Reproches de Elifaz

Entonces respondió Elifaz temanita, y dijo:

2 Si alguien osara hablarte, ¿te pondrías impaciente?Pero ¿quién puede abstenerse de hablar¹^a?3 He aquí, tú has exhortado a muchos,y las manos débiles has fortalecido^a.4 Al que tropezaba tus palabras han levantado¹,y las rodillas débiles² has robustecido.5 Pero ahora que te ha llegado a ti, te impacientas^a;te toca a ti, y te desalientas^b.6 ¿No es tu temor¹ a Dios^a tu confianza^b,y la integridad de tus caminos tu esperanza?

7 Recuerda ahora, ¿quién siendo inocente ha perecido jamás?¿O dónde han sido destruidos los rectos^a?8 Por lo que yo he visto, los que aran iniquidady los que siembran aflicción, eso siegan^a.9 Por el aliento de Dios perecen^a,y por la explosión¹ de su ira son consumidos^b.10 El rugido del león, el bramido de la fiera¹y los dientes de los leoncillos son quebrantados^a.11 El león perece por falta de presa^a,y los cachorros de la leona se dispersan^b.

12 Una palabra me fue traída furtivamente^a,y mi oído percibió un susurro^b de ella.13 Entre pensamientos inquietantes de visiones nocturnas,cuando el sueño profundo cae sobre los hombres^a,14 me sobrevino un espanto, un temblorque hizo estremecer todos¹ mis huesos.15 Entonces un espíritu pasó cerca de¹ mi rostro,y el pelo de mi piel² se erizó.16 Algo se detuvo, pero no pude reconocer su aspecto;una figura estaba delante de mis ojos,hubo silencio, después oí una voz:17 «¿Es el mortal justo delante de Dios^a?¿Es el hombre puro delante de su Hacedor^b?18 »Dios no confía ni aún en sus propios siervos;y a sus ángeles atribuye errores^a.19 »¡Cuánto más a los que habitan en casas de barro^a,cuyos cimientos están en el polvo^b,que son aplastados como¹ la polilla!20 »Entre la mañana y la tarde son hechos pedazos^a;sin que nadie se dé cuenta, perecen para siempre^b.21 »¿No les es arrancada la cuerda de su tienda^a?Mueren, mas sin sabiduría^b».

Eliphaz: Innocent Do Not Suffer

Then Eliphaz the Temanite answered and said,

2 “If we dare to converse with you, will you be impatient or offended?But ^awho can restrain himself from speaking?3 “Behold, ^ayou have admonished and instructed many,And you have strengthened weak hands.4 “Your words have helped the one who was stumbling to stand,And you have strengthened feeble knees.5 “But now ¹adversity comes upon you, and you are ^aimpatient and intolerant;It ^btouches you, and you are horrified.6 “Is not your ^afear of God ^byour confidence,And is not the integrity and uprightness of your ways your hope?

7 “Remember now, ^awho, being innocent, ever perished?Or where and in what circumstances were those upright and in right standing with God destroyed?8 “As I have seen, ^athose who plow wickednessAnd those who sow trouble and harm harvest it.9 “By ^athe breath of God they perish,And ^bby the blast of His anger they are consumed.10 “The ^aroaring of the lion and the voice of the fierce lion,And the teeth of the young lions are broken.11 “The ^alion perishes for lack of prey,And the ^bcubs of the lioness are scattered.

12 “Now a word ^awas secretly brought to me,And my ear received a ^bwhisper of it.13 “Amid ^adisquieting thoughts from the visions of the night,When deep sleep falls on men,14 Dread and trembling came upon me,Which made all my bones shake.15 “Then a spirit passed before my face;The hair on my skin stood on end!16 “The spirit stood still, but I could not discern its appearance;A form was before my eyes;There was silence, and then I heard a voice, saying:17 ‘Can mortal ^aman be just before God or be more righteous than He?Can a man be pure before his ^bMaker or be more cleansed than He? 1+@John 1:7; Rev 1:518 ‘^aGod puts no trust or confidence, even in His heavenly servants,And He charges His angels with error.19 ‘How much more will He blame and charge those who dwell in ^ahouses (bodies) of clay,Whose ^bfoundations are in the dust,Who are crushed like a moth.20 ‘^aBetween morning and evening they are broken in pieces and destroyed;Unobserved and unnoticed, they ^bperish forever.21 ‘Is not their ^atent-cord drawn up within them so that the tent collapses?Do they not die, and yet ^bwithout acquiring wisdom?’

2 “If one ventures a word with you, will you become impatient?But ^awho can refrain ¹from speaking?3 “Behold ^ayou have admonished many,And you have strengthened weak hands.4 “Your words have ¹helped the tottering to stand,And you have strengthened ²feeble knees.5 “But now it has come to you, and you ^aare impatient;It ^btouches you, and you are dismayed.6 “Is not your ¹^afear of God ^byour confidence,And the integrity of your ways your hope?

7 “Remember now, ^awho ever perished being innocent?Or where were the upright destroyed?8 “According to what I have seen, ^athose who plow iniquityAnd those who sow trouble harvest it.9 “By ^athe breath of God they perish,And ^bby the ¹blast of His anger they come to an end.10 “The ^aroaring of the lion and the voice of the fierce lion,And the teeth of the young lions are broken.11 “The ^alion perishes for lack of prey,And the ^bwhelps of the lioness are scattered.

12 “Now a word ^awas brought to me stealthily,And my ear received a ^bwhisper of it.13 “Amid disquieting ^athoughts from the visions of the night,When deep sleep falls on men,14 Dread came upon me, and trembling,And made ¹all my bones shake.15 “Then a ¹spirit passed by my face;The hair of my flesh bristled up.16 “It stood still, but I could not discern its appearance;A form was before my eyes;There was silence, then I heard a voice:17 ‘Can ^amankind be just ¹before God?Can a man be pure ²before his ^bMaker?18 ‘^aHe puts no trust even in His servants;And against His angels He charges error.19 ‘How much more those who dwell in ^ahouses of clay,Whose ^bfoundation is in the dust,Who are crushed before the moth!20 ‘^aBetween morning and evening they are broken in pieces;Unobserved, they ^bperish forever.21 ‘Is not their ^atent-cord plucked up within them?They die, yet ^bwithout wisdom.’
