alrededor de Cirene^c, viajeros^d de Roma, tanto judíos como prosélitos^2e, 11 cretenses y árabes, les oímos hablar en nuestros idiomas de las maravillas de Dios. 12 Todos estaban asombrados y perplejos^a, diciéndose unos a otros: ¿Qué quiere decir esto? 13 Pero otros se burlaban y decían: Están borrachos^1a.

14 Entonces Pedro, poniéndose en pie con los once^a, alzó la voz y les declaró: Varones judíos y todos los que vivís en Jerusalén, sea esto de vuestro conocimiento y prestad atención a mis palabras, 15 porqueestos no están borrachos como vosotros suponéis, pues apenas es la hora tercera¹ del día^a; 16 sino que esto es lo que fue dicho por medio del profeta Joel:

22 Varones israelitas, escuchad estas palabras: Jesús el Nazareno^a, varón confirmado¹ por Dios entre vosotros con milagros², prodigios y señales^3b que Dios hizo en medio vuestro a través de Él^c, tal como vosotros mismos sabéis, 23 aeste, entregado por el plan predeterminado y el previo conocimiento¹ de Dios^a, clavasteis en una cruz por manos de impíos² y le matasteis^b, 24 a quien Dios resucitó^a, poniendo fin a la agonía¹ de la muerte, puesto que no era posible que Él quedara bajo el dominio de ella^b. 25 Porque David dice de Él:^aVEÍA SIEMPRE AL SEÑOR EN MI PRESENCIA;PUES ESTÁ A MI DIESTRA PARA QUE YO NO SEA CONMOVIDO.

29 Hermanos¹, del patriarca^a David os puedo decir confiadamente que murió y fue sepultado^b, y su sepulcro^c está entre nosotros hasta el día de hoy. 30 Pero siendo profeta^a, y sabiendo que DIOS LE HABÍA JURADO SENTAR a uno DE SUS DESCENDIENTES¹ EN SU TRONO^b, 31 miró hacia el futuro y habló de la resurrección de Cristo¹, que NO FUE ABANDONADO EN EL HADES², NI su carne SUFRIÓ³ CORRUPCIÓN^a. 32 A este Jesús resucitó Dios^a, de lo cual todos nosotros somos testigos^b. 33 Así que, exaltado a¹ la diestra de Dios^a, y habiendo recibido del Padre la promesa^b del Espíritu Santo^c, ha derramado^d esto que vosotros veis y oís. 34 Porque David no ascendió a los cielos, pero él mismo dice:^aDIJO EL SEÑOR A MI SEÑOR:«SIÉNTATE A MI DIESTRA,

36 Sepa, pues, con certeza toda la casa de Israel^a, que a este Jesús a quien vosotros crucificasteis^b, Dios le ha hecho Señor y Cristo^1c.

37 Al oír esto, compungidos de corazón¹, dijeron a Pedro y a los demás apóstoles: Hermanos², ¿qué haremos^a? 38 Y Pedro les dijo: Arrepentíos^a y sed bautizados^b cada uno de vosotros en el nombre de Jesucristo para perdón de vuestros pecados, y recibiréis el don del Espíritu Santo. 39 Porque la promesa es para vosotros y para vuestros hijos^a y para todos los que están lejos^b, para tantos como el Señor nuestro Dios llame. 40 Y con muchas otras palabras testificaba^a solemnemente y les exhortaba diciendo: Sed salvos¹ de esta perversa generación^b. 41 Entonces los que habían recibido su palabra fueron bautizados; y se añadieron aquel día como tres mil almas^1a. 42 Y se dedicaban continuamente^a a las enseñanzas de los apóstoles, a la comunión, al partimiento del pan^b y a la oración^1c.

43 Sobrevino temor a toda persona; y muchos prodigios y señales^1a eran hechas por los apóstoles². 44 Todos los que habían creído estaban juntos y tenían todas las cosas en común^a; 45 vendían sus propiedades y sus bienes y los compartían con todos^a, según la necesidad de cada uno. 46 Día tras día continuaban unánimes en el templo y partiendo el pan^a en los hogares^b, comían juntos¹ con alegría y sencillez de corazón, 47 alabando a Dios y hallando favor con todo el pueblo^a. Y el Señor añadía cada día al número^b de ellos los que iban siendo salvos^c.

When ^athe day of ¹Pentecost had come, they were all together in one place, 2 and suddenly a sound came from heaven like a rushing violent wind, and it filled ^athe whole house where they were sitting. 3 There appeared to them tongues resembling fire, which were being distributed among them, and they rested on each one of them as each person received the Holy Spirit. 4 And they were all ^afilled that is, diffused throughout their being with the Holy Spirit and began to ^bspeak in other ¹tongues (different languages) , as the Spirit was giving them the ability to speak out clearly and appropriately.

5 Now there were Jews living in Jerusalem, ^adevout and God-fearing men from every nation under heaven. 6 And when ^athis sound was heard, a crowd gathered, and they were bewildered because each one was hearing those in the upper room speaking in his own language or dialect. 7 ^aThey were completely astonished, saying, “Look! Are not all of these who are speaking ^bGalileans? 8 Then how is it that each of us hears in our own language or native dialect? 9 Among us there are Parthians, Medes and Elamites, and people of Mesopotamia, Judea and ^aCappadocia, ^bPontus and ^1cAsia Minor, 10 ^aPhrygia and ^bPamphylia, Egypt and the districts of Libya around ^cCyrene, and the ^dvisitors from Rome, both Jews and ^eproselytes (Gentile converts to Judaism) , 11 Cretans and Arabs—we all hear them speaking in our native tongues about the mighty works of God!” 12 And ^athey were beside themselves with amazement and were greatly perplexed, saying one to another, “What could this mean?” 13 But others were laughing and joking and ridiculing them, saying, “^aThey are full of sweet wine and are drunk!”

14 But Peter, standing with ^athe eleven, raised his voice and addressed them: “Men of Judea and all you who live in Jerusalem, let this be explained to you; listen closely and pay attention to what I have to say. 15 These people are not drunk, as you assume, ^asince it is only the third hour of the day (9:00 a.m.) ; 16 but this is the beginning of what was spoken of through the prophet Joel:

22 “Men of Israel, listen to these words: ^aJesus of Nazareth, ^ba Man accredited and pointed out and attested to you by God with the power to perform miracles and ^cwonders and signs which God worked through Him in your very midst, just as you yourselves know— 23 this Man, when handed over to the Roman authorities according to the ^apredetermined decision and foreknowledge of God, ^byou nailed to a cross and put to death by the hands of lawless and godless men. 24 But ^aGod raised Him up, releasing Him and bringing an end to the agony of death, since it ^bwas impossible for Him to be held in death’s power. 25 For David says of Him,‘^aI SAW THE LORD CONSTANTLY BEFORE ME;FOR HE IS AT MY RIGHT HAND, SO THAT I WILL NOT BE SHAKEN from my state of security.

29 “Brothers, I may confidently and freely say to you regarding the ^apatriarch David that he both ^bdied and ^cwas buried, and ^dhis tomb is with us to this day. 30 And so, being ^aa prophet and knowing fully that ^bGOD HAD SWORN TO HIM WITH AN OATH THAT HE WOULD SEAT one OF HIS DESCENDANTS ON HIS THRONE, 2+@Sam 7:12-16; Ps 132:11 31 he foresaw and spoke prophetically of the resurrection of the Christ (the Messiah, the Anointed) , that ^aHE WAS NOT ABANDONED in death TO HADES (the realm of the dead) , NOR DID His body UNDERGO DECAY. Ps 16:10 32 ^aGod raised this Jesus bodily from the dead, and of that fact we are all ^bwitnesses. 33 Therefore having been exalted ^1ato the right hand of God, and ^bhaving received from the Father ^cthe promise of the Holy Spirit, He has ^dpoured out this blessing which you both see and hear. 34 For David did not ascend into the heavens, yet he himself says,‘^aTHE LORD the Father SAID TO MY ¹LORD the Son,“SIT AT MY RIGHT HAND,

36 Therefore let all the ^ahouse of Israel recognize beyond all doubt that God has made Him both ^bLord and Christ (Messiah, Anointed)—this Jesus ^cwhom you crucified.”

37 Now when they heard this, they were cut to the heart with remorse and anxiety, and they said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, “Brothers, ^awhat are we to do?” 38 And Peter said to them, “^aRepent change your old way of thinking, turn from your sinful ways, accept and follow Jesus as the Messiah and be ^bbaptized, each of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. 39 For ^athe promise of the Holy Spirit is for you and your children and for all who are ^bfar away including the Gentiles, as many as the Lord our God calls to Himself.” Is 57:19; Joel 2:32 40 And Peter solemnly ^atestified and continued to admonish and urge them with many more words, saying, “¹Be saved from this ^bcrooked and unjust generation!” 41 So then, those who accepted his message were baptized; and on that day about ¹3,000 ^asouls were added to the body of believers. 42 They were continually and faithfully ^adevoting themselves to the instruction of the apostles, and to fellowship, to ^1beating meals together and to ^cprayers.

43 A sense of awe was felt by ¹everyone, and many ^awonders and signs (attesting miracles) were taking place through the apostles. 44 And all those who had believed in Jesus as Savior ¹were together and ^ahad all things in common considering their possessions to belong to the group as a whole. 45 And they ^abegan selling their property and possessions and were sharing the proceeds with all the other believers, as anyone had need. 46 ^aDay after day they met in the temple area continuing with one mind, and ^bbreaking bread in various private homes. They were eating their meals together with joy and generous hearts, 47 praising God continually, and ^ahaving favor with all the people. And the Lord ^bkept adding to their number daily ^cthose who were being saved.

When ^athe day of Pentecost ¹had come, they were all together in one place. 2 And suddenly a noise like a violent rushing wind came from heaven, and it filled ^athe whole house where they were sitting. 3 And tongues that looked like fire appeared to them, ¹distributing themselves, and a tongue ²rested on each one of them. 4 And they were all ^afilled with the Holy Spirit and began to ^bspeak with different ¹tongues, as the Spirit was giving them the ability to speak out.

5 Now there were Jews residing in Jerusalem, ^adevout men from every nation under heaven. 6 And when ^athis sound occurred, the crowd came together and they were bewildered, because each one of them was hearing them speak in his own ¹language. 7 ^aThey were amazed and astonished, saying, “¹Why, are not all these who are speaking ^bGalileans? 8 And how is it that we each hear them in our own ¹language ²to which we were born? 9 Parthians, Medes, and Elamites, and residents of Mesopotamia, Judea, and ^aCappadocia, ^bPontus and ^1cAsia, 10 ^aPhrygia and ^bPamphylia, Egypt and the parts of Libya around ^cCyrene, and ^1dvisitors from Rome, both Jews and ^2eproselytes, 11 Cretans and Arabs—we hear them speaking in our own ¹tongues of the mighty deeds of God.” 12 And ^athey all continued in amazement and great perplexity, saying to one another, “What does this mean?” 13 But others were jeering and saying, “^aThey are full of ¹sweet wine!”

14 But Peter, taking his stand with ^athe other eleven, raised his voice and declared to them: “Men of Judea and all you who live in Jerusalem, ¹know this, and pay attention to my words. 15 For these people are not drunk, as you assume, ^asince it is only the ¹third hour of the day; 16 but this is what has been spoken through the prophet Joel:

29 “¹Brothers, I may confidently say to you regarding the ^apatriarch David that he both ^bdied and ^cwas buried, and ^dhis tomb is ²with us to this day. 30 So because he was ^aa prophet and knew that ^bGod had sworn to him with an oath to seat one ¹of his descendants on his throne, 31 he looked ahead and spoke of the resurrection of the ¹Christ, that ^aHe was neither abandoned to Hades, nor did His flesh ²suffer decay. 32 It is this Jesus whom ^aGod raised up, ¹a fact to which we are all ^bwitnesses. 33 Therefore, ¹since He has been exalted ^2aat the right hand of God, and ^bhas received ^cthe promise of the Holy Spirit from the Father, He has ^dpoured out this which you both see and hear. 34 For it was not David who ascended into ¹heaven, but he himself says:‘^aTHE LORD SAID TO MY LORD,“SIT AT MY RIGHT HAND,

36 Therefore let all the ^ahouse of Israel know for certain that God has made Him both ^bLord and ¹Christ—this Jesus ^cwhom you crucified.”

43 ¹Everyone kept feeling a sense of awe; and many ^awonders and ²signs were taking place through the apostles. 44 And all the believers ¹were together and ^ahad all things in common; 45 and they ^awould sell their property and possessions and share them with all, to the extent that anyone had need. 46 ^aDay by day continuing with one mind in the temple, and ^bbreaking bread ¹from house to house, they were taking their ²meals together with gladness and ³sincerity of heart, 47 praising God and ^ahaving favor with all the people. And the Lord ^bwas adding to ¹their number day by day ^cthose who were being saved.
