aPalabra que el SEÑOR habló acerca de Babilonia, la tierra de los caldeosb, por medio1 del profeta Jeremías:

2 Anunciadlo entre las naciones y hacedlo oíra;levantad estandarteb, hacedlo oír.No lo ocultéis, sino decid:«Ha sido tomada Babiloniac,está avergonzado Beld, destrozado1 Merodac2;han sido avergonzadas sus imágenes, destrozados3 sus ídolose».3 Porque ha subido contra ella una nación del norteaque hará de su tierra objeto de horror,y no habrá habitante en ellab.Tanto hombres como animales habrán huido, se habrán idoc.4 En aquellos días y en aquel tiempo—declara el SEÑOR—vendrán los hijos de Israel, ellos junto con los hijos de Judáa;vendrán andando y llorandob,y al SEÑOR su Dios buscaránc.5 Preguntarán por el caminoa de Sión,hacia donde1 volverán sus rostros;vendrán2 para unirse al SEÑORen un pacto eterno que no será olvidadob.6 Ovejas perdidas ha venido a ser mi pueblo;sus pastores las han descarriadoa,haciéndolas vagarb por los montes;han andado de monte en colladocy han olvidado su lugar de descansod.7 Todos los que los hallaban, los devoraban;y sus enemigos han dicho: «No somos culpablesa,porque ellos han pecado contra el SEÑOR, morada de justiciab,el SEÑOR, esperanza de sus padresc».8 Huid de en medio de Babilonia,y salid1 de la tierra de los caldeosa;sed como machos cabríos al frente2 del rebaño.9 Porque he aquí, yo hago despertar y subir contra Babiloniaauna horda de grandes naciones de la tierra del norte,que se alinearán para la batalla contra ella;desde allí será llevada cautiva.Sus flechas serán como de diestro guerrero1que no vuelve con las manos vacías.10 Y Caldea1 se convertirá en botín;todos los que la saqueen se saciarán—declara el SEÑORa.
11 Porque os alegráis, porque os regocijáis,saqueadores de mi heredada,porque saltáis como novilla trilladora1by relincháis como caballos sementales2,12 vuestra madre se avergonzará1 en gran manera,será humillada la que os dio a luza.He aquí, será la última de las naciones:desierto, sequedal y yermob.13 A causa del enojo del SEÑOR, no será habitadaa,sino que estará desolada toda ellab;todo el que pase por Babilonia se quedará atónitoy silbará a causa de todas sus heridasc.14 Poneos en orden contra Babilonia en derredora,todos los que entesáis1 el arco;tirad contra ella, no escatiméis las flechas,porque ha pecado contra el SEÑOR.15 Alzad grito de guerra contra ella en derredor.Se ha rendido1a, caen sus columnas,son derribadas sus murallasb.Porque esta es la venganza del SEÑORc:tomad venganza de ella;como ella ha hecho, así haced con ellad.16 Exterminad de Babilonia al sembradory al que maneja la hoz en tiempo de la siegaa;ante la espada opresora1,cada uno volverá a su pueblob,cada uno huirá a su tierrac.

17 Rebaño1 descarriadoa es Israel; los leones lo han ahuyentadob. Primero lo devoró el rey de Asiriac, y después2 Nabucodonosor, rey de Babiloniad, quebró sus huesos. 18 Por tanto, así dice el SEÑOR de los ejércitos, el Dios de Israel: «He aquí, castigaré al rey de Babilonia y a su tierra, como castigué al rey de Asiriaa. 19 Y volveré a traer a Israel a su pastizala, y pacerá en el Carmelo y en Basán, y se saciarán sus deseos1 en la región montañosa de Efraínb y en Galaad. 20 En aquellos días y en aquel tiempo»—declara el SEÑOR— «se buscará la iniquidad de Israel, pero no habrá ninguna, y los pecados de Judá, pero no se hallarán; porque perdonaréa a los que yo haya dejado como remanenteb».

21 Sube contra la tierra de Merataim1, contra ellay contra los habitantes de Pecod2a.Mátalos y destrúyelos3—declara el SEÑOR—y haz conforme a todo lo que te he ordenado.22 ¡Estruendo de guerra en el país,y gran destruccióna!23 ¡Cómo ha sido cortado y quebradoel martillo de toda la tierra!¡Cómo se ha convertido Babiloniaen objeto de horror entre las nacionesa!24 Babilonia, te puse lazo, y1 fuiste atrapadaa,y tú no te diste cuentab;has sido sorprendida y2 apresadaporque te pusiste a provocar al SEÑORc.25 El SEÑOR ha abierto su arsenaly ha sacado las armas de su indignacióna,porque esta es obra del Señor, DIOS1b de los ejércitos,en la tierra de los caldeos.26 Venid contra ella desde los últimos confines1a;abrid sus graneros,convertidla en montonesy destruidla por completo2b;que no le quede nada.27 Pasad a espada todos sus novillos;que desciendan al mataderoa.¡Ay de ellosb, porque ha llegado su día,la hora de su castigoc!28 Se oye la voz de los fugitivos y evadidos de la tierra de Babiloniaaanunciando en Sión la venganza del SEÑOR nuestro Diosb,la venganza de su temploc.
29 Reclutad arqueros1 contra Babilonia,a todos los que entesan2 el arco;acampad contra ella por todos lados,que no haya escape3.Dadle el pago conforme a su obra;conforme a todo lo que ha hecho, así haced con ellaa;porque se ha vuelto insolente contra el SEÑORb,contra el Santo de Israel.30 Por tanto sus jóvenes caerán en sus calles,y todos sus hombres de guerra serán silenciados1a en aquel día—declara el SEÑORb.31 He aquí, estoy contra ti, arrogante1,—declara el Señor, DIOS2 de los ejércitosa—porque ha llegado tu día,la hora en que te castigaré3.32 Y la arrogante1 tropezará y caeráasin que nadie la levante;y prenderé fuego a sus ciudades,el cual devorará todos sus alrededoresb.

33 Así dice el SEÑOR de los ejércitos:Oprimidos están los hijos de Israely los hijos de Judá a una;todos los que los tomaron cautivos los han retenido,se han negado a soltarlosa.

34 Pero su Redentor es fuertea, el SEÑOR de los ejércitos es su nombreb;defenderá su causa con energíapara traer reposo a la1 tierracy turbación a los habitantes de Babiloniad.35 Espadaa contra los caldeos—declara el SEÑOR—y contra los habitantes de Babiloniab,contra sus oficiales y sus sabiosc.36 Espada contra los impostores1, y se volverán neciosa.Espada contra sus valientesb, y serán destrozados2c.37 Espada contra sus caballos y contra sus carrosa,y contra todos los extranjerosb que están1 en medio de ella,y serán como mujeresc.Espada contra sus tesoros, y serán saqueados.38 Sequía1 sobre sus aguas, y se secarána;porque es una tierra de ídolos,y se vuelven locos por sus horribles ídolosb.39 Por tanto, allí vivirán las fieras del desierto junto con las hienas1,también vivirán avestruces en ellaa;nunca más será habitadani poblada por generación y generaciónb.40 Como cuando Dios destruyó a Sodoma,a Gomorra y a sus ciudades vecinas—declara el SEÑOR—ningún hombre habitará allí,ni residirá en ella hijo de hombrea.
41 He aquí, un pueblo viene del norte,una gran nación,y muchos reyes se levantaránde los confines de la tierraa.42 Empuñan arco y jabalina;son crueles y no tienen misericordiaa.Su voz ruge como el marb,y a caballo van montados,alineados como un solo hombre para la batallaccontra ti, hijad de Babiloniae.43 Ha oído el rey de Babilonia noticiasa de ellos,y flaquean sus manos;la angustia se ha apoderado de él,agonía como de mujer de partob.44 He aquí que uno subirá como leónde la espesura1 del Jordán a un pastizal de perenne verdor2,y3 en un instante le haré huir de él,y al que sea escogido nombraré sobre éla.Porque ¿quién es como yob y quién me citará a juicio?¿Quién es el pastor que me podrá resistirc?

45 Por tanto, oíd el plan que el SEÑOR ha trazado contra Babiloniaa, y los designios que ha decretado contra la tierra de los caldeos; ciertamente los arrastrarán, aun a los más pequeños del rebañob; ciertamente a causa de ellos hará una desolación de su pastizal1. 46 Al grito1 de ¡Babilonia ha sido tomada!, la tierra tiemblaa y el clamor se oye entre las nacionesb.

The word that the LORD spoke concerning 1aBabylon and concerning the land of the 2Chaldeans through Jeremiah the prophet: Is 13:1-14:23; 47; Hab 1:1, 2

2 “aDeclare among the nations.bLift up a signal to spread the news—publish and proclaim it,Do not conceal it; say,‘cBabylon has been taken,dBel the patron god has been shamed, 1Marduk (Bel) has been shattered.Babylon’s eimages have been shamed, her worthless idols have been thrown down.’

3 For out of the anorth a nation (Media) has come against her which will make her land bdesolate, and cno one will live there. They have fled, they have gone away—both man and animal.

4 “In those days and at that time,” says the LORD, “the children of Israel will come, they and the children of Judah atogether; they will come up bweeping in repentance as they come and seek cthe LORD their God inquiring for and of Him. 5 They will aask the way to Zion, with their faces in that direction, saying, ‘Come, let us join ourselves to the LORD in an beverlasting covenant that will not be forgotten.’

6 “My people have become alost sheep;bTheir shepherds have led them astray.They have made them turn aside to the seductive places of idolatry on the cmountains.They have gone along from one sin to another from mountain to hill;They have forgotten their own dresting place. Is 53:6; 1+@Pet 2:257 “All who found them have devoured them;And their adversaries have said, ‘aWe are not guilty,Because they have sinned against the LORD and are no longer holy to Him, their true bhabitation of righteousness and justice,Even the LORD, the confident chope of their fathers.’
8 “Wander away from the amidst of BabylonAnd go out of the land of the Chaldeans;Be like the male goats who serve as leaders at the head of the flocks. Jer 51:6, 9, 45; 2+@Cor 6:17; Rev 18:49 “For behold, I will astir up and bring up against BabylonAn assembly of great nations from the north country.They will equip themselves and set up the battle lines against her;From there she will be taken captive.Their arrows will be like an expert warriorWho will not return empty-handed.10 “aChaldea will become plunder;All who plunder her will be satisfied,” says the LORD.
11 “Though you are glad, though you rejoice,O you who aplunder My heritage,Though you are wanton and skip about like a bheifer in the grassAnd neigh like stallions,12 Your amother Babylon shall be greatly shamed;She who gave you birth will be ashamed.Behold, she will be the least of the nations,A bwilderness, a parched land and a desert.13 “Because of the wrath of the LORD she will anot be inhabitedBut she will be bcompletely desolate;Everyone who goes by Babylon cwill be appalledAnd will hiss (mock) at all her wounds and plagues.14 “Set yourselves in battle formation against Babylon on every side,All you archers.Shoot at her! Do not spare the arrows,For she has asinned against the LORD.15 “Raise the battle cry against her on every side!She ahas given her hand in agreement and has surrendered; her pillars have fallen,Her bwalls have been torn down.For this is the cvengeance of the LORD:Take vengeance on her;dAs she has done to others, do to her.16 “Cut off the asower from BabylonAnd the one who handles the sickle at the time of harvest.For fear of the bsword of the oppressorcEveryone will return to his own peopleAnd everyone will flee to his own land.

17 “Israel is a hunted and ascattered flock driven here and there as prey; the blions have chased them away. First the cking of Assyria devoured him, and now at last dNebuchadnezzar king of Babylon has broken (gnawed) his bones. 18 Therefore thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, ‘Behold, I will visit (inspect, examine) and punish the king of Babylon and his land, just as I visited and apunished the king of Assyria. 19 And I will abring Israel home again to his pasture and he will graze on the most fertile lands of Carmel in the west and Bashan in the east, and his soul will be satisfied on the bhills of Ephraim and Gilead. 20 In those days and at that time,’ says the LORD, ‘a search will be made for the wickedness of Israel, but athere will be none and for the sins of Judah, but none will be found, for I will pardon those bwhom I leave as a remnant.’ Is 1:9; 43:25; Jer 31:34; 33:8; Rom 9:27

21 “Go against Babylon the land of Merathaim (Double Rebellion) ,Go up against it and against the people of aPekod (Punishment) .Kill and utterly destroy them,” says the LORD,“And do everything that I have commanded you.”22 “The anoise of battle is in the land,And the noise of great destruction.23 “How the ahammer of the whole earthIs crushed and broken!How Babylon has becomeA horror of desolation among the nations!24 “I aset a trap for you and you also were bcaught, O Babylon,And you did not know it;You have been found and also seizedBecause you have cstruggled against the LORD.”25 The LORD has opened His armoryAnd has brought out the nations who unknowingly are the aweapons of His indignation (wrath) ,For it is a bwork of the Lord GOD of hostsIn the land of the Chaldeans.26 Come against her from the farthest border.aOpen her storehouses;Pile it up like heaps of rubbish.bBurn and destroy her completely;Let nothing be left of her.27 aKill all her young bulls her strength—her young men;Let them bgo down to the slaughter!Woe (judgment is coming) to the Chaldeans, for their cday has come,The time of their punishment.
28 Listen to the avoice of the refugees who flee and escape from the land of Babylon,Proclaiming in Zion the bvengeance of the LORD our God,The vengeance of the LORD against the Chaldeans for plundering and destroying His ctemple.
29 “Call together many archers against Babylon,All those who bend the bow.Encamp against her on every side;Let no one from there escape.Repay her according to her actions;aJust as she has done, do to her.For she has been bproudly defiant and presumptuous against the LORD,Against the Holy One of Israel.30 “Therefore her ayoung men will fall in her streets,And all her soldiers will be bdestroyed on that day,” says the LORD.31 “Behold, aI am against you, O Babylon, you arrogant one, you who are pride and presumption personified,”Says the Lord GOD of hosts,“For your day has come,The time when I will punish you.32 “The aarrogant (proud) one will stumble and fallWith no one to raise him up;And I will bset fire to his citiesAnd it will devour all who are around him.”
33 Thus says the LORD of hosts,“The children of Israel are oppressed,And the children of Judah as well;aAnd all who took them captive have held them tightly,They have refused to let them go.34 “Their aRedeemer is strong; bthe LORD of hosts is His name.He will most certainly cplead their case and defend their causeSo that He may dbring rest to their land,But turmoil to the inhabitants of Babylon.35 “A asword against the Chaldeans,” says the LORD,“And against the inhabitants of BabylonAnd against her bprinces (officials, civic rulers) and against her cwise men (astrologers, religious rulers) !36 “A sword against the aoracle priests (the babbling liars) , and they will become fools!A sword against her bmighty warriors, and they will be shattered and cdestroyed!37 “A sword against their ahorses and against their chariotsAnd against all the bforeign troops that are in her midst,And they will become as weak and defenseless as cwomen!A sword against her treasures, and they will be plundered!38 “A adrought on her waters, and they will dry up!For it is a land of worthless bidols,And they are mad over fearsome idols those objects of terror in which they foolishly trust.
39 “Therefore 1wild beasts of the adesert will live there in Babylon with the jackals;The ostriches also will live there,And it will bnever again be inhabited with peopleOr lived in from generation to generation. Is 13:20-2240 “As when God overthrew aSodomAnd Gomorrah and their neighboring cities,” says the LORD,“So no man will live there;Nor shall any son of man live there.” Jer 49:18
41 “Behold, a people is coming afrom the north,And a great nation and many kingsWill be stirring from the remote parts of the earth.42 “They aseize their bow and spear;They are bcruel and have no compassion.They csound like the roaring of the sea;They ride on dhorses,Every man eequipped like a man ready for the battleAgainst you, O Daughter of Babylon.43 “The aking of Babylon has heard the report about them,And his hands fall limp and helpless;bAnguish has seized him,And agony like that of a woman in childbirth.

44 “aSee, one will come up like a lion from the thicket of the Jordan against the enduring habitation of Babylon and its watered pastures; for in an instant I will make Babylon run from his land. I will appoint over Babylon the one whom I bchoose. For who is clike Me, and who will summon Me into court and prosecute Me for this? Who is the earthly shepherd who can dstand defiantly before Me?” Jer 49:19 45 Therefore hear the aplan of the LORD which He has devised against Babylon, and hear what He has purposed against the inhabitants of the land of the Chaldeans: bsurely they will be dragged away, even the little ones of the flock; surely He will make their habitation desolate because of them. 46 At the shout, “Babylon has been seized!” the aearth quakes, and an boutcry is heard among the nations.

28 There is a asound of fugitives and refugees from the land of Babylon,To declare in Zion the bvengeance of the LORD our God,Vengeance for His ctemple.
29 “Summon 1many against Babylon,All those who 2bend the bow:Encamp against her on every side,Let there be no escape3.Repay her according to her work;aAccording to all that she has done, so do to her;For she has become barrogant against the LORD,Against the Holy One of Israel.30 “Therefore her ayoung men will fall in her streets,And all her men of war will be 1bsilenced in that day,” declares the LORD.31 “Behold, aI am against you, O 1arrogant one,”Declares the Lord 2GOD of hosts,“For your day has come,The time 3when I will punish you.32 “The 1aarrogant one will stumble and fallWith no one to raise him up;And I will bset fire to his citiesAnd it will devour all his environs.”

6 “My people have become alost sheep;bTheir shepherds have led them astray.They have made them turn aside on the cmountains.They have gone from mountain to hill,They have forgotten their dresting place.7 “All who found them have devoured them;And their adversaries have said, ‘aWe are not guilty,Since they have sinned against the LORD who is the bhabitation of righteousness,The LORD, the chope of their fathers.’
8 “Wander away from the amidst of BabylonAnd 1go out from the land of the Chaldeans;Be like male goats 2at the head of the flock.9 “For behold, I am going to arouse and bring up against BabylonA contingent of great nations from the land of the north,And they will draw up their battle lines against her;From there she will be taken captive.Their arrows will be like 1an expert warriorWho does not return empty-handed.10 “1aChaldea will become plunder;All who plunder her will have enough,” declares the LORD.
11 “Because you are glad, because you are jubilant,You who apillage My heritage,Because you skip about 1like a threshing bheiferAnd neigh like 2stallions,12 Your amother 1will be greatly ashamed,She who gave you birth 2will be humiliated.Behold, she will be the least of the nations,A bwilderness, a dry land and a desert.13 “Because of the wrath of the LORD she will anot be inhabited,But she will be bcompletely desolate;Everyone who passes by Babylon cwill be horrifiedAnd will hiss because of all her wounds.14 “Draw up your battle lines against Babylon on every side,All of you who 1bend the bow;Shoot at her, do not spare your arrows,For she has asinned against the LORD.15 “Raise your battle cry against her on every side!She has agiven 1herself up, her towers have fallen,Her bwalls have been torn down.For this is the cvengeance of the LORD:Take vengeance on her;dAs she has done to others, so do to her.16 “Eliminate the asower from BabylonAnd the one who wields the sickle at the time of harvest;From 1the bsword of the oppressorcEach of them will turn back to his own peopleAnd each of them will flee to his own land.

17 “Israel is a ascattered 1flock, the blions have driven them away. The first one who devoured him was the cking of Assyria, and this last one who has gnawed his bones is dNebuchadnezzar king of Babylon. 18 Therefore this is what the LORD of armies, the God of Israel says: ‘Behold, I am going to punish the king of Babylon and his land, just as I apunished the king of Assyria. 19 And I will abring Israel back to his pasture and he will graze on Carmel and Bashan, and his 1desire will be satisfied in the bhill country of Ephraim and Gilead. 20 In those days and at that time,’ declares the LORD, ‘search will be made for the wrongdoing of Israel, but athere will be none; and for the sins of Judah, but they will not be found; for I will forgive those bwhom I leave as a remnant.’

21 “Against the land of 1Merathaim, go up against it,And against the inhabitants of 2aPekod.Kill and 3completely destroy them,” declares the LORD,“And do according to everything that I have commanded you.22 “The anoise of battle is in the land,And great destruction.23 “How the ahammer of the whole earthHas been cut off and broken!How Babylon has becomeAn object of horror among the nations!24 “I aset a trap for you and you were also bcaught, Babylon,While you yourself were not aware;You have been found and also seizedBecause you have engaged in cconflict with the LORD.”25 The LORD has opened His armoryAnd has brought out the aweapons of His indignation,For it is a bwork of the Lord 1GOD of armiesIn the land of the Chaldeans.26 Come to her from the 1farthest border;aOpen up her barns,Pile her up like heaps of grainAnd 2bcompletely destroy her,Let nothing be left to her.27 aPut all her bulls to the sword;Let them bgo down to the slaughter!Woe be upon them, for their cday has come,The time of their punishment.
28 There is a asound of fugitives and refugees from the land of Babylon,To declare in Zion the bvengeance of the LORD our God,Vengeance for His ctemple.
29 “Summon 1many against Babylon,All those who 2bend the bow:Encamp against her on every side,Let there be no escape3.Repay her according to her work;aAccording to all that she has done, so do to her;For she has become barrogant against the LORD,Against the Holy One of Israel.30 “Therefore her ayoung men will fall in her streets,And all her men of war will bperish on that day,” declares the LORD.31 “Behold, aI am against you, 1arrogant one,”Declares the Lord 2GOD of armies,“For your day has come,The time 3when I will punish you.32 “The 1aarrogant one will stumble and fallWith no one to raise him up;And I will bset fire to his cities,And it will devour all his surroundings.”
33 This is what the LORD of armies says:“The sons of Israel are oppressed,And the sons of Judah as well;And aall who took them captive have held them firmly,They have refused to let them go.34 “Their aRedeemer is strong, bthe LORD of armies is His name;He will vigorously cplead their caseSo that He may dbring rest to their land,But turmoil to the inhabitants of Babylon.35 “A asword against the Chaldeans,” declares the LORD,“And against the inhabitants of BabylonAnd against her bleaders and her cwise men!36 “A sword against the aoracle priests, and they will become fools!A sword against her bwarriors, and they will be 1cshattered!37 “A sword against 1their ahorses, against 2their chariots,And against all the 3bforeigners who are in the midst of her,And they will become cwomen!A sword against her treasures, and they will be plundered!38 “A 1adrought on her waters, and they will be dried up!For it is a land of bidols,And they go insane at frightful images.
39 “Therefore the adesert creatures will live there with the jackals;The ostriches also will live in it.It will bnever again be inhabitedNor lived in from generation to generation.40 “As when God overthrew aSodomAnd Gomorrah with its neighbors,” declares the LORD,“No one will live there,Nor will 1anyone of mankind reside in it.
41 “Behold, a people is coming afrom the north,And a great nation and many kingsWill be roused from the remote parts of the earth.42 “They aseize their bow and javelin;They are bcruel and have no mercy.Their cvoice roars like the sea;And they ride on dhorses,eDrawn up like a man for the battleAgainst you, daughter of Babylon.43 “The aking of Babylon has heard the report about them,And his hands hang limp;bDistress has gripped him,Agony like a woman in childbirth.

44 “aBehold, one will come up like a lion from the thicket of the Jordan to a perennially watered pasture; for in an instant I will chase them away from it, and I will appoint over it whoever is bchosen. For who is clike Me, and who will summon Me into court? And who then is the shepherd who can dstand against Me?” 45 Therefore hear the aplan of the LORD which He has planned against Babylon, and His purposes which He has in mind against the land of the Chaldeans: bthey will certainly drag them off, even the little ones of the flock; He will certainly make their pasture desolate because of them. 46 At the 1shout, “Babylon has been conquered!” the aearth quakes, and an boutcry is heard among the nations.
