Judgment on Neighboring Nations

The words of Amos, who was among the ^asheepherders of ¹^bTekoa, which he saw in a divine revelation concerning ²Israel in the days of ^cUzziah king of Judah, and in the days of ^dJeroboam the son of Joash, king of Israel, two years before the ^eearthquake. Zech 14:5

2 And he said,“The ^aLORD thunders and roars from Zion in judgmentAnd utters His voice from Jerusalem;Then the ^bpastures of the shepherds mourn,And the ^csummit of Mount Carmel dries up because of God’s judgment.” Is 42:13; Jer 25:30; Joel 3:16

3 Thus says the LORD,“For ^athree transgressions of ^bDamascus and for four (multiplied delinquencies)I shall not reverse its punishment or revoke My word concerning it,Because they have threshed Gilead east of the Jordan River with sharp iron sledges having spikes that crushed and shredded. 2+@Kin 10:32, 334 “So I will send a fire of war, conquest, and destruction upon the house of ¹Hazael,And it shall devour the palaces and strongholds of ²^aBen-hadad (Hazael’s son) .5 “I also will ^abreak the bar of the gate of Damascus,And cut off and destroy the inhabitant from the Valley of Aven (Wickedness) ,And the ruler who holds the scepter, from Beth-eden (Damascus) ;And the people of Aram conquered by the Assyrians will go into exile to ¹^bKir,”Says the LORD. 6 Thus says the LORD,“For three transgressions of ^aGaza in Philistia and for four (multiplied delinquencies)I will not reverse its punishment or revoke My word concerning it,Because as slave traders they took captive the entire Jewish population of defenseless Judean border villages, of which none was sparedAnd ^bdeported them to Edom for the slave trade. Joel 3:67 “So I will send a fire of war, conquest, and destruction on the wall of GazaAnd it shall consume her citadels.8 “And I will cut off and destroy the inhabitants from ^aAshdod,And the ruler who holds the scepter, from ^bAshkelon;And I will unleash My power and turn My hand in judgment against Ekron,And the rest of the ^cPhilistines in Gath and the towns dependent on these four Philistine cities shall die,”Says the Lord GOD. 9 Thus says the LORD,“For three transgressions of ^aTyre and for four (multiplied delinquencies)I will not reverse its punishment or revoke My word concerning it,Because they as middlemen deported an entire Jewish population to EdomAnd did not seriously remember their ^bcovenant of brotherhood. 1+@Kin 5:1, 12; 9:12, 1310 “So I will ^asend a fire of war, conquest, and destruction on the wall of Tyre,And it shall consume her citadels.”

13 Thus says the LORD,“For three transgressions of the children of ¹^aAmmon and for four (multiplied delinquencies)I will not reverse its punishment or revoke My word concerning it,Because the Ammonites have ^bripped open the pregnant women of Gilead,That they might ^cenlarge their border.14 “So I will kindle a fire of war, conquest, and destruction on the wall of ^aRabbah in AmmonAnd it shall devour its strongholdsAmid ^bwar cries and shouts of alarm on the day of battle,And a ^ctempest on the day of the whirlwind when the enemy captures the city.15 “Their ^aking shall go into exile,He and his princes together,” says the LORD.

11 This is what the LORD says:“For three offenses of ^aEdom, and for four,I will not revoke its punishment,Because he ^bpursued his brother with the swordAnd stifled his compassion;His anger also ^ctore continually,And he maintained his fury forever.12 “So I will send fire upon ^aTemanAnd it will consume the citadels of Bozrah.”

3 Thus says Yahweh,“For ^athree transgressions of ^bDamascus and for fourI will not turn back its punishmentBecause they threshed Gilead with implements of sharp iron.

4 “So I will send fire upon the house of Hazael,And it will consume the citadels of ^aBen-hadad.5 “I will also ^abreak the gate bar of DamascusAnd cut off the inhabitant from the ¹valley of AvenAnd him who holds the scepter from Beth-eden;So the people of Aram will go into exile to ^bKir,”Says Yahweh.

7 “So I will send fire upon the wall of Gaza,And it will consume her citadels.8 “I will also cut off the inhabitant from ^aAshdodAnd him who holds the scepter from ^bAshkelon;I will even turn My hand against Ekron,And the remnant of the ^cPhilistines will perish,”Says Lord Yahweh.

9 Thus says Yahweh,“For three transgressions of ^aTyre and for fourI will not turn back its punishmentBecause they delivered up the whole community of exiles to EdomAnd did not remember the covenant of ¹^bbrotherhood.

10 “So I will ^asend fire upon the wall of Tyre,And it will consume her citadels.”
