Por tanto, cuando el Señor^a supo que los fariseos habían oído que Él¹ hacía y bautizaba^b más discípulos que Juan 2 (aunque Jesús mismo no bautizaba^a, sino sus discípulos^b), 3 salió de Judea^a y partió otra vez para Galilea^b. 4 Y tenía que pasar por Samaria^a. 5 Llegó*, pues, a una ciudad de Samaria^a llamada Sicar, cerca de la parcela de tierra que Jacob dio a su hijo José^b; 6 y allí estaba el pozo de Jacob. Entonces Jesús, cansado del camino, se sentó¹ junto al pozo. Era como la hora sexta². 7 Una mujer de Samaria vino* a sacar agua, y Jesús le dijo*: Dame de beber. 8 Pues sus discípulos^a habían ido a la ciudad^b a comprar alimentos. 9 Entonces la mujer samaritana^a le dijo*: ¿Cómo es que tú, siendo judío, me pides de beber a mí, que soy samaritana? (Porque los judíos no tienen tratos con los samaritanos^b.) 10 Respondió Jesús y le dijo: Si tú conocieras el don de Dios, y quién es el que te dice: «Dame de beber», tú le habrías pedido a Él, y Él te hubiera dado agua viva^a. 11 Ella le dijo*: Señor, no tienes con qué sacarla, y el pozo es hondo; ¿de dónde, pues, tienes esa agua viva^a? 12 ¿Acaso eres tú mayor que nuestro padre Jacob, que nos dio el pozo^a del cual bebió él mismo, y sus hijos, y sus ganados? 13 Respondió Jesús y le dijo: Todo el que beba de esta agua volverá a tener sed, 14 pero el que beba del agua que yo le daré, no tendrá sed jamás^a, sino que el agua que yo le daré se convertirá en él en una fuente de agua que brota para vida eterna^b. 15 La mujer le dijo*: Señor, dame esa agua, para que no tenga sed^a ni venga hasta aquí a sacarla. 16 Él le dijo*: Ve, llama a tu marido y ven acá. 17 Respondió la mujer y le dijo: No tengo marido. Jesús le dijo*: Bien has dicho: «No tengo marido», 18 porque cinco maridos has tenido, y el que ahora tienes no es tu marido; en eso has dicho la verdad. 19 La mujer le dijo*: Señor, me parece que tú eres profeta^a. 20 Nuestros padres adoraron^a en este monte^b, y vosotros decís que en Jerusalén^c está el lugar donde se debe adorar. 21 Jesús le dijo*: Mujer, créeme; la hora viene^a cuando ni en este monte ni en Jerusalén adoraréis al Padre^b. 22 Vosotros adoráis lo que no conocéis^a; nosotros adoramos lo que conocemos, porque la salvación viene¹ de los judíos^b. 23 Pero la hora viene, y ahora es^a, cuando los verdaderos adoradores adorarán al Padre en espíritu^b y en verdad; porque ciertamente a los tales el Padre busca que le adoren. 24 Dios es espíritu¹, y los que le adoran deben adorarle en espíritu^a y en verdad. 25 La mujer le dijo*: Sé que el Mesías^a viene (el que es llamado Cristo^b); cuando Él venga nos declarará todo. 26 Jesús le dijo*: Yo soy^a, el que habla contigo.

27 En esto llegaron sus discípulos^a y se admiraron de que hablara con una mujer, pero ninguno le preguntó: ¿Qué tratas de averiguar? o: ¿Por qué hablas con ella? 28 Entonces la mujer dejó su cántaro, fue a la ciudad y dijo* a los hombres: 29 Venid, ved a un hombre que me ha dicho todo lo que yo he hecho^a. ¿No seráeste el Cristo^1b? 30 Y salieron de la ciudad e iban a Él. 31 Mientras tanto, los discípulos le rogaban, diciendo: Rabí^1a, come. 32 Pero Él les dijo: Yo tengo para comer una comida que vosotros no sabéis. 33 Los discípulos^a entonces se decían entre sí: ¿Le habrá traído alguien de comer? 34 Jesús les dijo*: Mi comida es hacer la voluntad del que me envió^a y llevar a cabo su obra^b. 35 ¿No decís vosotros: «Todavía faltan cuatro meses, y después viene la siega»? He aquí, yo os digo: Alzad vuestros ojos y ved los campos que ya están blancos para la siega^a. 36 Ya el segador recibe salario^a y recoge fruto^b para vida eterna^c, para que el que siembra se regocije juntamente con el que siega. 37 Porque en este caso el dicho es verdadero: «Uno es el que siembra y otro el que siega^a». 38 Yo os envié a segar lo que no habéis trabajado; otros han trabajado y vosotros habéis entrado en su labor.

39 Y de aquella ciudad^a, muchos de los samaritanos creyeron en Él por la palabra de la mujer que daba testimonio, diciendo: Él me dijo todo lo que yo he hecho^b. 40 De modo que cuando los samaritanos vinieron a Él, le rogaban que se quedara con ellos; y se quedó allí dos días. 41 Y muchos más creyeron por su palabra, 42 y decían a la mujer: Ya no creemos por lo que tú has dicho¹, porque nosotros mismos le hemos oído, y sabemos queeste es en verdad el Salvador del mundo^a.

43 Después de los dos días^a, salió de allí para Galilea. 44 Porque Jesús mismo dio testimonio de que a un profeta no se le honra en su propia tierra^a. 45 Así que cuando llegó a Galilea, los galileos le recibieron, pues habían visto todo lo que hizo en Jerusalén durante la fiesta^a; porque ellos también habían ido a la fiesta.

46 Entonces vino otra vez a Caná de Galilea^a, donde había convertido el agua en vino^b. Y había allí cierto oficial del rey cuyo hijo estaba enfermo en Capernaúm^c. 47 Cuando él oyó que Jesús había venido de Judea a Galilea^a, fue a su encuentro y le suplicaba que bajara y sanara a su hijo, porque estaba al borde de la muerte. 48 Jesús entonces le dijo: Si no veis señales¹ y prodigios^a, no creeréis. 49 El oficial del rey le dijo*: Señor, baja antes de que mi hijo muera. 50 Jesús le dijo*: Vete, tu hijo vive. Y el hombre creyó la palabra que Jesús le dijo y se fue^a. 51 Y mientras bajaba, sus siervos le salieron al encuentro y le dijeron que su hijo¹ vivía. 52 Entonces les preguntó a qué hora había empezado a mejorar. Y le respondieron: Ayer a la hora séptima¹ se le quitó² la fiebre. 53 El padre entonces se dio cuenta que fue a la hora en que Jesús le dijo: Tu hijo vive. Y creyó él y toda su casa^a. 54 Esta¹ fue la segunda señal^2a que Jesús hizo cuando fue de Judea a Galilea^b.

So when ^athe Lord learned that the Pharisees had been told that Jesus was making and ^bbaptizing more disciples than John 2 (although ^aJesus Himself was not baptizing, but His ^bdisciples were), 3 He left ^aJudea and ^breturned again to Galilee. 4 Now ¹He had to go through ^2aSamaria. 5 So He arrived at a ^aSamaritan town called Sychar, near ^bthe tract of land that ^cJacob gave to his son Joseph; 6 and Jacob’s well was there. So Jesus, tired as He was from His journey, sat down by the well. It was then about the sixth hour (noon) .

7 Then a woman from Samaria came to draw water. Jesus said to her, “Give Me a drink”— 8 For His ^adisciples had gone off into ^bthe city to buy food— 9 The ^aSamaritan woman asked Him, “How is it that You, being a Jew, ask me, a ¹Samaritan woman, for a drink?” (For ^bJews have nothing to do with Samaritans.) 10 Jesus answered her, “If you knew about God’s gift of eternal life, and who it is who says, ‘Give Me a drink,’ you would have asked Him instead, and He would have given you ^aliving water (eternal life) .” 11 She said to Him, “Sir, ¹You have nothing to draw with no bucket and rope and the well is deep. Where then do You get that ^aliving water? 12 Are You greater than our father ¹Jacob, who ^agave us the well, and who used to drink from it himself, and his sons and his cattle also?” 13 Jesus answered her, “Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again. 14 But whoever drinks the water that I give him ^awill never be thirsty again. But the water that I give him will become in him a spring of water satisfying his thirst for God welling up continually flowing, bubbling within him to ^beternal life.”

15 The woman said to Him, “Sir, ^agive me this water, so that I will not get thirsty nor have to continually come all the way here to draw.” 16 At this, Jesus said, “Go, call your husband and come back.” 17 The woman answered, “I do not have a husband.” Jesus said to her, “You have correctly said, ‘I do not have a husband’; 18 for you have had five husbands, and the man you are now living with is not your ¹husband. You have said this truthfully.” 19 The woman said to Him, “Sir, I see that You are ^aa prophet. 20 ^aOur fathers worshiped on ^bthis mountain, but you Jews say that the place where one ought to worship is in ^cJerusalem at the temple.” 21 Jesus replied, “Woman, believe Me, ^aa time is coming when God’s kingdom comes when you will worship the Father ^bneither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem. 22 ^aYou Samaritans do not know what you worship; we Jews do know what we worship, for ^bsalvation is from the Jews. 23 But ^aa time is coming and is already here when the true worshipers will worship the Father ^bin spirit from the heart, the inner self and in truth; for the Father seeks such people to be His worshipers. 24 God is spirit the Source of life, yet invisible to mankind, and those who worship Him must worship ^ain spirit and truth.” 25 The woman said to Him, “I know that ^aMessiah is coming (^bHe who is called Christ—the Anointed); when that One comes, He will tell us everything we need to know.” 26 Jesus said to her, “^aI who speak to you, am He (the Messiah) .”

27 Just then His ^adisciples came, and they were surprised to find Him talking with a woman. However, no one said, “What are You asking about?” or, “Why are You talking to her?” 28 Then the woman left her water jar, and went into the city and began telling the people, 29 “Come, see a man ^awho told me all the things that I have done! Can ^bthis be the Christ (the Messiah, the Anointed) ?” 30 So the people left the city and were coming to Him.

31 Meanwhile, the disciples were urging Jesus to have a meal, saying, “^aRabbi (Teacher) , eat.” 32 But He told them, “I have food to eat that you do not know about.” 33 So the ^adisciples said to one another, “Has anyone brought Him something to eat?” 34 Jesus said to them, “My food is to ^ado the will of Him who sent Me and to ^bcompletely finish His work. 35 Do you not say, ‘It is still four months until the harvest comes?’ Look, I say to you, raise your eyes and look at the fields and see, they are white ^afor harvest. 36 Already the reaper is receiving his ^awages and he is gathering ^bfruit for ^ceternal life; so that he who plants and he who reaps may rejoice together. 37 For in this case the saying is true, ‘^aOne person sows and another reaps.’ 38 I sent you to reap a crop for which you have not worked. Others have worked and you have been privileged to reap the results of their work.”

39 Now many Samaritans from ^athat city believed in Him and trusted Him as Savior because of what the woman said when she testified, “^bHe told me all the things that I have done.” 40 So when the Samaritans came to Jesus, they asked Him to remain with them; and He stayed there two days. 41 Many more believed in Him with a deep, abiding trust because of His word His personal message to them; 42 and they told the woman, “We no longer believe just because of what you said; for now we have heard Him for ourselves and know with confident assurance that this One is truly ^athe Savior of all the world.”

43 After ^athe two days He went on from there into Galilee. 44 For Jesus Himself declared that ^aa prophet has no honor in his own country. 45 So when He arrived in Galilee, the Galileans ¹welcomed Him, since they ^ahad seen all the things that He did in Jerusalem at the feast; for they too came to the feast.

46 So Jesus came again to ^aCana of Galilee, ^bwhere He had turned the water into wine. And there was a ¹certain royal official whose son was sick in ^cCapernaum. 47 Having heard that Jesus had come back ^afrom Judea to Galilee, he ¹went to meet Him and began asking Him to come down and heal his son; for he was at the point of death. 48 Then Jesus said to him, “Unless you people see miraculous ^asigns and ^bwonders, you simply will not believe.” 49 The royal official pleaded with Him, “Sir, do come down at once before my child dies!” 50 Jesus said to him, “^aGo; your son lives!” The man believed what Jesus said to him and started home. 51 As he was already going down the road, his servants met him and reported that his son was living and was healthy. 52 So he asked them at what time he began to get better. They said, “Yesterday during the seventh hour (1 p.m.) the fever left him.” 53 Then the father realized that it was at that very hour when Jesus had said to him, “Your son lives”; and he and ^ahis entire household believed and confidently trusted in Him as Savior. 54 This is the ^asecond sign (attesting miracle) that Jesus performed in Cana after He had ^bcome from Judea to Galilee revealing that He is the Messiah.

Therefore when ^athe Lord knew that the Pharisees had heard that Jesus was making and ^bbaptizing more disciples than John 2 (although ^aJesus Himself was not baptizing, but His ^bdisciples were), 3 He left ^aJudea and went away ^bagain into Galilee. 4 And He had to pass through ^aSamaria. 5 So He *came to a city of ^aSamaria called Sychar, near ^bthe parcel of ground that ^cJacob gave to his son Joseph; 6 and Jacob’s well was there. So Jesus, being wearied from His journey, was sitting thus by the well. It was about ¹the sixth hour.

7 There *came a woman of Samaria to draw water. Jesus *said to her, “Give Me a drink.” 8 For His ^adisciples had gone away into ^bthe city to buy food. 9 Therefore the ^aSamaritan woman *said to Him, “How is it that You, being a Jew, ask me for a drink since I am a Samaritan woman?” (For ^bJews have no dealings with Samaritans.) 10 Jesus answered and said to her, “If you knew the gift of God, and who it is who says to you, ‘Give Me a drink,’ you would have asked Him, and He would have given you ^aliving water.” 11 She *said to Him, “¹Sir, You have nothing to draw with and the well is deep; where then do You get that ^aliving water? 12 You are not greater than our father Jacob, are You, who ^agave us the well, and drank of it himself and his sons and his cattle?” 13 Jesus answered and said to her, “Everyone who drinks of this water will thirst again; 14 but whoever drinks of the water that I will give him ^ashall never thirst; but the water that I will give him will become in him a well of water springing up to ^beternal life.”

15 The woman *said to Him, “¹Sir, ^agive me this water, so I will not be thirsty nor come all the way here to draw.” 16 He *said to her, “Go, call your husband and come here.” 17 The woman answered and said, “I have no husband.” Jesus *said to her, “You have correctly said, ‘I have no husband’; 18 for you have had five husbands, and the one whom you now have is not your husband; this you have said truly.” 19 The woman *said to Him, “¹Sir, I perceive that You are ^aa prophet. 20 ^aOur fathers worshiped in ^bthis mountain, and you people say that ^cin Jerusalem is the place where men ought to worship.” 21 Jesus *said to her, “Woman, believe Me, ^aan hour is coming when ^bneither in this mountain nor in Jerusalem will you worship the Father. 22 ^aYou worship what you do not know; we worship what we know, for ^bsalvation is from the Jews. 23 But ^aan hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father ^bin spirit and truth; for such people the Father seeks to be His worshipers. 24 God is ¹spirit, and those who worship Him must worship ^ain spirit and truth.” 25 The woman *said to Him, “I know that ^aMessiah is coming ^b(He who is called Christ); when that One comes, He will declare all things to us.” 26 Jesus *said to her, “^aI who speak to you am He.”

27 At this point His ^adisciples came, and they were amazed that He had been speaking with a woman, yet no one said, “What do You seek?” or, “Why do You speak with her?” 28 So the woman left her waterpot, and went into the city and *said to the men, 29 “Come, see a man ^awho told me all the things that I have done; ^bthis is not ¹the Christ, is it?” 30 They went out of the city, and were coming to Him.

31 Meanwhile the disciples were urging Him, saying, “^aRabbi, eat.” 32 But He said to them, “I have food to eat that you do not know about.” 33 So the ^adisciples were saying to one another, “No one brought Him anything to eat, did he?” 34 Jesus *said to them, “My food is to ^ado the will of Him who sent Me and to ^baccomplish His work. 35 Do you not say, ‘There are yet four months, and then comes the harvest’? Behold, I say to you, lift up your eyes and look on the fields, that they are white ^afor harvest. 36 Already he who reaps is receiving ^awages and is gathering ^bfruit for ^clife eternal; so that he who sows and he who reaps may rejoice together. 37 For in this case the saying is true, ‘^aOne sows and another reaps.’ 38 I sent you to reap that for which you have not labored; others have labored and you have entered into their labor.”

39 From ^athat city many of the Samaritans believed in Him because of the word of the woman who testified, “^bHe told me all the things that I have done.” 40 So when the Samaritans came to Jesus, they were asking Him to stay with them; and He stayed there two days. 41 Many more believed because of His word; 42 and they were saying to the woman, “It is no longer because of what you said that we believe, for we have heard for ourselves and know that this One is indeed ^athe Savior of the world.”

43 After ^athe two days He went forth from there into Galilee. 44 For Jesus Himself testified that ^aa prophet has no honor in his own country. 45 So when He came to Galilee, the Galileans received Him, ^ahaving seen all the things that He did in Jerusalem at the feast; for they themselves also went to the feast.

46 Therefore He came again to ^aCana of Galilee ^bwhere He had made the water wine. And there was a royal official whose son was sick at ^cCapernaum. 47 When he heard that Jesus had come ^aout of Judea into Galilee, he went to Him and was imploring Him to come down and heal his son; for he was at the point of death. 48 So Jesus said to him, “Unless you people see ^1asigns and ^bwonders, you simply will not believe.” 49 The royal official *said to Him, “¹Sir, come down before my child dies.” 50 Jesus *said to him, “^aGo; your son lives.” The man believed the word that Jesus spoke to him and started off. 51 As he was now going down, his slaves met him, saying that his ¹son was living. 52 So he inquired of them the hour when he began to get better. Then they said to him, “Yesterday at the ¹seventh hour the fever left him.” 53 So the father knew that it was at that hour in which Jesus said to him, “Your son lives”; and he himself believed and ^ahis whole household. 54 This is again a ^asecond ¹sign that Jesus performed when He had ^bcome out of Judea into Galilee.
