God Is Just

“Call now—is there anyone who will answer you?And to which of the ^aholy ones (angels) will you turn?2 “For ^aanger slays the foolish man,And jealousy kills the simple (naive) .3 “I have seen the ^afoolish taking root and outwardly prospering,But I ^bcursed his dwelling immediately for his destruction was certain.4 “His ^achildren are far from safety and included in their father’s ruin,They are oppressed and crushed in the court of justice in the city’s gate,And there is no ¹one to rescue them.5 “The hungry devour his harvestAnd take it even when it grows among the thorns;The ^atrap opens for his wealth.6 “For ^aaffliction does not come forth from the dust,Nor does trouble spring forth from the ground.7 “For ^aman is born for trouble,As naturally as sparks fly upward.

8 “As for me, I would ^aseek God and inquire of Him,And I would commit my cause to God;9 Who ^adoes great and unsearchable things,Marvelous things without number.10 “He ^agives rain upon the earthAnd sends waters upon the fields,11 So that ^aHe sets on high those who are lowly,And He lifts to safety those who mourn.12 “He ^afrustrates the devices and schemes of the crafty,So that their hands cannot attain success or achieve anything of lasting worth.13 “He ^acatches the so-called wise in their own shrewdness,And the advice of the devious is quickly thwarted. 1+@Cor 3:19, 2014 “In the daytime they ^ameet in darkness,And at noon they grope as in the night.15 “But God saves the innocent from ^athe sword of the mouth of the devious,And ^bthe poor from the hand of the mighty.16 “So the helpless have hope,And ^ainjustice shuts its mouth.

17 “^aBehold, how happy and fortunate is the man whom God reproves,So do not despise or reject the ^bdiscipline of the Almighty subjecting you to trial and suffering.18 “For ^aHe inflicts pain, but He binds up and gives relief;He wounds, but His hands also heal.19 “^aHe will rescue you from six troubles;Even in seven, ^bevil will not touch you.20 “In ^afamine He will redeem you from death,And ^bin war from the power of the sword.21 “You will be ^ahidden from the scourge of the tongue,^bAnd you will not be afraid of destruction when it comes.22 “You will ^alaugh at violence and famine,^bAnd you will not be afraid of the wild beasts of the earth.23 “For you will be in harmony with the stones of the field,And ^athe beasts of the field will be at peace with you.24 “You will know also that your ^atent is secure and at peace,And you will visit your dwelling and fear no loss nor find anything amiss.25 “You will know also that your ^adescendants will be many,And ^byour offspring as the grass of the earth.26 “You will ^acome to your grave in old age,Like the stacking of grain on the threshing floor in its season.27 “Behold this; we have investigated it, and it is true.Hear and heed it, and know for yourself for your own good.”

8 “But as for me, I would ^aseek God,And I would make my plea before God,9 Who ^adoes great and unsearchable things,¹Wonders without number.10 “He ^agives rain on the earth,And sends water on the fields,11 So that ^aHe sets on high those who are lowly,And those who mourn are lifted to safety.12 “He ^afrustrates the schemes of the shrewd,So that their hands cannot attain success.13 “He ^acaptures the wise by their own cleverness,And the advice of the cunning is quickly thwarted.14 “By day they ^ameet with darkness,And grope at noon as in the night.15 “But He saves from ^athe sword of their mouth,And ^bthe poor from the hand of the strong.16 “So the helpless has hope,And ^ainjustice has shut its mouth.

17 “Behold, ^ahappy is the person whom God disciplines,So do not reject the ^bdiscipline of ¹the Almighty.18 “For ^aHe inflicts pain, and ¹gives relief;He wounds, but His hands also heal.19 “In six troubles ^aHe will save you;Even in seven, ^bevil will not touch you.20 “In ^afamine He will redeem you from death,And ^bin war, from the power of the sword.21 “You will be ^ahidden ¹from the scourge of the tongue,^bAnd you will not be afraid of violence when it comes.22 “You will ^alaugh at violence and hunger,^bAnd you will not be afraid of ¹wild animals.23 “For you will be in league with the stones of the field,And ^athe animals of the field will be at peace with you.24 “You will know that your ^atent is secure,For you will visit your home and ¹have nothing missing.25 “You will also know that your ¹^adescendants will be many,And ^byour offspring as the grass of the earth.26 “You will ^acome to the grave at a ripe age,Like the stacking of grain in its season.27 “Behold this; we have investigated it, and so it is.Hear it, and know for yourself.”

The Discipline of the Almighty

8 “But as for me, I would ^aseek God,And I would set my cause before God,9 Who ^adoes great and unsearchable things,¹Wonders without number.10 “He ^agives rain on the earthAnd sends water on the fields outside,11 So that ^aHe sets on high those who are lowly,And those who mourn are lifted to salvation.12 “He ^afrustrates the thoughts of the crafty,So that their hands cannot attain success of sound wisdom.13 “He ^acatches the wise by their own craftiness,And the counsel of the twisted is quickly thwarted.14 “By day they ^ameet with darknessAnd grope at noon as in the night.15 “But He saves from ^athe sword of their mouth,And ^bthe needy from the hand of the strong.16 “So the poor has hope,And ^aunrighteousness must shut its mouth.

17 “Behold, how ^ablessed is the man whom God reproves,So do not reject the ^bdiscipline of the ¹Almighty.18 “For ^aHe inflicts pain and ¹gives relief;He ²wounds, and His hands also heal.19 “¹From six distresses ^aHe will deliver you,Even in seven ^bevil will not touch you.20 “In ^afamine He will redeem you from death,And ^bin war from hands with swords.21 “You will be ^ahidden from the scourge of the tongue,^bAnd you will not be afraid of devastation when it comes.22 “You will ^alaugh at devastation and starvation,^bAnd you will not be afraid of the beasts of the earth.23 “For your covenant will be with the stones of the field,And ^athe beasts of the field will be at peace with you.24 “You will know that your ^atent is at peace,For you will visit your abode and fear no loss.25 “You will know also that your ^aseed will be many,And ^byour offspring as the vegetation of the land.26 “You will ^acome to the grave in full vigor,Like the stacking of grain in its season.27 “Behold this; we have investigated it, and so it is.Hear it, and know for yourself.”
