La ira del SEÑOR sobre Judá

Palabra del SEÑOR que vino a Sofonías, hijo de Cusi, hijo de Gedalías, hijo de Amarías, hijo de Ezequías, en los días de Josías^a, hijo de Amón^b, rey de Judá:

2 Eliminaré por completo todode la faz de la tierra¹—declara el SEÑOR^a.3 Eliminaré hombres y animales^a,eliminaré las aves del cielo^by los peces del mar,y haré tropezar a¹ los impíos;extirparé al hombre de la faz de la tierra—declara el SEÑOR^c.4 Extenderé mi mano^a contra Judáy contra todos los habitantes de Jerusalén;cortaré de este lugar al remanente de Baal^by los nombres de los ministros idólatras junto con sus sacerdotes^c;5 a los que se postran en las terrazasante el ejército del cielo^a,a los que se postran y juran por el SEÑOR^by juran también por Milcom¹^c,6 a los que han dejado de seguir al SEÑOR^a,y a los que no han buscado al SEÑOR ni le han consultado^b.

7 ¡Calla delante del Señor DIOS¹^a!,porque el día del SEÑOR está cerca^b,porque el SEÑOR ha preparado un sacrificio^c,ha consagrado a sus invitados^d.8 Y sucederá que en el día del sacrificio del SEÑORcastigaré a los príncipes,a los hijos del rey^ay a todos los que visten ropa extranjera^b.9 Aquel día castigaréa todos los que saltan sobre el umbral,a los que llenan la casa de su señor¹de violencia y de engaño^a.10 Y habrá aquel día—declara el SEÑOR—gritos de auxilio desde la puerta del Pescado^a,y gemidos desde el segundo distrito¹^b,y gran estruendo desde las colinas^c.11 Gemid, habitantes del Mortero¹,porque será silenciado todo el pueblo de Canaán²^a,exterminados todos los que pesan plata^b.12 Y sucederá en aquel tiempoque yo escudriñaré a Jerusalén con lámparas^a,y castigaré a los hombresque reposan como el vino¹ en sus heces^b,los que dicen en su corazón:«Ni bien ni mal hará el SEÑOR^c».13 Sus riquezas se convertirán en despojos^a,y sus casas en desolación;edificarán casas, mas no las habitarán,plantarán viñas, mas no beberán su vino^b.

14 Cercano está el gran día del SEÑOR,cercano y muy próximo.El clamor del día del SEÑOR es amargo^a;allí gritará el guerrero^b.15 Día de ira aquel día,día de congoja y de angustia^a,día de destrucción y desolación,día de tinieblas y lobreguez,día nublado y de densa oscuridad^b,16 día de trompeta y grito de guerra^acontra las ciudades fortificadasy contra los torreones de las esquinas^b.17 Traeré angustia sobre los hombres^a,y andarán como ciegos^b,porque han pecado contra el SEÑOR;su sangre será derramada como polvo^c,y su carne como estiércol^d.18 Ni su plata ni su oropodrán librarlosen el día de la ira del SEÑOR^a,cuando por el fuego de su celotoda la tierra sea consumida^b;porque Él hará una destruccióntotal y terriblede todos los habitantes de la tierra^c.

Day of Judgment on Judah

The word of the LORD which came to Zephaniah the son of Cushi, the son of Gedaliah, the son of Amariah, the son of ¹Hezekiah, in the days of ^aJosiah the son of ^bAmon, king of Judah:

2 “I will completely ^aconsume and sweep away all thingsFrom the face of the earth in judgment,” says the LORD.3 “I will consume and sweep away ^aman and beast;I will consume and sweep away the ^bbirds of the airAnd the fish of the sea,And the ¹^cstumbling blocks (idols) along with the wicked;And I will cut off and destroy man from the face of the earth,” declares the LORD.4 “I will also ^astretch out My hand in judgment against JudahAnd against all the inhabitants of Jerusalem.And I will ^bcut off and destroy the remnant of ¹Baal from this place,And the names and remembrance of the ^cidolatrous priests along with the false priests,5 And those who bow down and worship the host of heaven the sun, the moon, and the stars ¹on their ^ahousetopsAnd those who bow down and ^bswear oaths to and pretend to worship the LORD and yet also swear by the pagan god called ^cMilcom god of the Ammonites,6 And those who have ^aturned back from following the LORD,And those who have ^bnot sought the LORD as their most important need or inquired of Him.”

7 Hush! ^aBe silent before the Lord GOD there is no acceptable excuse to offer!For the ^bday of the vengeance of the LORD is near,For the LORD has prepared a ^csacrifice (Judah) ,He has ^dset apart for His use those who have accepted His invitation the Chaldeans who rule Babylon. Hab 2:208 “Then it will come about on the day of the LORD’S sacrificeThat I will ^apunish the princes and the king’s sonsAnd all who are clothed in lavish ^bforeign apparel reflecting their paganism. Num 15:38, 399 “On that day I will also punish all those who ¹leap over the temple threshold,Who fill their pagan lord’s temple with ^aviolence and deceit.10 “On that day,” declares the LORD,“There will be the sound of crying from the ^aFish (Damascus) Gate in the northern wall of Jerusalem where invaders enterAnd wailing from the ¹^bSecond Quarter of the city,And a loud crash from the ^chills.11 “Wail in anguish, you inhabitants of the ¹Mortar (Valley of Siloam) ,For all the merchants of ^aCanaan will be silenced and destroyed;All who weigh out ^bsilver will be cut off.12 “It will come about at that timeThat I will ^asearch Jerusalem with lampsAnd I will punish the menWho like old wine are ^bstagnant in spirit,Who say in their hearts,‘The LORD will ^cnot do good, nor will He do evil.’13 “Furthermore, their wealth will become ^aplunderAnd their houses a desolation.Yes, ^bthey will build houses but not live in them,And plant vineyards but not drink their wine.” Deut 28:30, 39; Amos 5:11, 12

14 The ^agreat judgment ^bday of the LORD is near,Near and coming very quickly.Listen! The voice of the day of the LORD!The warrior ^ccries out bitterly unable to fight or to flee.15 That day is a day of the outpouring of the wrath of God,A day of ^atrouble and distress,A day of destruction and devastation,A day of ^bdarkness and gloom,A day of clouds and thick darkness, Jer 30:7; Joel 2:11; Amos 5:1816 A day of ^atrumpet and the battle cry of invadersAgainst the ^bfortified citiesAnd against the high corner towers (battlements) .17 I will bring ^adistress on menSo that they will walk ^blike the blind unable to find a way of escape,Because they have sinned against the LORD;Their ^cblood will be poured out like dust and trampled underfoot,And their ^dflesh like dung.18 Neither their ^asilver nor their goldWill be able to rescue themOn the day of the LORD’S indignation and wrath.And the ^bwhole earth will be consumedIn the fire of His jealous ¹wrath,For He shall ^cmake a full and complete end,Indeed a terrifying one,Of all the inhabitants of the earth. 7 ¹^aBe silent before the Lord ²GOD!For the ^bday of the LORD is near,For the LORD has prepared a ^csacrifice,He has ^dconsecrated His guests.8 “Then it will come about on the day of the LORD’S sacrificeThat I will ^apunish the princes, the king’s sonsAnd all who clothe themselves with ^bforeign garments.9 “And I will punish on that day all who leap on the temple threshold,Who fill the house of their ¹lord with ^aviolence and deceit.10 “On that day,” declares the LORD,“There will be the sound of a cry from the ^aFish Gate,A wail from the ¹^bSecond Quarter,And a loud crash from the ^chills.11 “Wail, O inhabitants of the ¹Mortar,For all the ²people of ^aCanaan will be silenced;All who weigh out ^bsilver will be cut off.12 “It will come about at that timeThat I will ^asearch Jerusalem with lamps,And I will punish the menWho are ¹^bstagnant in spirit,Who say in their hearts,‘The LORD will ^cnot do good or evil!’13 “Moreover, their wealth will become ^aplunderAnd their houses desolate;Yes, ^bthey will build houses but not inhabit them,And plant vineyards but not drink their wine.”

14 Near is the ^agreat ^bday of the LORD,Near and coming very quickly;Listen, the day of the LORD!¹In it the warrior ^ccries out bitterly.15 A day of wrath is that day,A day of ^atrouble and distress,A day of destruction and desolation,A day of ^bdarkness and gloom,A day of clouds and thick darkness,16 A day of ^atrumpet and battle cryAgainst the ^bfortified citiesAnd the high corner towers.17 I will bring ^adistress on menSo that they will walk ^blike the blind,Because they have sinned against the LORD;And their ^cblood will be poured out like dustAnd their ^dflesh like dung.18 Neither their ^asilver nor their goldWill be able to deliver themOn the day of the LORD’S wrath;And ^ball the earth will be devouredIn the fire of His jealousy,For He will ^cmake a complete end,Indeed a terrifying one,Of all the inhabitants of the earth.
