The Response to God’s Rebuke

“^aCome and let us return in repentance to the LORD,For ^bHe has torn us, but ^cHe will heal us;He has wounded us, but He will ^dbandage us.2 “After two days He will ^arevive us;On the third day He will ^braise us upThat we may live before Him. Is 26:19; Ezek 37:1-103 “So let us ^aknow and become personally acquainted with Him; let us press on to know and understand fully the greatness of the LORD to honor, heed, and deeply cherish Him.His ^bappearing is prepared and is as certain as the dawn,And He will come to us in salvation like the heavy ^crain,Like the spring rain watering the earth.”

The Reply of the LORD

4 O ^aEphraim, what shall I do with you?O Judah, what shall I do with you?For your wavering loyalty and kindness are transient like the ^bmorning cloudAnd like the dew that goes away early.5 Therefore, I have ^ahewn them in pieces by the words of the prophets;I have slain them by the ^bwords of My mouth;My judgments pronounced upon them by the prophets are like the light that shines forth obvious to all.6 For ^aI desire and delight in steadfast loyalty faithfulness in the covenant relationship, ^brather than sacrifice,And in the knowledge of God more than burnt offerings. Matt 9:13; 12:77 But they, ^alike Adam, have ^btransgressed the covenant;There they have ^cdealt treacherously against Me.8 ^aGilead is a city of wrongdoers;It is tracked with ^bbloody footprints.9 And as bands of ^arobbers lie in wait for a man,So a band of priests ^bmurder on the road toward ¹Shechem covering their crimes in that city of refuge;Certainly they have committed ^ccrimes and outrages.10 I have seen a ^ahorrible thing sins of every kind in the house of Israel!Ephraim’s ^bprostitution (idolatry) is there; Israel has defiled itself.11 Also, O Judah, there is a ^aharvest of divine judgment appointed for you,When I ^brestore the fortunes of My people who have been slaves to the misery of sin.

“^aCome, let us return to Yahweh.For ^bHe has torn us, but ^cHe will heal us;He has struck us, but He will ^dbandage us.2 “He will ^amake us alive after two days;He will ^braise us up on the third day,That we may live before Him.3 “So let us ^aknow, let us pursue to know Yahweh.His ^bgoing forth is established as the dawn;And He will come to us like the ^crain,Like the ¹late rain watering the earth.”

4 What shall I do with you, O ^aEphraim?What shall I do with you, O Judah?For your lovingkindness is like a ^bmorning cloudAnd like the dew which goes away early.5 Therefore I have ^ahewn them in pieces by the prophets;I have killed them by the ^bwords of My mouth;And the judgments on you are like the light that goes forth.6 For ^aI delight in lovingkindness ^brather than sacrifice,And in the knowledge of God rather than burnt offerings.7 But ^alike ¹Adam they have ^btrespassed against the covenant;There they have ^cdealt treacherously against Me.8 ^aGilead is a city of workers of iniquity,With a track of ^bblood.9 And as ^araiders wait for a man,So a band of priests ^bmurder on the way to Shechem;Surely they have committed ^clewdness.10 In the house of Israel I have seen an ^aappalling thing;Ephraim’s ^bharlotry is there; Israel has defiled itself.11 Also, O Judah, there is a ^aharvest set for youWhen I ^brestore the fortunes of My people,
