Porque todo sumo sacerdote tomado de entre los hombres^a es constituido a favor de los hombres en las cosas que a Dios se refieren^b, para presentar ofrendas y sacrificios^c por los pecados^d; 2 y puede¹ obrar con benignidad^2a para con los ignorantes^b y extraviados^c, puesto que él mismo está sujeto a flaquezas^d; 3 y por esa causa está obligado a ofrecer sacrificios por los pecados^a, tanto por sí mismo como por el pueblo^b. 4 Y nadie toma este honor para sí mismo^a, sino que lo recibe cuando es llamado por Dios, así como lo fue Aarón^b. 5 De la misma manera, Cristo no se glorificó a sí mismo^a para hacerse Sumo Sacerdote^b, sino que lo glorificó el que le dijo^c:HIJO MÍO ERES TÚ,YO TE HE ENGENDRADO HOY^d; 6 como también dice en otro pasaje:TÚ ERES SACERDOTE PARA SIEMPRESEGÚN EL ORDEN DE MELQUISEDEC^a. 7 Cristo¹, en los días de su carne, habiendo ofrecido oraciones y súplicas^a con gran clamor y lágrimas^b al que podía librarle^2c de la muerte, fue oído a causa de su temor reverente^d; 8 y aunque era Hijo^a, aprendió obediencia^b por lo que padeció; 9 y habiendo sido hecho perfecto^a, vino a ser fuente¹ de eterna salvación para todos los que le obedecen, 10 siendo constituido por Dios sumo sacerdote^a según el orden de Melquisedec^b.

11 Acerca de esto¹ tenemos mucho que decir, y es difícil de explicar, puesto que os habéis hecho tardos para oír. 12 Pues aunque ya¹ debierais ser maestros, otra vez tenéis necesidad de que alguien os enseñe los principios^a elementales^2b de los oráculos de Dios^c, y habéis llegado a tener necesidad de leche^d y no de alimento sólido. 13 Porque todo el que tomasolo leche, no está acostumbrado a la palabra de justicia, porque es niño^a. 14 Pero el alimento sólido es para los adultos^1a, los cuales por la práctica tienen los sentidos ejercitados^b para discernir el bien y el mal^c.

For every high priest ^achosen from among men is appointed to act on behalf of men in ^bthings relating to God, so that he may ^coffer both gifts and sacrifices ^dfor sins. 2 ^aHe is able to deal gently with the spiritually ^bignorant and ^cmisguided, since he is also ^dsubject to human weakness; 3 and because of this human weakness he is required to offer sacrifices ^afor sins, for himself as well ^bas for the people. 4 And besides, ^aone does not appropriate for himself the honor of being high priest, but he who is called by God, just ^bas Aaron was.

5 So too Christ ^adid not glorify Himself so as to be made a ^bhigh priest, but He was exalted and appointed by the One who ^csaid to Him,“^dYOU ARE MY SON,TODAY I HAVE BEGOTTEN (fathered) YOU declared Your authority and rule over the nations”; Ps 2:7 6 just as He also says in another place,“^aYOU ARE A PRIEST appointed FOREVERACCORDING TO ^bTHE ORDER OF ¹MELCHIZEDEK.” Ps 110:4 7 In the days of His earthly life, ^aJesus offered up both specific petitions and urgent supplications for that which He needed with ^bfervent crying and tears to the One who was always ^cable to save Him from death, and He was heard because of His ^dreverent submission toward God His sinlessness and His unfailing determination to do the Father’s will. 8 Although He was ^aa Son who had never been disobedient to the Father, He learned active, special ^bobedience through what He suffered. 9 And having been made ^aperfect uniquely equipped and prepared as Savior and retaining His integrity amid opposition, He became the source of eternal salvation an eternal inheritance to all those who obey Him, Is 45:17 10 being designated by God as ^aHigh Priest according to ^bthe order of ¹Melchizedek. Ps 110:4

11 Concerning this we have much to say, and it is hard to explain, since you have become dull and sluggish in your spiritual hearing and disinclined to listen. 12 For though by this time you ought to be teachers because of the time you have had to learn these truths, you actually need someone to teach you again ^athe ^belementary principles of God’s ^cword from the beginning, and you have come to be continually in need of ^dmilk, not solid food. 13 For everyone who lives on milk is doctrinally inexperienced and unskilled in the word of righteousness, since he is a spiritual ^ainfant. 14 But solid food is for ^athe spiritually mature, whose senses are ^btrained by practice to ^cdistinguish between what is morally good and what is evil.
