¿Qué diremos, entonces^a? ¿Continuaremos en pecado para que la gracia abunde^b? 2 ¡De ningún modo^a! Nosotros, que hemos muerto al pecado, ¿cómo viviremos aún en él^b? 3 ¿O no sabéis que todos los que hemos sido bautizados^a en Cristo Jesús^b, hemos sido bautizados en su muerte? 4 Por tanto, hemos sido sepultados con Él por medio del bautismo para muerte, a fin de que como Cristo resucitó de entre los muertos^a por la gloria del Padre^b, así también nosotros andemos en novedad de vida^c. 5 Porque si hemos sido unidos¹ a Él en la semejanza² de su muerte^a, ciertamente lo seremos también en la semejanza de su resurrección, 6 sabiendo esto, que nuestro viejo hombre^a fue crucificado con Él^b, para que nuestro cuerpo de pecado^c fuera destruido¹, a fin de que ya no seamos esclavos del pecado; 7 porque el que ha muerto, ha sido libertado¹ del pecado^a. 8 Y si hemos muerto con Cristo, creemos que también viviremos con Él^a, 9 sabiendo que Cristo, habiendo resucitado de entre los muertos^a, no volverá a morir; ya la muerte no tiene dominio sobre Él^b. 10 Porque en cuanto Él murió, murió al pecado de una vez para siempre; pero en cuanto vive, vive para Dios. 11 Así también vosotros, consideraos muertos para el pecado, pero vivos para Dios en Cristo Jesús^1a.

12 Por tanto, no reine el pecado en vuestro cuerpo mortal^a para que no obedezcáis sus lujurias; 13 ni presentéis los miembros de vuestro cuerpo^1a al pecado como instrumentos² de iniquidad, sino presentaos vosotros mismos a Dios como vivos de entre los muertos, y vuestros miembros a Dios como instrumentos³ de justicia^b. 14 Porque el pecado no tendrá dominio sobre vosotros^a, pues no estáis bajo la ley^b sino bajo la gracia^c.

15 ¿Entonces qué? ¿Pecaremos porque no estamos bajo la ley, sino bajo la gracia^a? ¡De ningún modo^b! 16 ¿No sabéis^a que cuando os presentáis a alguno como esclavos para obedecerle¹, sois esclavos de aquel a quien obedecéis, ya sea del pecado^b para muerte^c, o de la obediencia para justicia? 17 Pero gracias a Dios^a, que aunque erais esclavos del pecado, os hicisteis¹ obedientes de corazón a aquella forma de enseñanza a la que fuisteis entregados^b; 18 y habiendo sido libertados del pecado, os habéis hecho siervos de la justicia^a. 19 Hablo en términos humanos^a, por causa de la debilidad de vuestra carne. Porque de la manera que presentasteis vuestros miembros como esclavos a la impureza y a la iniquidad, para iniquidad, así ahora presentad vuestros miembros como esclavos a la justicia^b, para santificación. 20 Porque cuando erais esclavos del pecado, erais libres en cuanto a la justicia^a. 21 ¿Qué fruto teníais entonces en¹ aquellas cosas de las cuales ahora os avergonzáis? Porque el fin de esas cosas es muerte^a. 22 Pero ahora, habiendo sido libertados del pecado^a y hechos siervos de Dios^b, tenéis por vuestro fruto^c la santificación, y como resultado la vida eterna^d. 23 Porque la paga del pecado es muerte^a, pero la dádiva de Dios es vida eterna en Cristo Jesús Señor nuestro^b.

^aWhat shall we say to all this? Should we ^bcontinue in sin and practice sin as a habit so that God’s gift of ¹grace may increase and overflow? 2 ^aCertainly not! How can we, the very ones who ^bdied to sin, continue to live in it any longer? 3 Or are you ignorant of the fact that all of us who have been ^1abaptized into ^bChrist Jesus were baptized into His death? 4 We have therefore been ^aburied with Him through baptism into death, so that just as Christ was ^braised from the dead through the ^cglory and power of the Father, we too might walk habitually in ^dnewness of life abandoning our old ways. 5 For ^aif we have become one with Him permanently united in the likeness of His death, we will also certainly be one with Him and share fully in the likeness of His resurrection. 6 We know that our ^aold ¹self our human nature without the Holy Spirit was ^bnailed to the cross with Him, in order that our ^cbody of sin might be done away with, so that we would no longer be slaves to sin. 7 For ^athe person who has died with Christ has been freed from the power of sin.

8 Now ^aif we have died with Christ, we believe that we will also live together with Him, 9 because we know the self-evident truth that Christ, having been ^araised from the dead, will never die again; ^bdeath no longer has power over Him. 10 For the death that He died, He died to sin ending its power and paying the sinner’s debt once and for all; and the life that He lives, He lives to glorify God in unbroken fellowship with Him. 11 Even so, consider yourselves to be ^adead to sin and your relationship to it broken, but alive to God in unbroken fellowship with Him in Christ Jesus.

12 Therefore do not let sin ^areign in your mortal body so that you obey its lusts and passions. 13 Do not go on ^aoffering members of your body to sin as instruments of wickedness. But ^boffer yourselves to God in a decisive act as those alive raised from the dead to a new life, and your members all of your abilities—sanctified, set apart as instruments of righteousness yielded to God. 14 For ^asin will no longer ^bbe a master over you, since ^cyou are not under Law as slaves, but ^dunder unmerited grace as recipients of God’s favor and mercy.

15 What then are we to conclude? ^aShall we sin because we are not under Law, but under God’s grace? ^bCertainly not! 16 Do you not ^aknow that when you continually offer yourselves to someone ^bto do his will, you are the slaves of the one whom you obey, either slaves of ^csin, which leads to death, or of obedience, which leads to righteousness (right standing with God) ? 17 But ^athank God that though you were slaves of sin, you became obedient with all your heart to ^bthe standard of teaching in which you were instructed and to which you were committed. 18 And having been ^aset free from sin, you have become the slaves of righteousness of conformity to God’s will and purpose. 19 ^aI am speaking in familiar human terms because of your natural limitations your spiritual immaturity. For ^bjust as you presented your bodily members as slaves to impurity and to moral lawlessness, leading to further lawlessness, so now offer your members your abilities, your talents as slaves to righteousness, leading to ¹sanctification that is, being set apart for God’s purpose.

20 ^aWhen you were slaves of sin, you were free in regard to righteousness you had no desire to conform to God’s will. 21 So what ^abenefit did you get at that time from the things of which you are now ashamed? None! For the outcome of those things is ^bdeath! 22 But now since you have been ^aset free from sin and have become willing ^bslaves to God, you have your ^cbenefit, resulting in sanctification being made holy and set apart for God’s purpose, and ^dthe outcome of this is eternal life. 23 For the wages of ^asin is death, but the free gift of God that is, His remarkable, overwhelming gift of grace to believers is ^beternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

^aWhat shall we say then? Are we to ^bcontinue in sin so that grace may increase? 2 ^aMay it never be! 15 What then? ^aShall we sin because we are not under law but under grace? ^bMay it never be! 16 Do you not ^aknow that when you present yourselves to someone as ^bslaves for obedience, you are slaves of the one whom you obey, either of ^csin ¹resulting in death, or of obedience ²resulting in righteousness? 17 But ^athanks be to God that ¹though you were slaves of sin, you became obedient from the heart to that ^bform of teaching to which you were committed, 18 and having been ^afreed from sin, you became slaves of righteousness. 19 ^aI am speaking in human terms because of the weakness of your flesh. For just ^bas you presented your members as slaves to impurity and to lawlessness, ¹resulting in further lawlessness, so now present your members as slaves to righteousness, ²resulting in sanctification.

20 For ^awhen you were slaves of sin, you were free in regard to righteousness. 21 Therefore what ^1abenefit were you then ²deriving ³from the things of which you are now ashamed? For the outcome of those things is ^bdeath. 22 But now having been ^afreed from sin and ^benslaved to God, you ¹derive your ^2cbenefit, ³resulting in sanctification, and ^dthe outcome, eternal life. 23 For the wages of ^asin is death, but the free gift of God is ^beternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
