^aJesús, lleno del Espíritu Santo, volvió del Jordán^b y fue llevado por el¹ Espíritu en el desierto 2 por cuarenta días, siendo tentado por el diablo. Y no comió nada durante esos días^a, pasados los cuales tuvo hambre. 3 Entonces el diablo le dijo: Si eres Hijo de Dios, di a esta piedra que se convierta en pan. 4 Jesús le respondió: Escrito está: «NO SOLO DE PAN VIVIRÁ EL HOMBRE^a». 5 Llevándole a una altura^a, el diablo le mostró en un instante todos los reinos del mundo^1b. 6 Y el diablo le dijo: Todo este dominio y su gloria te daré; pues a mí me ha sido entregado^a, y a quien quiero se lo doy. 7 Por tanto, si te postras¹ delante de mí, todo será tuyo. 8 Respondiendo Jesús, le dijo: Escrito está: «AL SEÑOR TU DIOS ADORARÁS, Y A ÉL SOLO SERVIRÁS^a». 9 Entonces el diablo le llevó a Jerusalén y le puso sobre el pináculo del templo, y le dijo: Si eres Hijo de Dios, lánzate abajo desde aquí^a, 10 pues escrito está:«A SUS ÁNGELES TE ENCOMENDARÁ PARA QUE TE GUARDEN^a», 11 y:«EN LAS MANOS TE LLEVARÁN,NO SEA QUE TU PIE TROPIECE EN PIEDRA^a». 12 Respondiendo Jesús, le dijo: Se ha dicho: «NO TENTARAS¹ AL SEÑOR TU DIOS^a».

13 Cuando el diablo hubo acabado toda tentación, se alejó de Él esperando¹ un tiempo oportuno.

14 Jesús regresó a Galilea^a en el poder del Espíritu, y las nuevas¹ acerca de Él se divulgaron por toda aquella comarca^b. 15 Y enseñaba en sus sinagogas^a, siendo alabado por todos.

16 Llegó a Nazaret, donde se había criado^a, y según su costumbre, entró en la sinagoga^b el día de reposo, y se levantó a leer^c. 17 Le dieron el libro¹ del profeta Isaías, y abriendo el libro², halló el lugar donde estaba escrito:

20 Cerrando el libro^1a, lo devolvió al asistente y se sentó^b; y los ojos de todos en la sinagoga estaban fijos en Él. 21 Y comenzó a decirles: Hoy se ha cumplido esta Escritura que habéis oído¹. 22 Y todos hablaban bien¹ de Él y se maravillaban de las palabras llenas de gracia que salían de su boca, y decían: ¿No eseste el hijo de José^a? 23 Entonces Él les dijo: Sin duda me citaréis este refrán: «Médico, cúrate a ti mismo»; esto es, todo lo que oímos que se ha hecho en Capernaúm^a, hazlo también aquí en tu tierra^b. 24 Y dijo: En verdad os digo, que ningún profeta es bien recibido en su propia tierra^a. 25 Pero en verdad os digo: muchas viudas había en Israel en los días de Elías, cuando el cielo fue cerrado por tres años y seis meses^a y cuando hubo gran hambre sobre toda la tierra; 26 y sin embargo, a ninguna de ellas fue enviado Elías, sino a una mujer viuda de Sarepta, en la tierra de Sidón^a. 27 Y muchos leprosos había en Israel en tiempos del profeta Eliseo, pero ninguno de ellos fue limpiado, sino Naamán el sirio^a. 28 Y todos en la sinagoga se llenaron de ira cuando oyeron estas cosas, 29 y levantándose, le echaron fuera de la ciudad^a, y le llevaron hasta la cumbre del monte sobre el cual estaba edificada su ciudad para despeñarle. 30 Pero Él, pasando por en medio de ellos^a, se fue.

31 Y descendió a Capernaúm^a, ciudad de Galilea. ^bY les enseñaba en los días de reposo; 32 y se admiraban de su enseñanza^a porque su mensaje¹ era con autoridad^b. 33 Y estaba en la sinagoga un hombre poseído por el espíritu¹ de un demonio inmundo, y gritó a gran voz: 34 Déjanos ¿Qué tenemos que ver contigo^1a, Jesús de Nazaret²? ¿Has venido a destruirnos? Yo sé quién eres: el Santo de Dios^b. 35 Jesús entonces lo reprendió^a, diciendo: ¡Cállate y sal de él! Y después que el demonio lo derribó en medio de ellos, salió de él sin hacerle ningún daño. 36 Y todos se quedaron asombrados¹, y discutían entre sí, diciendo: ¿Qué mensaje eseste? Porque² con autoridad^a y poder manda a los espíritus inmundos y salen. 37 Y su fama¹ se divulgaba por todos los lugares de la región circunvecina^a.

38 ^aY levantándose, salió de la sinagoga y entró en casa de Simón. Y la suegra de Simón se hallaba sufriendo con una fiebre muy alta^b, y le rogaron por ella. 39 E inclinándose sobre ella, reprendió^a la fiebre, y la fiebre la dejó; y al instante ella se levantó y les servía.

40 ^aAl ponerse el sol, todos los que tenían enfermos de diversas enfermedades^b se los llevaban a Él; y poniendo Él las manos^c sobre cada uno de ellos, los sanaba^d. 41 También de muchos salían demonios, gritando y diciendo: ¡Tú eres el Hijo de Dios^a! Pero, reprendiéndolos^b, no les permitía hablar, porque sabían que Él era el Cristo^1c.

42 ^aCuando se hizo de día, salió y se fue a un lugar solitario; y las multitudes le buscaban, y llegaron adonde Él estaba y procuraron detenerle para que no se separara de ellos. 43 Pero Él les dijo: También a las otras ciudades debo anunciar las buenas nuevas del reino de Dios, porque para esto^a yo he sido enviado.

44 Y predicaba en las sinagogas de Judea^1a.

^aNow Jesus, full of and in perfect communication with the Holy Spirit, ^breturned from the Jordan and was led by the Spirit in the wilderness Matt 4:1-11 2 for ^aforty days, being tempted by the devil. And He ate nothing during those days, and when they ended, He was hungry. Deut 9:9; 1+@Kin 19:8 3 Then the devil said to Him, “If You are the Son of God, command this stone to turn into bread.” 4 Jesus replied to him, “It is written and forever remains written, ‘^aMAN SHALL NOT LIVE BY BREAD ALONE¹.’” Deut 8:3

5 ^aThen he led Jesus up to a high mountain and displayed before Him all the kingdoms of ^bthe inhabited earth and their magnificence in the twinkling of an eye. 6 And the devil said to Him, “I will give You all this realm and its glory its power, its renown; ^abecause it has been handed over to me, and I give it to whomever I wish. 7 Therefore if You worship before me, it will all be Yours.” 8 Jesus replied to him, “It is written and forever remains written, ‘^aYOU SHALL WORSHIP THE LORD YOUR GOD AND SERVE ONLY HIM.’” Deut 6:13; 10:20

9 ^aThen he led Jesus to Jerusalem and had Him stand on the pinnacle (highest point) of the temple, and said mockingly to Him, “If You are the Son of God, throw Yourself down from here; 10 for it is written and forever remains written,‘^aHE WILL COMMAND HIS ANGELS CONCERNING YOU TO GUARD and PROTECT YOU,’ 11 and,‘^aTHEY WILL LIFT YOU UP ON their HANDS,SO THAT YOU DO NOT STRIKE YOUR FOOT AGAINST A STONE.’” Ps 91:11, 12 12 Jesus replied to him, “It is said in Scripture, ‘^aYOU SHALL NOT TEMPT THE LORD YOUR GOD to prove Himself to you.’” Deut 6:16; Matt 4:7

13 When the devil had finished every temptation, he temporarily left Him until a more opportune time.

14 Then ^aJesus went back to Galilee in the power of the Spirit, and the ^bnews about Him spread through the entire region. 15 And He began ^ateaching in their synagogues and was praised and glorified and honored by all.

16 So He came to ^aNazareth, where He had been brought up; and as was His custom, ^bHe entered the synagogue on the Sabbath, and ^cstood up to read. 17 The scroll of the prophet Isaiah was handed to Him. He unrolled the scroll and found the place where it was written, Is 61:1, 2

20 Then He ^arolled up the scroll having stopped in the middle of the verse, gave it back to the attendant and ^bsat down to teach; and the eyes of all those in the synagogue were attentively fixed on Him. 21 He began speaking to them: “Today this Scripture has been fulfilled in your hearing and in your presence.” 22 And as He continued on they all were speaking well of Him, and were in awe and were wondering about the words of grace which were coming from His lips; and they were saying, “^aIs this not Joseph’s son?” 23 So He said to them, “You will no doubt quote this proverb to Me, ‘Physician, heal Yourself! Whatever miracles that we heard were done by You ^ain Capernaum, do here in ^bYour hometown as well.’” 24 Then He said, “I assure you and most solemnly say to you, ^ano prophet is welcome in his hometown. 25 But in truth I say to you, there were many widows in Israel ^ain the days of Elijah, when the sky was closed up for three years and six months, when a great famine came over all the land; 26 and yet Elijah was not sent by the Lord to a single one of them, but ^aonly to Zarephath in the land of ^bSidon, to a woman who was a widow. 1+@Kin 17:1, 8-16; 18:1 27 And there were many lepers in Israel in the time of Elisha the prophet; and not one of them was cleansed by being healed except ^aNaaman the Syrian.” 2+@Kin 5:1-14 28 As they heard these things about God’s grace to these two Gentiles, the people in the synagogue were filled with a great rage; 29 and they got up and ^adrove Him out of the city, and led Him to the crest of the hill on which their city had been built, in order to hurl Him down the cliff. 30 But ^apassing miraculously through the crowd, He went on His way.

31 Then ^aHe came down from the hills of Nazareth to ^bCapernaum, a city of Galilee on the shore of the sea, and He was teaching them on the Sabbath; Mark 1:21-28 32 and ^athey were surprised almost overwhelmed at His teaching, because ^bHis message was given with authority and power and great ability. 33 There was a man in the synagogue who was possessed by the spirit of an unclean demon; and he cried out with a loud and terrible voice, 34 “Let us alone! ^1aWhat business do we have in common with each other, Jesus of ^bNazareth? Have You come to destroy us? I know who You are—^cthe Holy One of God!” 35 But Jesus ^arebuked him, saying, “Be silent (muzzled, gagged) and come out of him!” And when the demon had thrown the man down among them, he came out of him without injuring him in any way. 36 They were all astonished and in awe, and began saying to one another, “What is this message? For ^awith authority and power He commands the unclean spirits and they come out!” 37 And ^athe news about Him spread into every place in the surrounding district (Galilee) .

38 ^aThen Jesus got up and left the synagogue and went to Simon’s (Peter’s) house. Now Simon’s mother-in-law was ^bsuffering from a high fever, and they asked Him to help her. Matt 8:14-17; Mark 1:29-34 39 Standing over her, He ^arebuked the fever, and it left her; and immediately she got up and began serving them as her guests.

40 ^aWhile ^bthe sun was setting marking the end of the Sabbath day, all those who had any who were sick with various diseases brought them to Jesus; and ^claying His hands on each one of them, He was ^dhealing them exhibiting His authority as Messiah. Matt 8:16, 17; Mark 1:32-34 41 Demons also were coming out of many people, shouting, “You are ^athe Son of God!” But He ^brebuked them and would ^cnot allow them to speak, because they knew that He was the Christ (the Messiah, the Anointed) .

42 ^aWhen daybreak came, Jesus left Simon Peter’s house and went to a secluded place; and the crowds were searching for Him, and they came to Him and tried to keep Him from leaving them. 43 But He said, “I must preach the good news of the kingdom of God to the other cities also, ^abecause I was sent for this purpose.”

44 So He continued preaching in the synagogues ^aof Judea the country of the Jews, including Galilee.

16 And He came to ^aNazareth, where He had been brought up; and as was His custom, ^bHe entered the synagogue on the Sabbath, and ^cstood up to read. 17 And the ¹book of the prophet Isaiah was handed to Him. And He opened the ²book and found the place where it was written,
