Vino palabra del SEÑOR por segunda vez a Jonás, diciendo: 2 Levántate, ve a Nínive, la gran ciudad^a, y proclama en¹ ella el mensaje que yo te diré^b. 3 Y Jonás se levantó y fue a Nínive conforme a la palabra del SEÑOR. Y Nínive era una ciudad sumamente grande^1a, de un recorrido de tres días. 4 Jonás comenzó a recorrer¹ la ciudad camino de un día, y proclamaba, diciendo^a: Dentro de cuarenta días Nínive será arrasada.

5 Y los habitantes¹ de Nínive creyeron en Dios, y proclamaron ayuno^a y se vistieron de cilicio desde el mayor hasta el menor de ellos. 6 Cuando llegó la noticia al rey de Nínive, se levantó de su trono, se despojó de su manto, se cubrió de cilicio y se sentó sobre ceniza^1a. 7 E hizo proclamar y anunciar en Nínive, por decreto del rey y de sus grandes, diciendo: Ni hombre ni bestia, ni buey ni oveja prueben cosa alguna; no pasten ni beban agua^a, 8 sino cúbranse de cilicio hombres y animales, y clamen a Dios^a con fuerza, y vuélvase cada uno de su mal camino^b y de la violencia que hay en sus manos¹. 9 ¡Quién sabe! Quizá Dios se vuelva, se arrepienta y aparte el ardor de su ira, y no perezcamos^a.

10 Y vio Dios sus acciones, que se habían apartado de su mal camino^a; entonces se arrepintió Dios del mal que había dicho que les haría^b, y no lo hizo.

Now the word of the LORD came to Jonah the second time, saying, 2 “Go to ^aNineveh the great city and ^bdeclare to it the message which I am going to tell you.” 3 So Jonah went to Nineveh in accordance with the word of the LORD. Now Nineveh was an ^aexceedingly great city, a ¹three days’ walk about sixty miles in circumference. 4 Then on the first day’s walk, Jonah ¹began to go through the city, and he ^acalled out and said, “Forty days more remain and then Nineveh will be overthrown!”

5 The people of Nineveh believed and trusted in God; and they proclaimed a ^afast and put on sackcloth in penitent mourning, from the greatest even to the least of them. 6 When word reached the king of Nineveh of Jonah’s message from God, he rose from his throne, took off his robe, ^acovered himself with sackcloth and sat in the dust in repentance. 7 He issued a ^aproclamation and it said, “In Nineveh, by the decree of the king and his nobles: No man, animal, herd, or flock is to taste anything. They are not to eat or drink water. 8 But both man and animal must be covered with sackcloth; and every one is to ^acall on God earnestly and forcefully that each may ^bturn from his wicked way and from the violence that is in his hands. 9 ^aWho knows, God may turn in compassion and relent and withdraw His burning anger (judgment) so that we will not perish.” Joel 2:13, 14

10 When God saw their deeds, that they ^aturned from their wicked way, then ^bGod had compassion and relented concerning the disaster which He had declared that He would bring upon them. And He did not do it.

Now the word of the LORD came to Jonah the second time, saying, 2 “Arise, go to ^aNineveh the great city and ^bproclaim to it the proclamation which I am going to tell you.” 3 So Jonah arose and went to Nineveh according to the word of the LORD. Now Nineveh was ¹an ^aexceedingly great city, a three days’ walk. 4 Then Jonah began to go through the city one day’s walk; and he ^acried out and said, “Yet forty days and Nineveh will be overthrown.”

5 Then the people of Nineveh believed in God; and they called a ^afast and put on sackcloth from the greatest to the least of them. 6 When the word reached the king of Nineveh, he arose from his throne, laid aside his robe from him, ^acovered himself with sackcloth and sat on the ¹ashes. 7 He issued a ^aproclamation and it said, “In Nineveh by the decree of the king and his nobles: Do not let man, beast, herd, or flock taste a thing. Do not let them eat or drink water. 8 But both man and beast must be covered with sackcloth; and let ¹men ^acall on God earnestly that each may ^bturn from his wicked way and from the violence which is in ²his hands. 9 ^aWho knows, God may turn and relent and withdraw His burning anger so that we will not perish.”

10 When God saw their deeds, that they ^aturned from their wicked way, then ^bGod relented concerning the calamity which He had declared He would ¹bring upon them. And He did not do it.
