En el año tercero del reinado del rey Belsasar, se me apareció a mí, Daniel¹, una visión, después de aquella que se me había aparecido anteriormente². 2 Cuando miré en la visión, sucedió que al mirar, yo me encontraba en la ciudadela de Susa^a, que está en la provincia de Elam^b, y vi en la visión que yo estaba junto al río^1c Ulai. 3 Alcé, pues, mis ojos y miré, y he aquí que un carnero estaba delante del río¹. Tenía dos cuernos^a, y los dos cuernos eran altos, pero uno era más alto que el otro, y el más alto creció² el último. 4 Vi al carnero dando cornadas al oeste, al norte y al sur, y ninguna bestia podía mantenerse en pie delante de él, y nadie podía librarse de su poder^1a. Hacía lo que quería, y se engrandeció^b.

5 Estando yo observando, he aquí, un macho cabrío venía del occidente sobre la superficie de toda la tierra sin tocar el suelo; el macho cabrío tenía un cuerno prominente entre los ojos^a. 6 Se dirigió al carnero que tenía los dos cuernos, que yo había visto parado delante del río¹, y lo acometió con la furia de su poder. 7 Lo vi venir junto al carnero, y enfurecido contra él, hirió al carnero y le rompió los dos cuernos, y el carnero no tenía fuerza para mantenerse en pie delante de él; lo arrojó en tierra y lo pisoteó, y no hubo nadie que librara al carnero de su poder¹. 8 El macho cabrío se engrandeció sobremanera, pero en cuanto llegó a ser poderoso, el gran cuerno^a se le rompió, y en su lugar le salieron cuatro cuernos^b prominentes hacia los cuatro vientos del cielo^c.

9 Y de uno de ellos salió un cuerno pequeño, que creció mucho^a hacia el sur, hacia el oriente y hacia la Tierra Hermosa^1b. 10 Creció hasta el ejército del cielo, e hizo caer a la tierra parte del ejército y de las estrellas^a, y las pisoteó^b. 11 Se engrandeció hasta igualarse con el Jefe^1a del ejército, le quitó su sacrificio continuo^b y fue derribado el lugar de su santuario. 12 Y el ejército será entregado al cuerno junto con el sacrificio continuo a causa de la transgresión; arrojará por tierra la verdad^a y hará su voluntad y prosperará. 13 Oí entonces hablar a un santo^a, y otro santo dijo al que hablaba: ¿Hasta cuándo durará la visión^b del sacrificio continuo, de la transgresión que espanta, y de que el lugar santo y el ejército sean pisoteados^c? 14 Y le¹ respondió: Por dos mil trescientas tardes y mañanas; entonces el lugar santo será restaurado^2a.

15 Y sucedió que después que yo, Daniel, había visto la visión^a, y trataba de comprenderla¹, he aquí, vi de pie, ante mí, uno con apariencia de hombre^b. 16 Y oí una voz de hombre entre las márgenes del Ulai, que gritaba y decía: Gabriel, explícale aeste la visión^a. 17 Él se acercó adonde yo estaba, y cuando llegó, me aterroricé y caí sobre mi rostro^a, pero él me dijo: Entiende, hijo de hombre, que la visión se refiere al tiempo del fin^b. 18 Mientras él hablaba conmigo, caí en un sueño profundo con mi rostro en tierra^a; él me tocó y me hizo incorporar^b donde yo estaba. 19 Y dijo: He aquí, te voy a dar a conocer lo que sucederá al final de la ira, porque se refiere al tiempo señalado del fin^a. 20 El carnero que viste, con los dos cuernos^a, representa a los reyes de Media y de Persia. 21 Y el macho cabrío peludo representa al reino¹ de Grecia, y el cuerno grande que está entre sus ojos es el primer rey. 22 Y el cuerno roto y los cuatro cuernos^a que salieron en su lugar representan cuatro reinos que se levantarán de su nación, pero no con su poder.

27 Yo, Daniel, me sentí agotado y enfermo algunos días. Después me levanté y atendí los asuntos del rey^a; pero yo estaba espantado a causa de la visión^b, y no había nadie que la interpretara¹.

In the ¹third year of the reign of King Belshazzar a second vision appeared to me, Daniel, this was two years after the one that first appeared to me. 2 I ^alooked in the vision and it seemed that I was at the citadel of ^1bSusa, the capital of Persia, which is in the province of ^cElam; and I looked in the vision and I saw myself by the Ulai Canal. 3 Then I raised my eyes and looked, and behold, there in front of the canal stood a lone ^aram (the Medo-Persian Empire) which had two horns. The two horns were high, but one (Persia) was higher than the other (Media) , and the higher one came up last. 4 I saw the ram (Medo-Persia) ^acharging westward and northward and southward; no beast could stand before him, nor was there anyone who could rescue anything from his power, but ^bhe did as he pleased and magnified himself. Dan 8:20

5 As I was observing this, behold, a male goat (Greece) was coming from the west rushing across the face of the whole earth without touching the ground; and the goat had a ^aconspicuous and remarkable horn (Alexander the Great) between his eyes. Dan 8:21 6 He came up to the ram that had the two horns, which I had seen standing in front of the canal, and charged at him in the fury of his power and wrath. 7 In my vision I saw him come close to the ram (Medo-Persia) , and he was filled with rage toward him; and the goat (Greece) struck the ram and shattered his two horns, and the ram had no strength to stand before him. So the goat threw him to the ground and trampled on him, and there was no one who could rescue the ram from his power. 8 Then the male goat magnified himself exceedingly, and when ^ahe was young and strong, the ^bgreat horn (Alexander) was suddenly ¹broken; and in its place there came up four prominent horns among whom the kingdom was divided, one toward each of the ^cfour winds of heaven.

9 Out of one of them (Antiochus IV Epiphanes) came forth a rather ^asmall horn but one of irreverent presumption and profane pride which grew exceedingly powerful toward the south, toward the east, and toward the ^bBeautiful Land (Israel) . Dan 8:23 10 And in my vision this ¹horn grew up to the host of heaven, and caused some of the host and some of the ^astars to fall to the earth, and it ^btrampled on them. 11 Indeed, it ^amagnified itself to be equal with the ¹Commander of the host of heaven; and it took away from Him the ^bdaily sacrifice (burnt offering) , and the place of His sanctuary was thrown down (profaned) . 12 Because of the transgression of God’s people—their irreverence and ungodliness the host will be given over to the wicked horn, along with the regular sacrifice; and righteousness and truth will be ^aflung to the ground, and the horn will do as it pleases by divine permission and prosper. 13 Then I heard a ^aholy one (angel) speaking, and another holy one said to the one who was speaking, “^bHow much time will be required to complete the vision regarding the regular sacrifice, the transgression that brings horror, and the ^ctrampling underfoot of both the sanctuary and the host of the people?” Luke 21:24 14 He said to me, “For ^a2,300 evenings and mornings; ¹then the sanctuary will be cleansed and properly restored.”

15 When ^aI, Daniel, had seen the vision, I sought to understand it; then behold, standing before me was one who looked like a ^bman. 16 And I heard the voice of a man between the banks of the Ulai, which called out and said, “^aGabriel, give this man (Daniel) an understanding of the vision.” Dan 9:21; Luke 1:19, 26 17 So he came near where I was standing, and when he came I was frightened and ^afell face downward; but he said to me, “Understand, son of man, that the fulfillment of the vision pertains to events that will occur in the ^btime of the end.”

18 Now as he (Gabriel) was speaking with me, I ^adrifted into a deep sleep (unconsciousness) with my face to the ground; but he ^btouched me and made me stand where I had stood before. 19 He said, “Behold, I am going to ^alet you know what will happen during the final time of the indignation and wrath of God upon the ungodly, for it concerns the appointed time of the end.

20 The ^aram which you saw with the two horns represents the kings of Media and Persia.

21 The shaggy (rough-coated) male goat represents the kingdom of Greece, and the great horn between his eyes is the ¹first king. 22 Regarding the ^ashattered horn and the ¹four others that arose in its place, four kingdoms will rise from his (Alexander’s) nation, although not with his power and heritage.

27 And I, Daniel, was ^aexhausted and was sick for several days. Afterward I got up and ^bcontinued with the king’s business; but I was astounded at the vision, and there was no one who could explain it.

So he hurled him to the ground and trampled on him, and there was none to rescue the ram from his ¹power. 8 Then the male goat magnified himself exceedingly. But as soon as ^ahe was mighty, the ^blarge horn was broken; and in its place there came up four conspicuous horns toward the ^cfour winds of heaven.

9 Out of one of them came forth a rather ^asmall horn which grew exceedingly great toward the south, toward the east, and toward the ^1bBeautiful Land. 10 It grew up to the host of heaven and caused some of the host and some of the ^astars to fall to the earth, and it ^btrampled them down. 11 It even ^amagnified itself ¹to be equal with the ²Commander of the host; and it removed the ^bregular sacrifice from Him, and the place of His sanctuary was thrown down. 12 And on account of transgression the host will be given over to the horn along with the regular sacrifice; and it will ^afling truth to the ground and perform its will and prosper. 13 Then I heard a ^aholy one speaking, and another holy one said to that particular one who was speaking, “^bHow long will the vision about the regular sacrifice apply, ¹while the transgression causes horror, so as to allow both the holy place and the host ²to be ^ctrampled?” 14 He said to me, “For ^a2,300 evenings and mornings; then the holy place will be ¹properly restored.”

15 When ^aI, Daniel, had seen the vision, I sought ¹to understand it; and behold, standing before me was one ²who looked like a ^bman. 16 And I heard the voice of a man between the banks of Ulai, and he called out and said, “^aGabriel, give this man an understanding of the vision.” 17 So he came near to where I was standing, and when he came I was frightened and ^afell on my face; but he said to me, “Son of man, understand that the vision pertains to the ^btime of the end.”
