Elihu Sharply Reproves Job
Elihu continued speaking to Job and said,
2 “Do you think this is according to your ajustice?Do you say, ‘My righteousness is more than God’s’?Job 27:23 “For you say, ‘aWhat advantage have you by living a righteous life?bWhat profit will I have, more by being righteous than if I had sinned?’Job 34:9Job 9:30, 314 “I will answer you,And your companions with you.5 “aLook to the heavens and see;And behold bthe skies which are much higher than you.Gen 15:5; Ps 8:3Job 22:126 “If you have sinned, awhat do you accomplish against Him?And if your transgressions are multiplied, what have you done to Him?Job 7:20; Prov 8:36; Jer 7:197 “If you are righteous, awhat do you give God,Or what does He receive from your hand?Job 22:2, 3; Prov 9:12; Luke 17:10; Rom 11:358 “Your wickedness affects only a man such as you,And your righteousness affects only 1a son of man but it cannot affect God, who is sovereign.I.e. a human being.
9 “Because of the amultitudes of oppressions the people cry out;They cry for help because of the violent arm bof the mighty.Ex 2:23Job 12:1910 “But ano one says, ‘Where is God my Maker,Who bgives songs of rejoicing in the night, Acts 16:25Job 21:14; 27:10; 36:13; Is 51:13Job 8:21; Ps 42:8; 77:6; 149:5; Acts 16:2511 Who ateaches us more than the beasts of the earthAnd makes us wiser than the birds of the heavens?’Job 36:22; Ps 94:12; Jer 32:3312 “The people acry out, but He does not answerBecause of the pride of evil men.Prov 1:2813 “Surely aGod will not listen to an empty cry which lacks trust,Nor will the Almighty regard it.Job 27:9; Prov 15:29; Is 1:15; Jer 11:11; Mic 3:414 “Even though ayou say that you do not see Him when missing His righteous judgment on earth,Yet your bcase is before Him, and you must wait for Him!Job 9:11; 23:8, 9Job 31:3515 “And now, because He has not quickly punished in His anger,Nor has He acknowledged transgression and arrogance well and seems unaware of the wrong of which a person is guilty,16 Job uselessly opens his mouthAnd multiplies words awithout knowledge drawing the worthless conclusion that the righteous have no more advantage than the wicked.”Job 34:35; 38:2
