^aPero el primer día de la semana, al rayar el alba, las mujeres vinieron al sepulcro trayendo las especias aromáticas que habían preparado. 2 Y encontraron que la piedra había sido removida del sepulcro, 3 y cuando entraron, no hallaron el cuerpo del Señor Jesús^a. 4 Y aconteció que estando ellas perplejas por esto, de pronto¹ se pusieron junto a ellas dos varones^a en vestiduras resplandecientes^b; 5 y estando ellas aterrorizadas e inclinados sus rostros a tierra, ellos les dijeron: ¿Por qué buscáis entre los muertos al que vive? 6 No está aquí, sino que ha resucitado^a. 13 Y he aquí que aquel mismo día dos de ellos iban a una aldea^a llamada Emaús, que estaba como a once kilómetros¹ de Jerusalén. 14 Y conversaban entre sí acerca de todas estas cosas que habían acontecido. 15 Y sucedió que mientras conversaban y discutían, Jesús mismo se acercó y caminaba con ellos. 16 Pero sus ojos estaban velados¹ para que no le reconocieran^a. 17 Y Él les dijo: ¿Qué discusiones¹ son estas que tenéis entre vosotros mientras vais andando? Y ellos se detuvieron, con semblante triste. 18 Respondiendo uno de ellos, llamado Cleofas, le dijo: ¿Eres tú el único visitante en Jerusalén que no sabe¹ las cosas que en ella han acontecido en estos días? 19 Entonces Él les dijo: ¿Qué cosas? Y ellos le dijeron: Las referentes a Jesús el Nazareno^a, que fue un profeta^1b poderoso en obra y en palabra delante de Dios y de todo el pueblo; 20 y cómo los principales sacerdotes y nuestros gobernantes^a le entregaron a sentencia de muerte y le crucificaron. 21 Pero nosotros esperábamos que Él era el que iba a redimir a Israel^a. Pero además de todo esto, este es el tercer día desde que estas cosas acontecieron. 22 Y¹ también algunas mujeres de entre nosotros nos asombraron; pues cuando fueron de madrugada al sepulcro^a, 23 y al no hallar su cuerpo, vinieron diciendo que también habían visto una aparición de ángeles que decían que Él vivía. 24 Algunos de los que estaban con nosotros fueron al sepulcro, y lo hallaron tal como también las mujeres habían dicho; pero a Él no le vieron. 25 Entonces Jesús¹ les dijo: ¡Oh insensatos y tardos de corazón para creer todo lo que los profetas han dicho^a! 26 ¿No era necesario que el Cristo¹ padeciera todas estas cosas y entrara en su gloria^a? 27 Y comenzando por¹ Moisés^a y continuando con² todos los profetas^b, les explicó lo referente a Él en todas las Escrituras. 28 Se acercaron a la aldea adonde iban, y Él hizo como que iba más lejos^a. 29 Y ellos le instaron, diciendo: Quédate con nosotros, porque está atardeciendo, y el día ya ha declinado. Y entró a quedarse con ellos. 30 Y sucedió que al sentarse¹ a la mesa con ellos, tomó pan, y lo bendijo; y partiéndolo, les dio^a. 31 Entonces les fueron abiertos los ojos y le reconocieron^a; pero Él desapareció de la presencia de ellos. 32 Y se dijeron el uno al otro: ¿No ardía nuestro corazón dentro de nosotros mientras nos hablaba en el camino, cuando nos abría¹ las Escrituras^a? 33 Y levantándose en esa misma hora, regresaron a Jerusalén, y hallaron reunidos a los once^a y a los que estaban con ellos^b, 34 que decían: Es verdad que el Señor ha resucitado^a y se ha aparecido a Simón^b. 35 Y ellos contaban sus experiencias¹ en el camino, y cómo le habían reconocido en el partir del pan^a.

36 Mientras ellos relataban estas cosas, Jesús¹ se puso en medio de ellos^a, y les dijo: Paz a vosotros. 37 Pero ellos, aterrorizados y asustados, pensaron que veían un espíritu^a. 38 Y Él les dijo: ¿Por qué estáis turbados, y por qué surgen dudas en vuestro corazón? 39 Mirad mis manos y mis pies^a, que soy yo mismo; palpadme y ved^b, porque un espíritu no tiene carne ni huesos como veis que yo tengo. 40 Y cuando dijo esto, les mostró las manos y los pies. 41 Como ellos todavía no lo creían a causa de la alegría^a y que estaban asombrados, les dijo: ¿Tenéis aquí algo de comer^b? 42 Entonces ellos le presentaron parte de un pescado asado¹. 43 Y Él lo tomó y comió delante de ellos^a.

44 Y les dijo: Esto es lo que yo os decía^1a cuando todavía estaba con vosotros: que era necesario que se cumpliera todo lo que sobre mí está escrito en la ley de Moisés^b, en los profetas^c y en los salmos^d. 45 Entonces les abrió la mente para que comprendieran las Escrituras^a, 46 y les dijo: Así está escrito, que el Cristo¹ padeciera^a y resucitara de entre los muertos al tercer día^b; 47 y que en su nombre se predicara el arrepentimiento para el perdón¹ de los pecados^a a todas las naciones^b, comenzando desde Jerusalén. 48 Vosotros sois testigos de estas cosas^a. 49 Y he aquí, yo enviaré sobre vosotros la promesa de mi Padre^a; pero vosotros, permaneced en la ciudad hasta que seáis investidos con poder de lo alto^b.

^aBut on the first day of the week, at early dawn, the women went to the tomb bringing the spices which they had prepared to finish anointing the body. Matt 28:1-8; Mark 16:1-8; John 20:1-8 2 And they found the large, circular stone rolled back from the tomb, 3 but when they went inside, they did not find the body of ^athe Lord Jesus. 4 While they were perplexed and wondering about this, suddenly, ^atwo men in dazzling clothing ^bstood near them; 5 and as the women were terrified and were bowing their faces to the ground, the men said to them, “Why are you looking for the living One among the dead? 6 He is not here, but ^ahas risen. Remember how He told you, ^bwhile He was still in Galilee, 7 saying that ^athe Son of Man must be handed over to sinful men, and be crucified, and on the third day rise from death to life.” Ps 16:10 8 And ^athey remembered His words, 9 and after returning from the tomb, they reported all these things to the eleven apostles and to all the rest. 10 Now they were ^aMary Magdalene and Joanna the wife of Chuza, Herod’s steward and Mary the mother of James; also the other women with them were telling these things to ^bthe apostles. 11 But their report seemed to them like idle talk and nonsense, and they ^awould not believe them. 12 But Peter got up and ^aran to the tomb. Stooping at the small entrance and looking in, he saw only the linen ¹wrappings; and he ^bwent away, wondering about what had happened. John 20:3-6

13 And then, that very day ^atwo of them were going to a village called Emmaus, which was about ¹seven miles from Jerusalem. Mark 16:12 14 And they were talking with each other about all these things which had taken place. 15 While they were talking and discussing it, Jesus Himself came up and began walking with them. 16 But ^atheir eyes were miraculously prevented from recognizing Him. 17 Then Jesus asked them, “What are you discussing with one another as you walk along?” And they stood still, looking brokenhearted. 18 One of them, named Cleopas, answered Him, “Are you the only stranger visiting Jerusalem who is unaware of the things which have happened here in these recent days?” 19 He asked, “What things?” And they replied, “The things about ^aJesus of Nazareth, who was a ^bprophet powerful in deed and word in the sight of God and all the people, 20 and how the chief priests and our ^arulers handed Him over to be sentenced to death, and crucified Him. 21 But we were hoping that it was He who was going to ^aredeem Israel and set our nation free. Indeed, besides all this, it is the third day since these things happened. 22 And also some of the women among us shocked us. ^aThey were at the tomb early in the morning, 23 and they did not find His body. Then they came back, saying that they had even seen a vision of angels who said that He was alive! 24 Some of those who were with us went to the tomb and found it just exactly as the women had said, but they did not see Him.” 25 Then Jesus said to them, “O foolish men, and slow of heart to trust and believe in everything that ^athe prophets have spoken! 26 ^aWas it not necessary for the Christ to suffer these things and only then to enter His glory?” 27 Then beginning with ^aMoses and throughout all the writings of the ^bprophets, He explained and interpreted for them the things referring to Himself found in all the Scriptures.

28 Then they approached the village where they were going, and ^aHe acted as if He were going farther. 29 But they urged Him not to go on, saying, “Stay with us, because it is almost evening, and the day has just about ended.” So He went inside to stay with them. 30 And it happened that as He reclined at the table with them, He took the bread and ^ablessed it, and breaking it, He began giving it to them. 31 Then their ^aeyes were suddenly opened by God and they clearly recognized Him; and He vanished from their sight. 32 They said to one another, “Were not our hearts burning within us while He was talking with us on the road and ^aopening the Scriptures to us?” 33 They got up that very hour and went back to Jerusalem, and ^afound the eleven apostles gathered together and ^bthose who were with them, 34 saying, “^aThe Lord has really risen and ^bhas appeared to Simon Peter!” 35 They began describing in detail what had happened on the road, and how ^aJesus was recognized by them when He broke the bread.

36 While they were talking about this, ^aJesus Himself suddenly stood among them and said to them, “Peace be to you.” 37 But they were startled and terrified and thought that they were seeing ^aa spirit. 38 And He said, “Why are you troubled, and why are doubts rising in your hearts? 39 ^aLook at the marks in My hands and My feet, and see that it is I Myself. ^bTouch Me and see; a spirit does not have flesh and bones, as you see that I have.” John 20:20-27 40 After saying this, He showed them His hands and His feet. 41 While they still ^adid not believe it because of their joy and amazement, He asked them, “^bDo you have anything here to eat?” 42 They gave Him a piece of broiled fish, 43 and He took it and ^aate it in front of them. Acts 10:40, 41

44 Then He said to them, “^aThis is what I told you while I was still with you, everything which has been written about Me in the ^1bLaw of Moses and the writings of the Prophets and ^cthe Psalms must be fulfilled.” 45 Then He ^aopened their minds to help them understand the Scriptures, 46 and said, “^aAnd so it is written, that the Christ (the Messiah, the Anointed) would suffer and ^brise from the dead on the third day, Hos 6:2 47 and that ^arepentance necessary for forgiveness of sins would be preached in His name to ^ball the nations, beginning from Jerusalem. 48 You are ^awitnesses of these things. 49 Listen carefully: ^aI am sending the Promise of My Father the Holy Spirit upon you; but ^byou are to remain in the city of Jerusalem until you are clothed (fully equipped) with power from on high.” John 14:26; Acts 1:4

50 Then He led them out as far as ^aBethany, and lifted up His hands and blessed them. Matt 21:17; Acts 1:9-12 51 While He was blessing them, He left them and was taken up into heaven. 52 And they worshiped Him and returned to Jerusalem with great joy fully understanding that He lives and that He is the Son of God; 53 and they were continually in the temple blessing and praising God.

36 While they were telling these things, ^aHe Himself stood in their midst and *said to them, “Peace be to you.” 37 But they were startled and frightened and thought that they were seeing ^aa spirit. 38 And He said to them, “Why are you troubled, and why do doubts arise in your ¹hearts? 39 ^aSee My hands and My feet, that it is I Myself; ^btouch Me and see, for a spirit does not have flesh and bones as you see that I have.” 40 And when He had said this, He showed them His hands and His feet. 41 While they still ^1acould not believe it because of their joy and amazement, He said to them, “^bHave you anything here to eat?” 42 They gave Him a piece of a broiled fish; 43 and He took it and ^aate it before them.
